I am dynamically loading text into a text area. I want the text area to have set dimensions, but the text itself to resize in order to fill up the whole text area container.For example a short line of text would be made a bigger size than a large line of text but each would perfectly (or near perfectly ) fill up the same X by Y sized text area.I have seen a lot of posts about resizing the text area to comply with text, but I want to do the opposite - resize text to comply with text area.
I'm trying to display some simple information in an Alert (I'd rather not use an alert, but I need a fast n' simple solution for a project that's got to be out the door asap)
how large I make the alert, my information never stretches out, and ends up being clipped.
I can actually scroll through the text with the mousewheel, but that's no good.
The image says it all. I can't imagine Alert just doesn't handle this.

Code:
var myAlert:Alert = Alert.show("The package you have selected includes a feature(s) you've already selected. We have removed the individual features for you."); myAlert.height = 150*2; myAlert.width = 350*2;
I've got a little problem with BitmapFill, I'm trying to use a sprite as a container for various things and i would like it to have a filled pattern background. my problem is that i want it to resize the sprite to the height of the window but not have the background fill resize, and add more / crop as the window size is changed. to illustrate what i mean, please view the diagram attached to this post .
I have an image in my library called 'pattern' and my code is as follows:
I was laying out my Flex components using mxml and had them working correctly. But then I wanted to switch them over to Actionscript because I wanted them to extend a base component that provides default functionality.
I've go the code working except that my components that used to fill the entire space using width="100%" and height="100%" appear to display just using the default sizes. Do you know How I can get them to take up the entire space again?
Here is a test component I am playing with that exhibits the problem.
Im trying to create a layout in flex using mxml, the layout contains a Canvas component and a Box. The layout should always be such that the Box sits at the bottom edge of the application and has a fixed height, whereas the Canvas fills the remaining stage area and does not overlap with the Box. My MXML is as follows;
I am beginner in flash and I started to learn flash c4 (with video lessons in my language but from flash 8! but it is not problem now about drawing than only about code in actionscript). I have now problem in using of Paint Bucket Tool in flash cs4. I made a ship, I made a whole document/white page for drawing in rectangle tool (frame for picture), and I made to lines which will be like a hill. it is for background, behind the ship. but when I want to color this background, to be green for example, my Pain Bucket Tool don't want to color ONLY place behind the ship and under mentioned "hill lines", than Paint Tool color whole document. therefore I can't make a hill because I get everything colored in green.
I tried all option about closing of gaps. how can I color only wanted places in picture and not whole picture? "hill" is not strait line so I don't know how to select hill space. of course, after it I will have to repeat process to color space above "hill lines", it will be blue like sky. and just to say that "2 hill lines" are from left to right side of document, there is no hole, it is closed line.
I have a Flash/Flex object (Flashlight-VNC), which I would like to dynamically resize to fit the entire window after pressing a button in the Flex app. This would preferably happen without restarting the Flex app (and therefore the VNC session). I would just use the built-in Flash fullscreen mode, however Adobe's somewhat silly security restrictions prevent keyboard input while in fullscreen mode.
How exactly can I do this? I'm already using SWFObject to embed the SWF, if that helps. I am open to any solution utilizing ActionScript, JavaScript, or both, however I am not all too familiar with ActionScript or Flex, and the AS-based solutions I have found involve extending a "Sprite" object to add resize functionality, which Flashlight-VNC does not seem to use.
I have an image that doesn't fill the <mx:Image> tag because it's not the exact dimensions (it is too short) and I have maintainAspectRatio set to true:
The <mx:Image> tag has a fixed width and height (it's 100% of the tile size--this is in an ItemRenderer). How do I get the image to sit on the bottom of the <mx:Image> tag?
Alright so lets say I have a number of movieclips or text fields or something with instance names test1, test2, test3 and so forth. Now say I want to fill these text fields with text that I have in an array and I want to do this with a loop, how do I do this? What I'm really asking is if there is a way to use a variable in an instance name if you catch my drift.
I am new to flash, trying to do some animation character. I have 2 queries
1. What is lock fill; whenever I am trying to fill a color, it shows lock fill....
2. If I am creating a non regular figure like say with pencil, if I draw some part of it & do other part by later; these will be assumed different objects & I am not able to fill the whole figure with a selected color.
As part of my flash design, I want to have some tweening text. At the beginning of the tween, the height of the text needs to be distorted ('too tall'), and at the end of the tween, the text will have settled into its correct height. However, when I try to scale the text in the first keyframe of the tween, the font size changes along with the text field height. Normally, I could just make the text into an image, but this needs to be a dynamic text field. Is there no way to scale the height of the text field and distorting the text height without changing the font size?
I'm looking for an AS3 version that dynamically populates this shape and allows for difference in font size to give it some more variety and flavour. I've got some examples of tag clouds but they don't accept a shape as its outer bounds and I've found some that allow for a shape but don't account for dynamic resizing of the text. Even a nudge in the right direction would be all I need and I can go from there.
I have a MC, MC1, with 3 dynamic fields: D1, D2 and D3; And I have 3 variables: V1, V2 and V3. I need to fill D1, D2 and D3 with V1, V2 and V3 values. But when a Vn value is empty I need to hide Dn. When I mean hide I really mean to not have nothing there and not just an empty space.
