I am using Flash 8 AS 2.0. heres what i have so far.I have a clock face with 12 numbers on.Over each number i covered them with a circle, converted them to buttons and named them twelve_btn eleven_btn etc .What i want is to create a pop up for each button which is clicked so if i click on twleve_btn a pop up will appear and say "You clicked on the number 12, click me to close"I would like to repeat this for each button.

I have three text fields sitting right next to each other, to create a row. Some times the text is longer than the width of the text field, I don't want to widen the the text field to make it fit, I just want to fade the last 20 - 50 pixels of the text out.
Is this possible to do without using an object above it, such as a gradient?
First let me warn you that I'm "old school" i.e. code is on my timeline and the only classes used were those automatically created when I added several new fonts to Script1.swf which is my movieclip for embedded fonts.
On the first frame of my main movieclip which is named Round.fla, I have loaded Script1.swf that contains the fonts using the loader object. I'm using a trace statement that shows that Script1_lb.swf is loaded.
I am using a listbox (script1_lb) with movieclip icons (jpg picture of the sample font) and the data is the name of the font class, like this: script1_lb.dataProvider.addItem( {icon:akaDora_mc, data:"akaDora"} );

I'm using some Lynda.com tutorial files for Flash CS5. When I open a file that contains a box with TLF text, I don't see any text; what I see is an empty blue box at the upper left corner of the stage. Same thing if I try to draw a TLF text box.I am new to Flash, so please be kind. Is there maybe a component I should have installed with the CS5 suite that I didn't install? I didn't install everything since I didn't need it all and don't have the disk space.

View 1 RepliesI am trying to make text bullets in Flash CS 5.5, and I noticed there is no way to do that using the text options in Flash, so I decided, I would just make a small circle shape, and place it where I needed. However, even though I place the shape in front of the text I want it to be in front of, when I test the movie, for some reason this shape, gets moved down about 5 pixels or so. (or the text is moving) I am using classic text.
Is there any reason for this shifting around?
And/or is there a way to just create text bullets in Flash?
I'm trying to create a scrolling text in Flash MX that will go horizontally from side to side of the stage, each scrolling text will be a number of words each separated of each other by a bullet or small circle. The scrolling text will be a Movie Clip with one single Dynamic text field that will load it's variables from a .txt document, that dynamic field will duplicate it self as many times as the amount of variables on the .txt document.
So I was thinking that if I created variables using a numbers like 1 = word, 2 = another word ect. To whatever numbers of words I want to be displayed on the scrolling text I could use a script on the first frame that could say something like this. (Dynamic text field has a variable called ticker)
loadVaraibles(TickerText.txt, this)
ticker = 1 + "."
Now comes the questions
Can flash read more than one variable in a single .txt file? Or it read on and assume that everything else within the file is just part of the first variable?
If this is possible how can I tell flash duplicate this dynamic text field as many times as the amount of variables on this particular .txt file?
I know this all sound really confusing but I hope that some one can understand me and give me some tips to get this to work or maybe make a simple sample of it and upload it on my server so I can see how can this be done.

I'm trying to create a flash app that has 2 things inside. An InputTextBox which is called txt_userinput and a Button called btn_submit.
Bascially, the user just need to type in some word in the InputTextBox and press btn_submit. The data will then be sent to a testing.TXT in my DESKTOP. My .FLA file is in MY DOCUMENTS while the testing.TXT is in my DESKTOP.
Question 1: Question is, how do I make the data from txt_userinput to be sent to the .TXT in my DESKTOP?
For example, the user typed "Hello, how are you?" in the InputTextBox. In the .TXT file, I want it to show "Hello, how are you?".
PS: testing.TXT file is already created in the desktop, just waiting for flash to write the data in and keeps on adding more data in the future in the following format.[code]...

On mouse over, I want the scrolling to stop so users can click on an item in the text box. All of the items will be tied to external hyperlinks. I want to populate the text box with an external file. I've done some searches on Adobe, but haven't found anything that takes me through the whole process.I have the complete Adobe Master Collection. So if this is easier in Flash Catalyst, let me know. Of course we can replace the [URL] (suppose it is the index page) with the welcome text(welcome xxx to our site...) in the server side.
However this is not convenient,and the text can not be full screened.
So I thought the flash,I can add a controller button at the page,when required,I click this button,and set the welcome words,then a flash will start to play with the sepcified words in a full screen model. It would be better if the flash can show the text with a Animation.
I have never did the flash development,so I want to know if this is possible?
BTW,can all the clients change to flash with juse one click?

I'd like to create a Hangman game, only instead of having the player enter a letter, I'd like to have 26 clickable buttons on the screen. This gives me so much more to offer clients as they can now update the text fields in Flash pages I create. I now need to know the following: I used Arial font for a dynamic text field, will someone who decides to edit the text in the xml file later on always see the new text in Arial on the site? In other words as long as I used Arial in the .fla the font used can only be changed in the .fla correct?

View 1 RepliesI'm thinking about making a game that would have 3 "save slots", so you could play the game and then load the game later. If you were to save the game, basically flash would store a list of variable values into a text file.
Let's say I have game.swf in a folder named MyGame.Also in that folder I'll have save1.txt, save2.txt, and save3.txt. If I'm loading a game, I'd want Flash to open that txt file, read the values, and then set the variables equal to that in the text file. So if you open save1.txt and you see a=1, b=3, and c=2, I'd want flash to then take those values and set it's own same variable a = 1, b = 3, and c = 2.
On the other hand, if you're saving a game, let's say a=10, b=10, and c=10, I'd like it for flash to open save1.txt and replace the text there with a list of the current variables.Flash would need to do one more thing... if for some reason the file were deleted, Flash would need to create a new txt file. If the txt file is missing, you couldn't load, but if you're trying to save to save1.txt and that file doesn't exist, I'd need flash to create a new save1.txt and then put the variables into it.

I want to create a simple high score list of 10 high scores of a game. From reading the forums I seem to get the idea that flash cannot create a simple text file. I don't have php or asp but do have cgi capability. Does anyone know where I can find a simple cgi-script that will allow me to write the text the cgi receives to a simple text file: game.sco I want to be able to write a single long string to it so that I create a string of values and can load it back in using flash loadvariables. I can create the string in flash... but how do I write it to a text file using a cgi script? the text file would include this string...I already know how to read it and split it to parse it into arrays:

I've seen similar threads but couldn't find one with the exact same issue. I've a PDF / Word document with arabic copy when I try pasting that text in flash all the joined letters start appearing as individual letters.I've tried the dynamic text box solution in which you create a dynamic text box and assign the text to its variable that doesn't work. But strangely when you write arabic in dynamic text box (with out assigning the text to the variable) and double click to select the text box and its content the text starts appearing fine .. but when published its again all individual letter.

I know I can use the textArea component and set the htmlText property but converting all of my RTF to HTML is gonna be a major pain in the @$$. I keep getting into trouble thinking what's mindlessly easy in Director/Lingo is gonna be reasonably simple in Flash/AS3, I hoping this is just my inexperience with Flash getting in the way. Is there an easier way? I thought of embedding a PDF document but apparently that's not an option in Flash either (note: I know how to link a PDF doc, I need this text to display and scroll within the application, not just pop a new window on top).

Similar to this: http:[url]...In this example, select a font then click create text item.At this point you can slide the meter to change the arc of the text. This is exactly what I need to do.My understanding of what needs to be done is I need to first break the letters of the text field into separate text fields, loop thru them then position and rotate each char to the desired arc. The problem is my trigonometry really bites. I have tried many tutorials and I have gotten similar results, mainly arcing text into a complete circle at different radiuses. But all I need to do is whats in the example, which is allowing the user to gradually arch the text.
