I have a swf that I want to edit.I decompiled it and edited the one value I wanted to change (It was how many items were displayed). Now, I get a few AS I cannot fix, I know enough AS to get by, but this is above my head.I have two errors, they both say: Left side of assignment operator must be variable or property.

As we know whent here is no such variable of null value assignment to a variable or instance flash throws this kind of Error.In one of my Application i need to get more flashVariables, They may or maynot come as FLASHVARS. But when i miss any variable flash thows this error as an alert box. is there any simple solution to avoid this kind of issue
when i use try,Catch statement the issue will not come, But i don't like to write Bunch of try,catch statement for all this kind of variables.
I have got a component within my flash form. I have a button that sends information to PHP (this is working). What I need is checking whether the check box is selected or not, so that if it is my button will go to one place, and if not then it will go to another (which I know will be done with an 'if' statement).
View 4 RepliesI'm a bit newbie to Flash, and I'm experiencing strange problem. I have a simple flash application, which when run in Flash player looks like this
the thing is, when i resize the Flash player window, a black frame becomes visible to the left and top of the stage. is it possible that these black areas start appearing on the right side, and the stage to be fixed on the left? The strange thing is that these black areas are not part of the stage, the (0,0) coordinate is there where white area starts and not in the corner of the window, and that's causing me problems.
My character is spawned in the middle of the screen, and i'm not sure how to make zombies spawn from the left and right side of the screen, and moving towards the middle. My goal is to make the zombies spawn automatically, and the character in the middle is able to shoot them down. I've just started working on AS3, but i know that i'll need to make an array to do this, but not sure how to implement this.

I'm working on Flex component which can be resized using handles on the right and left (that is, if you click and drag the left side, the component will grow to the left, if you click and drag on the right, it will grow to the right).
Right now I am using:

But that makes the right side jump around, and generally looks ugly.
What is the "right" to do this? Is there something fundamental I've gotten wrong?
Edit: The jitter occurs on the right side of the component. When I set this.x, the component moves to the left, the screen redraws, then the width is updated, and the screen redraws again.

View 1 RepliesI'm working on a flash website which is published as a 100% x100% with no scale but I want to add a menu wich has to been shown always at the left of the screen. At home I've got a resolution of 1024x768 but on my work 1920 x 1200. In both cases I like to see the menu in left. Because i like to design some sort of paper strips wich are only visible for like a bit. On a mouseover it will be totally visible. Do I need to add some actionscript with a screensize detection and then some code with _y _x and stuff to place it or do I need to change the settings for the html publish? Let's say you've got a class with a property that gets set to the value of an argument in the constructor, like so:[code]That's not exactly a hassle. But imagine you've got... I don't know, five properties. Ten properties, maybe. Rather then writing out each individual assignment, line by line, isn't there a way to loop through the constructor's arguments and set the value of each corresponding property on the new instance accordingly? I don't think that the ...rest or arguments objects will work, since they only keep an enumerated list of the arguments, not the argument names - I'm thinking something like this would be better:[code]

I have been playing with this for a day and haven't been able to figure out the proper path to load this variable.So I have a main movie, a menu (movie clip) in it, and each menu option loads an external swf in a movie clip instance (called content) in the main movie.Loading the movies works fine.My problem is I want assign a variable that I have declared in a loaded movie in the 'content' instance.

In the following code (thoroughly debugged) the first case (1) in the switch is met and a new instance of BannerSingle is assigned to retVal (the return value). Unfortunately, while the second case (2) is never met, the assignment therein to retVal takes place and I can't compile. When I comment out the assignment to retVal for "case 2:" everything works fine.
I've tried using an if/else instead and I still get the same odd behavior. Also tried a number of solutions involving separate variables, etc.

Way with actionscript to determine the right and left side of a movie clip? I have a row of dynamiclly loaded pictures that load into a movieclip and then have arrows that scroll the photos left and right using an interval and _x +=10. The scroll works great. Only problem is, it just goes on and on and on if you keep pressing the arrow. Is there any way to tell it where the left and right side are and not to let either side go past a certain point.
View 3 RepliesI am having an issue with my project showing up to the left side of the screen when I look at it on the web. how to center the project in the middle of the page. Here is another blunder I am desperate for help with. another project I am working on I screwed up by editing the timeline for EVERYTHING inside the movie clip instead of the timeline. now when I export this to be a mov. file it only plays for like a second. so I fixed that and copy and pasted the timeline from inside the movie to the timeline on my workspace. everything is showing up on the bottom right of the page.

I've got a scrolling image gallery which I have a zoom button that lets the user zoom in on the images... If they click on the stage, the scrolling stops. Now, if they try to zoom in, the image scales from the left side, since the images registration points are on the left side of the movie clip they're loaded into. This causes the images to shift right, but I want it to appear as if its a straight on zoom...
View 3 RepliesI want to make an interactive image scroller. I am making a webshop and I want a flash to scroll through some of the latest products (3 or 4) that I put in myself and animate or whatever, maybe there's a better and easier way. I want this movie to have these products scrolling from right to left by auto with maybe an ease effect, but when you move your mouse pointer over the whole movie I want it to stop, and when it stops I want two arrows appear on the left and right side of the movie which will be clickable and you will be able to scroll through the products with them as well.
It doesn't need to have an external XML connection where you insert scrolling speed and so on. Of course it would be simplier, but without is fine too. I will try to explain in what terms I know of:
-Mouseout/rollout = 3 or 4 products scrolling one by one from the right and ease in to the middle, pause 4 seconds, then scroll out to the left with an ease. Looped.
-Mouseover/rollover = Movie stops and then you can use arrows on both each side and scroll by yourself. But I don't know if I want this only to be available when the product is in the center of the movie, or else it would be kind of weird if the movie stopped when one product was just about to go half-way out or in.
I have published my movie to take up 100% of the width and height of the screen.It takes up the entire height of the screen, but there is about a 10 pixel gap on the left and right side of the movie.

The only problem is that now it takes the x coordinate of the last thumbnail (I think) and goes right to left, meaning that the 1st thumbnail will not be at x=0.How can I get it to start with the first thumbnail is at x=0 and go from left to right?

After the point is converted via contentToGlobal(), the point's x coordinate is drastically incorrect. I've found a way to workaround this by simply wrapping the target component in another HBox like this:

I have 7 icons on the left side (vertically) with two stationary phones on the right side of the movie clip and all of the icons has its own different URLs like differentiator.aspx?point=1 (2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7). If I click one of them, the animated phone appears on the right side, but the problem is how do I display the content of page from each icons on the left side? Its like two onClick events at the same time; one to play the "scene" and one to change the content of the page.
