CS3 Drag Handles Disappearing Resizing Text?

I'm animating some text, I enlarge it by using free transform tool and drag the handles until my text covers the screen. Problem: the text is so large that the left and right drag handles disappear from the stage, I can only resize using the middle handles and this is not constraining my text the way I want it.

The app allows the user to drag images from a libray onto a grid and position the elements within the grid. The user can also drag textfields which can be edited and resized.The grid needs to have some sort of snap-to, to make it easier for the user to line up the elements. And then I need to create resize handles around both the editable text fields and the other mc's. Has anyone seen a tutorial or can anyone help me with?
1. Drag and drop with a snap to grid
2. Resize handles for mc's, and inparticular textfields
In the end, I need to be able to track all of the x and y's of the elements on stage and then be able to rebuild their layout when it is loaded in a subsequent session. I'm sure this is going to be difficult.

I would like to make an item renderer that can be resized by the user the idea behind that is I am making a canvas which users can layout reports on and in that I would like them to be able to rezise items.

*Using Flash CS5 professional (AS3)*
I'm currently working on a LARGE flash presentation broken up into many small flash movies. the files play fine in the timeline, but SOMETIMES when publishing as .swf, the text is not visible, but all the other objects and tweens play as normal. My co-worker is also having this same issue, but we can not figure out why. It seems random and does not happen with all of the files. We are copying and pasting symbols from file to file. i don't think that is the issue, though. i wonder if anyone else is experiencing this or knows why. causing LOTS of extra time spent remaking presentations.

I'm working on an interactive poetry project. I have 49 textfields displayed in a 7x7 grid. The properties are stored in an array. Here is the code for that. For the purposes of demonstration I place the character "S" as text in each field. This code works as intended.

The problem occurs when I want to change the text. When it's triggered the text simply disappears. I have no idea why and I'm running out of ideas. I've tried without the embedded font but to no avail. Changing other text properties like instances[j].x works but whenever I change the text I lose it.

I am creating a map that has pop ups with country information. When a country is clicked, a box pops up with the country name, an overview of the area and a link. All the text is pulled in from an external XML doc. My problem is that the link only shows up on the first box (as soon as it clicks, it wont appear in other countries profiles).I don't receive any errors and the links work fine, just as long as they are the first to be clicked.

I'm having issues with dynamic text disappearing under a specific circumstance. When the playhead enters the Photos frame the code below is executed. This code sets the text value of the linkTEXT textfield and adds a bitmap to the linkTHUMB mc. The code runs perfectly and everything is populated most of the time.
The exception... The website has 4 frames which it can navigate to (home, photos, order, contact). If I stay within the first three, each time I navigate to Photos the textfields and bitmaps will be populated and display correctly. However, if I navigate to the Contact page, either before or after I've already visited the Photos page, only the bitmaps will display.
Strangely enough, the textfields still trace their proper values. It also appears as if their parent movieclips are still in the display list since I get the hand cursor when I mouse over their x+y coordinates. If I trace the parent's numChildren property I can see the textfield is still a child.
So where is the text going, or why does it suddenly disappear? If the textfield is still there and it's on stage in the display list why isn't the text being displayed?

I have a linked movieclip in my library that contains a dynamic text field. I edit this text via my external class but when I tween my MC, the text just disappears !!

I have a static textfield using Myriad Pro bold font that, when set to STATIC TEXT works absolutely fine, in the correct font. If I set it to DYNAMIC TEXT and test the SWF, the text shows up as a system font; not Myriad Pro If I set it to EMBED CHARACTERS the text doesn't show up at all on ANY system, whether the font is installed or not.
I have tried adding the font to the Library and using that "Family" for Properties>Character in my dynamic text box, but get the same results as when I don't set that to EMBED CHARACTGERS. I've tried selecting the font for the textfield as both the standard OS Font, as well as the one with the Asterisk next to it, but get the same results both ways. The library font is set to "export for actionscript" and "on frame 1". I don't think it's an issue with the font not being available, as I'm able to see it when setting textfield to STATIC type, and I use the font in other CS4 products (Photoshop, etc.).

I have a .f4v on a layer using the FLVPlayback command. On top of that I have a dynamic text layer. It plays fine in a browser or at the exported resolution. When I use the command ("fullscreen", "true") or when I open the .swf and go full screen using CTRL-F the text disappears. I have removed the video and put the text on a solid background layer to determine it is the video causing this. I have also tried to convert the .f4v to a .flv and embed it in a .swf in multiple manners but the end result is always the same as the text disappearing.

Ok, so i have this problem with text dissapearing if i use one font, it shows in one textbox, but the other ones are odd, they either show 0 or 1, or the first letter only, or nothing at all. What's the problem?In the beggining i tried to ignore the problem by changing the font or the font style, but now, it's becoming to ugly if i use too many different fonts.

The problem is: When I press my buttons twice, the text in the scroller disappears.Everything is set so that It shouldnt be possible to press the same button twice though.The situation in short is as follows. I have 4 scenes and 4 buttons, every button linking to respectively another scene / page. The buttons all are in movieclips. I have 4 different movieclips all containing all buttons. For the page movieclip the-button in the movieclip getsœswitched o by ungrouping it and so on, and so on.On every scene I put the movieclip, with the correct button switched of, on top, with thenction. The other movieclips are made invisible by the visible = true˜delete this.onEnterFrame; function.Im not a develloper but a graphic designer. Dont know much about AS2. I bought the photoslider and textscroller on FlashDen and thought d finnish of this project pretty quickly, but I thinking m almost there" for already many hours now.

