I am creating a gallery type site, I am loading xml data externally creating duplicate movie clips and it all works fine, my only problem is I want them to go to a URL, I have one of the nodes with the URL and in my actionscript I am calling a function to getURL on press, the problem is on each separate movieclip it links to the URL of the last movieclip in the stack.

function? I am trying to pause the timeline I am clicking from in Flash. If I take this line out (this.play() it pauses, but if I were to go that way how would I start getting my MC to play again when the user gets back to the flash window?
I think this is a scope issue, but can't be sure. I am using FlashDevelop, Actionscript 2.0 to create my movie. I call the sendAndLoad() function to display data from a database. I also have "Previous" and "Next" buttons to move through different data.
Since I was going to load data in three different locations (Load, Previous, Next) I created a LoadData() function. This function contains the sendAndLoad() to the server.
The initial load works great with the LoadData() function, the first record is displayed correctly. My problem is when I program the onPress for the Previous and Next buttons.
Why does my LoadData() function not run when inside the Previous/Next button onPress events?

I'm using getURL to send a string to a 4D webserver for tracking purposes. I'm using "_self" for the window and not using GET or Post and the string is the full http address including the path pointing to the 4d app with the variable appended to the string in XML format...the send works and is recorded by the 4d server..but a browser window opens which is don't want (it's unneeded and interrupts the flash)..is there a way to send with getURL without invoking a browser?

I have a Flash movie which is embeded in 'base.aspx' file, when a button is clicked in the flash movie another 'something.aspx' file need to be called.When I run the flash movie from the Adobe Flash Professional CS3 IDE , it (the flash movie) calls the 'something.aspx' file just as expected.However when I embed the flash movie in to the 'base.aspx' file it doesn't work as expected .

This function is called by clicking on a thumbnail, and it uses a parameter [e.target.name] refering to the property "name" of the thumbnail clicked, which is an integer (or I believe so). I am new to Flash and would like some help from you guys. My friend has created a flash navigation bar for me. Since I can not add links here, huhtea is the address with com.
Now, I would like to add text links and onPress (getURL) for images in my submenu.I have tried all kinds of things. I have watched numerous youtube clips on this matter. After adding onPress codes in Actionscript 1.0 & 2.0 and checking them, everything was fine. But if I publish it, the image does not go to the URL.
This goes for the text link as well. After highlighting the text and adding http address in the properties, everything is fine. But again, published file does not lead me to the URL.
I have the following code attached to a button that is calling a simple php form. The problem is that we think this might be an issue because we don't want to use "_self" and the only other alternative is "_blank". and we think it will cause issues because of pop-up blockers. My question is: Is there any alternative to "getURL" that can call a form on a php file without requiring a pop-up window or a redirect?

I have a video player that is currently using XML for its video library which is all fine and dandy. Now I have some developers working on a CMS type page in PHP that is going to hopefully pass some sort of information to my player that will let it know where the video is stored on our server. Is there a way to do this without using FMS? If so does anyone have ideas where I can find the information for it.

The client is saying "it isn't working", what that means I'm not sure. So I sent her the same link in an email and said click this and tell me what happens. She said "it worked".So my question is what could be causing this.

I try to create a flash menu; where every button on the screen operates as a simple getUrl() link. Because of this, I have taken the following steps:- Create new document.- Create a symbol on the canvas.- convert is into a button Symbol- Double Click the button and adding events for up, down, over by clicking F6 on each frame.- back in scene one, I right click the button and open the Action panel- Adding the Script: "on release { getUrl('index.html'}- Press ctrl + enter to test the move ! All the tutorials I have read tell me how to link to a file on the internet I'm trying to set up an intranet site for my training college where students can access training resources etc on the local network. Therefore my getURL needs to point to a local file, not one on the internet. I'm trying to link to a .htm file that resides on my computer. Does the htm file have to be in the same folder as the .fla file?? How do I do this?? I'm working on a Mac, Os X, MX 2004, if that makes any difference.
View 1 RepliesI'd like to create one empty Flash movie that is essentially a placeholder for externally loaded content I can change through XML. This content would just be able to randomly load 1 of 3 photos, with a button linking to a website within each of the photos on page load. If the user refreshes the page, a new photo with it's link would appear, but I understand since it's random,having 3 images the same image is likely to reappear, but I can always add additional photos and links.
Does anyone know of a tutorial that might lead me on the correct path to create this? I've found some tuts, but they've been different than my need.
We want to be able to upload over 100+ files (if needed) to a server along with desc + keywords. I see that Flash 8 has the neccessary tools to handle file uploading, but my question is, can we have it act as a Stand alone FTP program so that we can utilize the fastest user upload, or will we be confined to the settings in the server INI settings.IE MAX_UPLOAD_TIME,MAX_FILESIZE, etc. If possible we want to avoid using the HTTP upload as it is noticeably slower. So if we can use flash to utilize user BW to upload, then that would be ideal.

I got a music portfolio web site running PHP, MySQL and Flash. There's a page showing all the artists my client worked for and when you click on a song title, this title is passed as a variable to a PHP page then to a Flash page. The Flash page contains an actionscript music player which then looks for the right audio file in the database and plays the song. Everything works great except for the dynamic text field which displays the song title. If the song title contains an apostrophe or a single quote, the Flash dynamic text field then shows the apostrophe.[code]

I don't understand why the Data Management system that sets up CRUD won't allow this extra parameter. It says it can only have one input: item. I can get all records, but when I try to create, update, or delete I get an error.

Im new to placing external data into Flash. I just got CS3 and Im trying to use Flash to dynamically load XML data via a FlashVars call in the HTML.
The problem is I have followed the very straight forward AS2 Help files for using FlashVars and URL variables.I have placed the code directly from the Help file into the Html between

I know I can strip the doublequotes, but don't want to go that route if I can avoid it. I've tried replacing to double quotes with hex codes before passing the text via parameter to my flash file, but the text string always cuts off at the hex code, the same as if the double quote were present in the string.
