May 23, 2007I got a music portfolio web site running PHP, MySQL and Flash. There's a page showing all the artists my client worked for and when you click on a song title, this title is passed as a variable to a PHP page then to a Flash page. The Flash page contains an actionscript music player which then looks for the right audio file in the database and plays the song. Everything works great except for the dynamic text field which displays the song title. If the song title contains an apostrophe or a single quote, the Flash dynamic text field then shows the apostrophe.[code]

Apr 11, 2007I have a website that is all flash. I have a main file that loads in the nav and then the nav loads in the designated .swf file for each section. So there are several sections(.swf's) with lots of text taken from a database and inserted into the swf file from
an XML file. If I click in between sections, and go back to the original section of text the formatting is lost. This is only in Internet Explorer 7- this does not happen in Firefox or on the Mac.

My xml file is structured as:

I am trying to create a rollover where when you rollover caption0; caption1 and caption2 are displayed in sequence. Everything works except though only the first caption is ever displayed. For the other two I get "level0.caption1" and "level0.caption2" instead of the text in the xml file above. How do I parse the data so that each of the variables are assigned the text in the xml file?

May 22, 2007I'm sorry this is a question from a server ignoramus, I've previously captured user input using a combination of cfml and text files. That was way back in 2002 and using AS 1.0. I'm now working in an environment where the server guy won't put any scripts on, and I mean none, no PHP, no ASP, no CFML, nothing. Would anyone know if there is a way of capturing user input without using a script, please? This prolly shows a really basic lack of understanding of how servers work but I'm a bit desperate. I know the Flash Learning Interactions can work with SCORM and pop results into LMSs that use SCORM and our LMS does use SCORM, but it seems to only be within the learning interactions and I don't know where to start to tailor this for the input I need to capture.

Dec 11, 2006I would like to basically create an flash application that would allow a visitor to answer a few questions and then be presented with an image based on the answers provided via a form. If the generated output is not acceptable - I would like the visitor to be able to regenerate the output with a single click and continue to do so until the image is acceptable. The questions/process would be something like:
1. What is your favorite shape? (a drop down list of data from DB would be selectable)
2. what is your favorite color? (same as above option)
3. what is your favorite things to do? (this answer would work similar to a search and match keywords related to images within the DB and be placed in a designated area of the image)
4. what is your name? (first - last)
the results would then generate a image... Does anyone know where I can begin the process of making a application like this?

Jan 26, 2007I've made a flash page with user input for email and comments. The thing is I am working with a aspx.net server. The programmer has written out a aspx coding for the server side. Now all i have to do is write a script in the input fields in flash to connect to the aspx server. The progammer said that I would have to create variables inside the flash program to call to the aspx page he created. I am faily new to aspx and have no clue to writing a script with variables.

Data Integration :: Enable Data Management If Passing An Extra Variable To PHP Script?
May 7, 2010Im trying to use dynamic SQL tables on my PHP server so I need to pass the table name to the PHP script. I don't understand why the Data Management system that sets up CRUD won't allow this extra parameter. It says it can only have one input: item. I can get all records, but when I try to create, update, or delete I get an error.
Or is there another way I can pass the tablename variable to the php file before I call any functions?

Mar 14, 2011I'm trying to read some data in from a sql source, some of which contains double quotes embedded in the text. I know I can strip the doublequotes, but don't want to go that route if I can avoid it. I've tried replacing to double quotes with hex codes before passing the text via parameter to my flash file, but the text string always cuts off at the hex code, the same as if the double quote were present in the string. To ensure proper saving without surprising the user with a permissions dialog unexpectedly, I'd like to request unlimited data storage on first time app launch - Joey Lott shows how to do this in the Actionscript Cookbook... request=mySO.flush(1024 * 500);
My question is,Can I perform this permissions request with the user a single time with a generic app SO in global fashion, so that the permissions would be set for any SOs created during the use of the product (all written to same SO directory),or do I have to request
permissions for each and every SO created? Since the latter would be unacceptable from a UE standpoint, that means stuffing all app data into a single SO which doesn't seem so great from a data config perspective...

Mar 4, 2009I cant believe that Flash will let you load data from a text file then doesn't allow you to do anything with the data other than display it. Surely there must be a way you can do something the data imported ie perform some calculations. Is this beyond Flash or is this something that has been addressed in AS3? All the tutorials I've found all stop at just displaying and 'swonking'.

Sep 5, 2006We have implemented a Flash photo slideshow on our site and it works just fine for most of our users. Whenever the xml.load(success) returns false I have the Flash email me a debug report. For the life of me I can not find a common thread between all of these people having problems with the Flash. I don't think it's a cross-domain issue because it works for most people, and I have the crossdomain.xml files where they should be.

Jan 14, 2008I have an Access Database (doesn't need to be Access, I can phpAdmin or mysql, whatever will work) that has a list of names. I want the user to open a Flash form and have the names load up into seperate input boxes for each name. The user can then change the names, move them, whatever, and then save the record. I want it to just overwrite the record. I donlt want create a new record. I cannot, for the life of me, figure this out. I have tried to find some tutorials but nothing makes sense. Is ASP a good way to go? I have been struggling with this for a week now.

However, I need to get the XML data into a (JSP) session and can't neccesarily have an external XML file--any suggestions? Can I put the XML string into a hidden input field in a form on the HTML? Can Flash communicate with that HTML? Or are one of the below methods recommended:
