View 3 RepliesWhen I load an external SWF into my UI SWF using MovieClipLoader.loadClip(), does the external SWF get cached?
Therefore, if the user tries to reload a SWF that had been previously loaded, the SWF will load from the local HDD instead of the website, right?
In my case, caching of content is important to reduce bandwidth usage.
im sure other ppl have been faced with this dilemma. say that you are attaching an event listener to an object which obviously if revoked, will call a function. now how do you send additional params with listeners?so you get something like:
Code:
public function eventHandler(e:Event, additionalParam:*){}
i have a solution for this and that is to attach it to the caller so it could be accessed with e.target.variable but i dont know if this is the way to go.
hboxvar.addEventListener("mouseDown",dosomething(3 43));
hboxvar.addEventListener("mouseDown",dosomething(1 23));
hboxvar.addEventListener("mouseDown",dosomething(1 2342));
public function dosomething( somenumber:Number ):void {
//do something here
}
I try to do above function but I need to pass variable from hboxvar but not from inside function suggested by macromedia.
any one frustated with this way of passing multiple parameter which depends on what to pass in flex 2 using addEventListener ?

Passing additional parameters to function listeners You can pass additional parameters to function listeners depending on how you add the listeners. If you add a listener with the addEventListener() method, you cannot pass any additional parameters to the listener function, and that listener function can only declare a single argument, the Event object (or one of its subclasses).
I have already created a custom mouse event which seems to work fine. It is simply a mouse event which passes an additional sound object. The problem is I am passing this event to another class which checks for collision of a movie clip with another and if true it adds the sound to an array. What I think is happening is a type conversion problem between my customEvent and the MouseEvent. [code]...
View 3 RepliesI'm currently trying to figure out a way for a user to select their own variety of SWF files from a list for customization. This data is saved in a database and when the SWF is loaded it grabs an XML page which tells the SWF container which clips to load. My co-worker found something useful that grabs the location of the SWF and loads it in the container using the MovieClipLoader's loadClip() function. So that works fine as it grabs each little file, it plays, and then another plays right after.
However, some of the files have custom data I would like to place inside the child SWF files. There are variables saved in the files and if I load it up as movie01.swf?param1=TEST it works fine. However if I grab that as the location of the file and use the loadClip() function the query string parameters are not loaded. Here are the simple functions used to call the SWF file into the container:

I created a MovieClipLoader a few days ago that is reuseable. I will be using the same preloader graphics when I am loading in external swf on my stage. My MovieClipLoader functions fine with jpegs and smaller sized swf files. But whenever I load a larger sizes swf it loads the movie before it has fully downloaded in simulation mode. The odd part is that everything works fine with smaller swf files but not larger ones . I have tested a few movies and that seems to be the common theme.
In the example below main.swf is the clip I am loading into "mcBackground".

Is there a way to get a method's parameters from outside the method? I know that there's an "arguments" property but it's only accessable from within the method. I'm working on a RPC system and need to store the method parameter types in a hash table for easy access later on.
View 1 RepliesI have used loadClip, and loadMovie a ton of times and have never ran into this problem, so I am hoping someone here can provide me some insight on how to fix this.
I am using loadClip() to load up external SWF's for a portfolio, everything is functioning perfectly, it preloads, it gets all the values from the clips properly, but when the movie loads up the animations from the SWF exceed (or go outside of, and are still visible) the published size. So instead of seeing what I normally see when I publish the SWF, I see everything that happens, even stuff that is meant to appear "off screen", or in the case of the SWF, outside the published size. As far as how I am going about loading up the SWF's, I am just using an empty movieclip and loading them into there.
I've been attempting to load an external .swf within a parent .swf. The problem is that the external .swf requires additional variables to pull it's content from a database. This code of course works just fine if the .swf doesn't contain any additional variables or if it's requesting an image.
Is it possible to do this using the GET method, or is there an alternate method while using Loader()?
parent.php as3:
ActionScript Code:
var loadit = new Loader();
addChild(loadit);
loadit.load(new URLRequest("gallery.swf?xmlUrl=http://localhost/gallery/api/rest/get_gallery/1/json"));
The external .swf is obviously gallery.swf while the variable that is necessary for it to function is [URL]
trying to add additional load movie scripts to the following code:[code]Basically, I want each person's mp3 to load into another MC along with the randomly selected home .swf.script: root. audioplayerclip.loadmovie("mp3_okai.swf")and then the two others as well.How would I insert this to make the code work?I tried pasting in this code after each "case", but only the home .swf's would load- not the mp3.I guess my syntax is incorrect.
View 4 RepliesI've made a component to control the movieclip in the main timeline. The instance name of that movie clip passed as a parameter to the component. That is working fine in that file. But when that file loads into another SWF file, that containes a movieclip to hold the file that is being externally loaded, the methods are not working in that componentThis is the code of the component.
#initclip
function visiblerClass() {
this.what = this.insofitem;