As part of my flash design, I want to have some tweening text. At the beginning of the tween, the height of the text needs to be distorted ('too tall'), and at the end of the tween, the text will have settled into its correct height. However, when I try to scale the text in the first keyframe of the tween, the font size changes along with the text field height. Normally, I could just make the text into an image, but this needs to be a dynamic text field. Is there no way to scale the height of the text field and distorting the text height without changing the font size?

For instance just some static text and also a graphic i've copied three times.. two show up but the third doesn't? really annoying help!

i'm making a flash movie that's going to load some text from a text file. i don't know how long each of the variables within the text file will be though, so i need to resize the text box that they are going to be displayed it. is there anyway that i can do this so that all of the text is displayed and not cut off by the text box being too small

I have a dynamically created textField full of text, placed in a sprite that resizes (actually it's part of a nested set of sprites that resize when the browser window is resized). As I'm resizing the window, I notice that the text does not resize smoothly, but kind of steps or jumps (just a tiny bit) between sizes - as if Flash(player) is trying to lock to pixels - perhaps to improve readability.
Sometimes it ends up that the end characters in lines actually fall outside the text box, and so get cut off.This also happens sometimes if the user's screen size just happens to be the right size to start with (the site is full screen).Relevant parameters may include:
multiline = true
wordWrap = true
autoSize = TextFieldAutoSize.LEFT

Can't think of any reason you'd _want_ this to happen. The resizing to pixels makes sense, if that's what's happening, but FP should do it so the text stays within the bounds of the text box.

I am dynamically loading text into a text area. I want the text area to have set dimensions, but the text itself to resize in order to fill up the whole text area container.For example a short line of text would be made a bigger size than a large line of text but each would perfectly (or near perfectly ) fill up the same X by Y sized text area.I have seen a lot of posts about resizing the text area to comply with text, but I want to do the opposite - resize text to comply with text area.

Ok, got a problem that's driving me up the wall. I have 3 objects: tab, tabShadow, (both movieClips) and menuText (a dynamic text field), all of which are themselves contained in a movieClip. What I'm trying to do is have tab & tabShadow resize based on how big the dynamic text field (menuText) is, and then align everything. The ultimate idea is to create a dynamic menu based on XML.
The problem though is that a) the textfield won't resize even if the amount of text fed it is too big, and b) because of (a), the movieClips won't resize based on the textfield. I also can't figure out a good way to align them (just making the ._x / ._y values equal puts the textfield way outside the other movieClips).
Here's the actionscript code, and I've attached a copy of the .fla (done is CS4, but saved in CS3 mode) just in case it's a matter of the centerpoint being off or something. This is all in the container movieClip.

I am not simply trying to contain things and have the container resize without the contents resizing. I would just use a simple MovieClip for that.. My main focus is on the use of BitmapFill. I'm trying to make a repeating background image for a container; thus far I'm able to draw my BitmapFill sprite to the size I want. (Which is the stage's height) but when the stage is resized, I want to re-size my container but have my containers BitmapFill crop or add more as the window is resized bigger or smaller. Allow me to illustrate what I mean:
I've got a simple rectangle sprite that fills with a bitmap from the library and a simple resize handler function that detects when the window has been resized.what I would like to do is have my rectangle resize to the height of the stage.stageHeight maintaining its bitmap fill, but not resizing the bitmap fill or any children within the sprite.
From what I've read, this is a little tricky because the sprite resizes in relation to what it contains.. or.. something like that.. I really don't know any more.. I saw one example where a person extended the sprite class but I don't know why or how..
in my library there is an image called 'pattern' and my code looks like this:

I'm loading a few pngs/jpgs externally so they can be swapped out occasionally, and the issue I'm running into is when they are shrunk they become fairly choppy. Is there a way to have flash re-render them, or do something to smooth the resizing as opposed to going in and resizing every file manually myself?

I have watched movies of people using the motion editor, I have read books, I have even consulted the cursory help that Adobe offers. Nothing I do generates Bezier handles that i can see, although the motion lines show evidence of bezier-liek modification. What happens seems largely random.
Just as random is the scatter of keyframes. Put a symbol on the stage. Add a motion tween, Move it to a new location: fine, it works. Bend the path, and look in motion editor: suddeenly, dozens fo keyframes. Prod them with the mouse and they distrot, but with no obvios controls. Shift moves them, Cntl deletes them, Alt does god knows what, but evokes the path edit tool from Photoshop.
The documentation on this package is extremely poor. However, self-teaching is impossible as the system is not at all intuitive. If you don't know that you are supposed to toss salt over your left shoulder whilst pushing Alt-Scroll Lock, you don't see what tehbooks describe. But they always leave out that little detail. Adobe's videos are of the same style - too smallto seeproperly, all done at a tremendous pace by a laconic individual with the teaching capabilities of a firing squad.
So: please, ayone, how doo you get the Bezier handles to appear? Where does one find a decent set of documentation? Why does Flash help keep referring to Illustrator?

I have a Flex application which references a separate MXML file as a template for a custom component. I create instances of the component dynamically several times in my program, but I need to get a handle that will allow me to modify that instance of the component as desired. I pass specific information to this component on instantiation using bindable public variables in the component's MXML file. I add it to my main program using addChild().
I want to update the component's progressbar as necessary and I want to remove it from the box to which I addChild'd it. What's the easiest/best way to get a variable that will give me predictable access to each component so I can easily manipulate the components as necessary? Some research suggests creationComplete, but I decided it was faster to just ask than to go through lots of different experiments and come up blank.
