I have an issue where removechild won't infact remove a child. I think its something to do with my dropTarget.parent issues. The concept of the code is that you drag a source onto a destination. When you drop the source onto the destination you will get a text field that says "Hello" or "Goodbye". The objective i want to achive is that once i drop a source onto the destination, removechild will remove any previouse textfields added. This is proving difficult.

I have 3 different functions for my preloader. I have an Event.OPEN, ProgressEvent.PROGRESS, and an Event.COMPLETE. In the event.OPEN function, I create a new variable that is data typed to the class name of my preloader that I set in it's property dialogue box. This is just a simple circle animation.[code]...

I have a SimpleButton on the stage, and in the click event for it, I remove it using removeChild(). When re-adding the button, it gets re-added in it's "over" state, not the "up" state as expected.
I'm pretty sure it's a bug, so I've filed a JIRA:[URL]..What I've tried: sing visible = false instead works, but I'd prefer to remove it off the stage altogether as the game I'm working on can have a lot of popups/screens. Firing the mouse_out event manually - doesn't work, and in any case, the mouse_out event fires as expected (perhaps before resetting to the up state, it makes a check to see if it's added to the stage, finds out it's not, then quits early)Resetting the stage focus - I thought it was a problem with the stage focus, as you were losing focus when the button was hidden, but resetting it didn't fix it.I could temporarily swap the over and up state when it's hidden, but that seems like an ugly fix.

I got a Parent Sprite, let's name it SpriteP, which holds inside it two other Sprites. Sprite1 and Sprite2.[code]Sprite2 is a rectangle. When I rotate it, of course, the height of its parent, SpriteP, GROWS. But I would expect that height to go back to what it should be when I'm removing Sprite2!And it does! If I remove Sprite2 while NOT being rotated, the height of the parent drops back to normal, 200.

I got a Parent Sprite, let's name it SpriteP, which holds inside it two other Sprites. Sprite1 and Sprite2.
When Sprite2 is NOT rotated:
Code:
trace(SpriteP.width + ' ' + SpriteP.height); //100 250.
SpriteP.removeChild(Sprite2)
trace(SpriteP.width + ' ' + SpriteP.height); //100 200. -> works, 200 is good.
When Sprite2 is rotated at 90:

And it does! If I remove Sprite2 while NOT being rotated, the height of the parent drops back to normal, 200. But if I rotate Sprite2, the Parent won't update its bounds.

I am trying to load various swfs into a main swf. The initial swf loads in by default, the others load when buttons are clicked. All of the buttons also call a lengthy function called loadpic which appears later in the code - Currently the buttons load in the swfs as required, however the swfs are always behind the initial default swf. Is there a way to add removeChild to the buttons? I have tried creating seperate functions for each button and added the line removeChild(); however doing that means I would also have to repeat all of the later functions as well. If I add removeChild(); without placing it in a function the default swf doesn't show at all.

I am creating a selection of checkboxes that are supplied from XML. These checkboxes are to provide additional details to a background picture and therefore they each have a unique name and an eventlistener to add the extra details to the background picture. Depending on other buttons clicked on the stage, the list of checkboxes could change for the same background picture. I have a selection of 5 different background pictures all of which have a different list of checkboxes. I therefore want to load the checkboxes dynamically. When a button is clicked to change the background picture, I want to remove all the checkboxes associated with that picture and display a new set for the new picture.

I have a DisplayObject, called myView nested in a DisplayObjectContainer called myContainer. myView is the only child of myContainer.I add a REMOVED_FROM_STAGE EventListener to myView, and call myContainer.removeChild(myView). The onRemovedFromStage Event fires for myView when it's removed from the stage, HOWEVER, myContainer still has a reference to it as a child on its display list! myContainer numChildren is still 1, and that child is still registered as myView!!! what circumstances this could be happening? I realize that there may be a reference to it somewhere causing this strangeness, but if the REMOVED_FROM_STAGE event has fired, shouldn't it follow that myView has been removed from myContainer?

I'm working on a game where I'm adding a symbol (an enemy unit) from the Library via addChild() to an instance on the Stage. The symbol has Linkage/Class enabled so I can stick stat variables directly on it for easy access.The problem is that I want to use the same name for enemies (like en0, en1) in different areas, but if I try to removeChild(), I get Error 1067: Implicit coercion of type Class to type DisplayObject.

I am making a simple xml gallery that loads in images into a movie clip that looks like a Polaroid. So, the idea is that flash will see how many image need to me imported. Then in the for loop it will add child the Polaroid mc (which has been exported for actionscript and the class named "Polaroid"). The inside that Polaroid mc there is an empty mc called "polimageHolder_mc" that I want to load the xml loaded image into. I keep getting this error "TypeError: Error #1010: A term is undefined and has no properties", when I use the code below. It makes sense to me but my syntax is obviously incorrect. [code]...

So when you win my game I add a movieclip that will let you enter your name through a text input component. Unfortunately, I'm calling it wrong.
I'm getting an undefined property error because it's out of the youWon function, right? You'd think I'd understand this concept eventually!

public class ItemView extends MovieClip {
private var _title:TextField;
private var _extra:MovieClip;
[Code]....
When I create an instance of ItemView and add it to the stage, "Title" displays but the blue square does not. However, if I make the graphics calls on this instead of _extra, I do see the blue square. This tells me that _extra itself is not displaying properly, but I can't figure out why. Is there some special procedure for adding one MovieClip to another?

I have 4 functions called by their own buttons. Each function calls a movie clip from the library with addChild. When I click on one of these 4 functions I want it to remove the added children if any of the other functions had been clicked prior. Problem is, removeChild at the start of each function results in errors if a child had never been called yet. It's trying to remove something that isn't there. - So I tried making a 'flag:number = 0' for each of the 4 functions. Each function begins with settings its flag to '1' I put a for loop at the beginning of each function saying IF any of the flags are = to 1, then remove the children. I don't see why that should not work, I think the error lies in my array or my for loop if statement as I still don't fully understand them. So I will just post the code relating to the array and loop:

I know how to remove duplicates from an array, but what I'm trying to do is prevent an item from ever being added to an array in the first place if it already exists. I'm pulling in data from an xml feed in a loop, and I thought that searching for that values index would work, but no matter what, the index is always -1. Here's my code:
[Code]...
Maybe I'm misunderstanding the indexOf function, but I thought it was supposed to return -1 if a value did not exist in an array. What am I doing wrong?

if you view my project you will see that it is a drag and drop application. You will also see two buttons at the bottom (I plan on adding more), when you click on a box it will add more objects to the menu. Heres where my question comes in, the box then says remove on it, I want the items that were added by clicking on the box to be removed as well as items added to the stage when you click on that same box again, how do I do this?

I'm working on building a gallery, but I've run into a slight snag. The full-size images are not all the same size, so they will overlap when loaded. In the showPicture function, is there a way for it to check to make sure there isn't a full-size image already loaded, and if there is, to remove it before adding the new one?

Is it possible to check, using Javascript and without altering the ActionScript code at all, if a child has been added to the stage? I have in mind something like being able to call GetChildByName in Javascript, and if the child exists, call another javascript function.

I have created a button class which has graphical elements. In future I might want to add this as a child to other things so what I would like to know is, firstly, can I get the details of the parent object from the child and, probably more importantly, is there an event that tells me when my button has been added as a child so that I can resize it?