These shapes are pretty complex (i.e. they're not square, see image below).
So far, I place textfields manually on the stage and populate them one by one with strings (names) stored in an array. (The textfields are also in an array).
The example below is very simple and I will probably have to setup a good few hundred textfields in the final project.
Would anyone know of a way of populating these textfields dynamically according to an underlying shape?
Or maybe a different approach altogether?
I was thinking collision detection might be an idea but not sure where to start.
PS: I cannot simply use a mask over the chunk of text as each character shall be visible within the shape.
create a random name selector for the classroom. It works great but it doesn't like a space between two words. So I can't copy and paste a list with name and surname. It comes out with nonsense characters in the space.frame 1
stop(); var name = new Array(); var colour = new Array();
i have a problem with the line space flash creates when a dynamic text is loaded in a dynamic text field on the stage i put a dynamic textFild with istance name "profile_text". then im loadin in it a text. my text is written in the Notepad like this
[Code]...
i already set a Textformat to my dynamic text with i tryied to play with the "Leading".. but i think it something dealing with paragraph. how i can decrease spacing between paragraphs??
I'm building a small scroll component for a text box, which loads text dynamically from an xml file. I've got it working fine, apart from the fact that if the text isn't long enough to fill the text box, then the scrollbar still shows up - I don't want it too! Is there any tips / hints or even a snippet of code that someone can offer? Basically I need the scroller to only show if the text is bigger / longer than the height of the text box.
I am struggling to find a way to animate a fill of text in Flash CS4. The concept I am looking for is that over a time period have the color rise from the bottom to the top. My initial attempt was to have 2 objects, one filled with the color and the other filled with white. I was hoping to just adjust the borders of the object or text to have it disappear, but that just reshapes the object, not cropping it. If you know how to crop into objects and reveal the object beneath, let me know.
I am very new to Flash so hopefully it is a simple answer, but I am not seeing it yet.
I'm building a site in actionscript 3. I created a grid with Squares where the text is cut out so the background can be shown through. Right now I'm doing this by loading in hundreds of png's in via XML, but this causes a significant increase in size of the site.
I was wondering if it was possible to cutout the text like you would normally do in flash by breaking apart the text and then converting them to fills so they can be removed from the fill. I am now looking for a way to do this in actionscript, to save space and time.I want to create a fill where the text is cut out in actionscript 3.
I made a simpel textFiled with some text and a border. Does anyone knows how to get rid of the extra space betweenthe text and the border of the textField? I'm goning crazy withthis.I made the width of the textFiled the width of the text andthe height of the textField the height of the text. But because ofthe extra space the text will not show as I wanted to be.
I've seen that it's possible to format a specific bit of text in a text field with:setTextFormat(format:TextFormat, beginIndex:int = -1, endIndex:int = -1):void
I need to format a section of text by applying a texture to the rectangular fill space around the letters. (Imagine in Microsoft Word that you've written a short sentence and you highlight it. Then you fill the text background with a colour. Then imagine that that colour is a single repeating texture. That's what I'm trying to achieve.) Note that the text field must be multiline, and I'm not looking to fill the whole rectangular text field area. The applied texture needs to fit to each character. Is this possible in Actionscript? Would I need to use some kind of HTML or CSS formatting? Is it possible at all? If it is possible, is it possible to change the size of the fill area around the text?
I'm trying to incorporate a "Send me a message" type of deal into my flash form on CS5.. After much research, I cannot find example code to send an email with the data from the "Name, E-mail, and Message" buttons.
i am a newbie flash designer. a client has asked me to make modifications in a flash file used on his website. it is flash 8 actionscriptfile which i decompiled using sothink decompiler 4.5 build 90120 to '~divisions original.fla'. the xml folder resides in the same folder as ~divisions original.fla. it contains divisions.xml.i discovered a problem - if you view 'divisions.swf' - when you click on 'retail visual solutions'and scroll to the bottom, you can see that there is no space after the text. the end of the text aligns with the end of the scrollbar. but when you click on eyesite, and scroll to the bottom, you can see that there is space after the text. the end of the text does not align with the end of the scrollbar.
my additional questions are:has the creator of the swf file used some unique scrollbar code or is this scrollbar provided in flash itself. in this case, i can read a tutorial to understand it better.i have given 'is correct - no space at bottom of text.jpg' and 'is incorrect - space at bottom of text.jpg' to further explain my query.
I have a problem with multiple listeners. Basically I have a box which displays some text and when I hit the space key additional text from the box appears. But the problem is the space key also starts the game.
I want the space key to first display the additional text then hitting the space key starts the game.
So, any ideas how I can use the space key twice without disrupting the first key press?
I have some unwanted extra space at the bottom of my scrolling text box. I have been trying for hours to remove it but I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.[URL]
I have a few textfields that require characters to exactly fit (left and right). The characters are loaded dynamically and always fit whatever number of characters there's room for in the textfield. I'd like to justify the text so that the last letter in a textfield is placed right by the right border. However, it doesn't seem to work. My guess is that it's due to the lack of spaces between characters (there are no spaces whatsoever in the strings I'm importing). For this project, I will be using around 12000 textfields, so there's no way I'm going to place every character in a single textfield and position them one by one, as it would take up too much processing.
