Rather than build a controller for each video on our website, my IT dept wants me to build one controller that all videos can access. How do I do that and do I need a script? I know nothing about scripting and I'm a newbie in video publishing

I'm trying to get a MovieClip to work, so when i roll over it, another movieclip shows up, and if i then roll onto the new movieclip(no longer on the old, in which case a function drags back the new movie clip) the movieclip will still stay.

It seems it can only control flvs?nyways, I am working on a flash animation with voice over and I need to have a video ontroller so it can rewind, fast forward, pause the swf and turn off the sound....etc....oes anyone know any video controller in AS3 that can control swfs out there that I can download or purchase?I know I could convert the swf to quicktime then flv, but the quality would be degraded because of the conversion from vector graphics to bitmap. I have page in my asp.net mvc website with a flash app on it, and the user can stay on that page for hours, but his auth cookie/session is going to expire, so I'm thinking to create a PingController and to call it using jquery $.post each 20 minutes.

Ok so my website is a basic portfolio site. the interface is as follows: on the right is a box shape...to the left are my buttons and on the top is my logo and such. now for my coding questions.
1. I want a gallery to appear in the box showing my work
2. My buttons are named "Photoshop", "Illustrator", and "Indesign", i would like to have it so when you click on each button a new window gallery will appear in the box to show my work for each pogram
3. How do i insert my images? Do i just place them in my library in Flash? Do i use dreamweaver?

I am a very basic user on adobe flash, basically all I use Flash for at this moment is to create animated gif or basic SWF website banners. The problem that I am encountering at this moment is that when I export to an animated GIF the image quality becomes pixelated (see sample image below), where if i export the same work to an SWF it appears normal, I have tried several different combinations on the settings when saving the GIF but everytime I get the same results.
I would only use SWF formats but our website does not support SWF in every section.
I'd like to create a Website in form of a book - completely scripted. Is that possible?

View 0 Repliesi am trying to build a site using ruby on rails and flash. i am trying to build a login page and i have my flash component with two text fields for user name and password. when the submit button is pressed, it sends the login info typed in to the text fields to the ruby controller via xml through a URLLoader. the controller then looks at this info and determines if it is correct or not and if it is, then it attempts to redirect the page in the view to another part of the website.
this is where the problem comes in. when the page is being redirected, it gets stuck and just says "transfering data from host" at the bottom but never redirects the page. this is all still on a local machine so it is not some sort of communication problem with the server. also if i replace the flash component with plain html it will redirect just fine. in addition to this, if i make it redirect from withen the flash component using navigateToURL that will work as well. the information is also getting sent correctly because it is setting off a COMPLETE event.

I can encode Flash video, and place a nice skin (controller bar) into the file, within Fash, but when I place the final .SWF file into my Dreamweaver page (Insert-->Media-->Flash), and test it in a browser, the vid will play automatically and there is no skin (controller bar). The skin file is residing in the same folder as the .FLV and the .SWF file, but for some reason the skin refuses to allow itself to be seen.

This is my first time using Flash to create a website. I am not familiar with Action Script, its functions classes etc., however I am familiar in programming in JAVA. I will be using ActionScript 3 and Flash CS5. (I have Flash CS4 also if needed). I am trying to create a website with a scrolling background that has 4 different scenes. I have attached an image to illustrate my idea. There will be a user interface, consisting of 4 buttons, which will be on stage at all times. Each of the button will correspond to a different scene of the background. So if the user clicks on the third button, the background will slide itself until the third scene appears on the stage.
Questions in mind:
How would the coding be like? I am planning to apply it to the button. So the background should shift ___ amount of pixels to the left or right depending on which scene the user is currently in. So if background is currently at position 800,0 (so the user is currently in scene 2) and the user clicks on 4th button. The background should move -1600 so the 4th scene will appear on stage. I am guessing there is 16 different cases I have to address. Assuming if that works, how would I also move the other objects on the scenes of background? Such as links to email address or my portfolio.
I have an embedded flash object with a movie parameter that uses a url as a parameter. When this URL is resolved on the client the full friendly url is used and the link to the .swf is then incorrect.Here is the HTML:

I inherited a flash application at work that is basically a bunch of symbols with actionscript inside each of them. There is also an external actionscript file that serves as the application controller, with much of the application logic in various frames of Scene 1. Some of the symbols are supposed to play a sound file on mouse over, which they do just fine, but when I try to get the global sound volume from the controller:

It doesn't work because it doesn't recognize the controller object. This is strange because the controller is called all throughout the project, but it is not seen within symbols.
I am trying to use a sound controller in a flash movie to play music and I am using loadMovieNum to load the sound controller movie at a particular point in the main timeline. I get the sound player to load up fine and the sound loads fine when a user presses play, but about a minute through the song the sound starts to play again, overlapping the song that is already playing.
This happens with no user interaction...it just takes about a minute. I also noticed that it is only when the sound player is within one of the movies. It doesnt happen when the sound player is all by itself. Is there something in my movie that is making it loop over?
I am creating a website to allow users to download a selection of soundfiles. What I'm wondering is how I can create a link in ActionScript 3 which downloads a specified file to the users machine - giving them control over the download location along the way.