I have a nested blank clip (_root.banner.holder.picture) and want to load a picture into it, using the following code in the _root.No matter what I do, I can't get it to work

_root.myobject = "picture1";
loadpic = _root.myobject+".jpg";

a simple case of loading images using MovieClipLoader
function thumbnails_fn(k) {
thumbnail_mc.createEmptyMovieClip("t"+k, thumbnail_mc.getNextHighestDepth());
tlistener = new Object();

note the output the first loadclip is executed even though the if works very strange?and no default .swf file is loaded or is loaded but not set as it should see onLoadIni function?
I run a FMS 3.5 Server and I want to add additional FMS Servers and load balance the traffic. The plan is to use a script for the developer version of FMS that forwards two incoming FME streams to the different servers, so each FMS Server has all streams. Is there a script for this? In addition there is a need for a script that somehow redirects the users to the server with the lowest users/bandwidth in use.
View 1 RepliesI have a Flex application that automatically loads the SWF and it's contents and displays the default progress bar like in all Flex apps. Currently I have a class in the application using a Loader instance to load an external bitmap to be added to the stage/canvas. I'd like to handle the loading of this bitmap in the Flex default preloader and get rid of the Loader instance entirely.
View 1 RepliesAt work, I am trying to load JPGs externally using AS2 loadMovie() and loadClip() and the photos take too long to display. My boss does not want a preloader, so the photos just need to display on our website immediately.
Some of the photos are between 75K and 150K and photos do not display in order. They come in at different times. Because of this, my boss is claiming that I did not complete the pages although they are done and I am just loading the photos from outside the SWF.
I just posted a message asking how to call a method from the constructor which has the parameters e: Event. I mistakenly ticked that post as answered when in reality it isnt. I was told I could add = null in the parameter of the function to make it work, like this:

i want to call a function on a soap-webservice using actionscript 3.the function has multiple parameters each of different type (int string).

I am trying to use external xml to set cue point times (for video), titles, and other parameters. I have everything set up, except getting the proper data from the xml file to set the parameters for my cue points. I am researching hard and learning quickly
View 2 RepliesI need to load a SWF depending on a parameter in the URL ... how do I do in order to make flash recognize the RUL parameters? For example, I want that: [URL] load the index.php with an animation for utah, [URL] load the index.php with an animation for texas, and so on... how do i achieve this?
View 3 RepliesI am using php to read a file (specified by a cookie on the users machine) with the function readfile(). The file I am reading is an actionscript 3 flash file that depends on a configuration file appended to the url to function properly. Ex: [URL]. When I use readfile - the headers are set properly and the swf is returned to the browser which then runs it. I have discovered that using this method the config file (CONFIG_URL) has to be appended to the php file's url to be read properly by the swf - as the swf considers the path to the php file it's own. This is fine when these are the only two elements involved - but when loading the php>read(swf) combination into another swf - the 'read' swf returns a url that is null (using this.root.loaderInfo.url) and therefore fails to execute properly as there is no config file (CONFIG_URL). How can I load in a swf file from a php page (using readfile, fopen, whatever) and pass in $get parameters?
View 1 RepliesI'm trying to have Flash execute a file, and I can get FSCOMMAND to work. Sort of. While I can use it to run a single batch file, what I really need to do is to pass a parameter from within Flash to the item being executed. I'm currently using Flash to allow a user to select some items, and I need to pass that selection out of it in order to kick off some other processes (Flash is basically just my GUI interface right now until I learn more about how to do things in it).
I don't care if it's a batch file or JavaScript or anything that's not uber complex (so no .NET or C++). I just need to find something that we can run internally for our company (either from an .HTML or a .EXE file output from Flash - not too picky there either).
is ist still possible to use external parameters in defining an swf object in html?

View 1 RepliesHow can I set the parameters of a smaller mc, to be placed on top of a larger mc, and not have the active ingredients (such as some random floating objects) roam outside of the smaller mc? The problem I am having at the moment, is my objects will not stay inside the smaller mc, but instead, roam all over the larger mc below it. So I'm thinking I need to set up some solid parameters for the smaller mc. I was up late, late last night on all sorts of actionscript boards, and still haven't found the answer. I am using flash 5, and the small mc is, once again, on TOP of a larger mc.
View 3 RepliesI'm currently trying to use the FLVPlayback component and pass a source FLV that's living on a cloudfront webserver. The problem is that the cloudfront requires authentication in the form of query strings in the source FLV. For example:[code]It adds on "&FLVPlaybackVersion= 2.1" to the end.I saw a different article that said I should add a dummy variable at the end like "&dummy=.flv" because I was told that Flash is basically looking for an .flv extension at the end and you can trick it, but it doesn't work because they add on additional code.
View 9 RepliesI have a preloader which loads a swf file, and once it's fully loaded it, it calls a function in it.
However, it doesn't seem to work. I get an error basically saying the function doesn't exist. [code]...
