I am trying to breake apart text in flash (CS4) and distribute it to separate layers. The breaking apart works fine, but when I want to distribute the letters into layers, I get this: "could not complete operation because of an unknown error".

has anybody a solution to this "Distribute to layers" - Bug. Every time i try to use this feature, flash is prompting a failure. As an animator, i am used to use this all the time. if i dont get this fixed, cs4 is worthless to me.
View 3 RepliesI have created a vector design in Illustrator on a single layer and have imported it into my Flash library using the import layers to Flash Layers option. Because I created the design on a single layer in Illustrator, the design imports as a single layer in Flash. My problem is that I cannot distribute any of the individual graphics to a new layer, even after converting them to movie clips. When I select "Distribute to Layers", a new layer is created for each of the selected graphics but the layers are empty.
I have also tried cutting a graphic from the import layer and pasting it into a new layer but it always pastes back into the original import layer rather than the one I have selected.Is there any way around this or will I need to go back into Illustrator and create separate layers based on my needs in Flash?
i am trying to edit a flash template with flash cs4.the problem is that there are some pictures in there that are hidden ( dont ask how is that possible becoz i dont know). to see this pictures i have to use distribute into layers. as i want to change this photos the problem is that after i change them i dont know how to do the invers of distribute into layers.... and as a result the template doesent work as it has to.

i changed fle types i saved pics in jpg, jpeg, bmp, png. but nothing works.
in Flex I'm able to load a Image into an Image component (mx:Image) via a URL and it will display it, however in Flash if I try to load the same image via URL I get an unknown file type error. If I browse to the URL in a broswer, I can view the image.

I've developed a preloader for an ActionScript 3 application that uses URLLoader to load an encrypted swf. This has been tested on different OSs, Flash Players and browsers and everything works as expected except for a series of PCs being used by a colleague on a corporate network. The PCs at fault use Flash Player 10.0.22.87 with IE6 on WinXP and get security sandbox error #2048 depending on the contents of the file being loaded! Some of the tests and results include:removing 99% of the contents but keeping first 6k (works)replacing contents with 4 bytes 00 (works)inserting 16 bytes: EF BB BF <html></html> at beginning of file (works)inserting 16 0s at the beginning of the file (fails)xor FF all bytes (fails)I've tried other tests such as different file extensions, Security.allowDomain(¯), crossdomain.xml, Security.loadPolicyFile(¦), dataFormat = URLLoaderData Format.BINARY etc but I think these are all irrelevant due to the fact that the app sometimes works.The code is just the standard new URLLoader(), adding event listeners, then calling load(new URLRequest(¦)). The test app doesn't include the loadBytes() so this isn't the issue either.
The PC at fault could be behind a firewall or using a proxy. At this stage my only theory is that their antivirus, firewall or proxy is examining the contents and sometimes decides to intervene, perhaps with a redirect. This would also explain why (according to the web server logs) the files are being requested even though the security sandbox error is generated. However, this does not explain why Flash generates the error in the first place, depending on the contents.It's not possible for me to visit on site or get them to modify their settings or configuration, but I can ask them to run various Flash Apps for testing.URL...I can come up with a workaround (such as ensuring the file always starts with dummy <html> tags and then strip them before decrypting), but I'd prefer to get to the bottom of this issue if possible to be confident it won't occur again; this is for a Facebook application so it's possible it will be used in a large variety of environment

When I select the layer and press F8 it just makes a movie symbol with just one frame in it. If I try another way where I copy all the frames, select 'New Symbol' and paste all the frames into it I get an error message that says 'Could not complete operate due to an unknown error'. I added a feature that checks whether the content is a Bitmap or a MovieClip, since prior to this my class was only used for quick-loading images, but now I've got a need to load MovieClips with it as well. But since the compiler error only happens half the time, I'm wondering if this has anything to do with it. I'm wondering if the logic board in my laptop is going, at this point. I've been trying to format a text field using html in an xml file. So far it's been working fine but I tried to load an image to the text field and I got this error:
