Do Browsers Automatically Delete Cached Flash Elements When Not In Use Or Full?
Feb 8, 2012
I have about 50-100 flash elements on a page which are audio players that play only one audio each that are different from each other.Whenever a user clicks one of the player buttons, the audio either streams or loaded as a single mp3.I would like to know how browsers handle swf or audio that is on a page. If 50 of the players are clicked at 10mb each and not all at once, then I can imagine that there would be 500mb stored in the browser eventually as cache.If the browser only has 100mb to cache, how does it work? Does it delete the other swf or audio in cache or does it cause issues to the browser such as crashing or slowing down the computer, etc.

We have a flash app (AS3) that reads some data from a local XML file and displays it in a cool way. The problem is that the browser(s) seem to cache this XML data, i.e. when we revisit the page containing the flash, it is rendered using out of date data (the XML file is updated regularly). We find we must visit the URL of the actual XML file and hit refresh (CTRL+F5) to get the new XML to load, and then go back to the page with the flash to see it rendered with the up-to-date data. Is there a way to remedy this? Perhaps the solution is like the one used to prevent caching of Javascript, i.e. appending a random GET param to the URL?

I'm looking for a solution to the following problem and I'm not sure if this is possible to do with Umbraco.We have a Flash movie which will read in images/paths to images and an accompanying title via XML and we need to be able to manage these through Umbraco.Is it possible to program an event for when an image is uploaded or removed from this specific folder so that it makes changes to the XML file and so it adds or removes the corresponding data?

how this site: [URL] :was able to have the four corner elements know to always bounce themselves to the corners of the browser window or full screen. I've been able to do something similar on load, but not dynamically, resizing in real time. I have a client site I'm designing in which this functionality would be quite excellent, but can't seem to figure it out. I'm assuming this is being done in AS2, not AS3, because the html code is only calling the Flash 8 plug-in.

I'm attempting to put together a Flash site that fits the entire browser window no matter what the user sizes it to. I have searched here along with Google and can't seem to find a solution to my problem. I found a nice example on how to achieve it however it is missing one key aspect of what I need which has got me wondering whether or not what I'm looking to do is even possible.
My flash site has movie clips that will animate from off the stage on the right and bottom edges. What I want to have happen is in the browser window I want it to look like it comes from off-screen as well. So for example, you have a ball bounce in from off the right side of the screen into the center of the browser and then maybe it bounces down off the screen at the bottom of the browser.
The solution I have found fills the window and doesn't scale which is what I'm looking for, but any items that are off the stage in my Flash file will show in the browser if it is resized big enough. Here's the example I found[url]..

I want my SWF to fill the browser window, but it's not working in Chrome/FireFox unless the user manually resizes the browser. I'm using Adobe's default, generated html + swfobject.js to show my SWF. In the html, I replaced all flashcontent heights and widths with 100%. Unfortunately, in Chrome when you first open the page the Flash MovieClip doesn't fill the browser and instead retains it's default height and width.
If the user resizes the browser window, everything works fine. Is there a javascript trick or something I can do to make the Flash think it's being resized? I never want scrollbars to appear. I want my application to scale and fill the browser window perfectly -- I want it to get really small if the browser is small and really big if the browser is big. Basically, I want my app to run like a normal Windows app, such as Visual Studio, but in a browser.

I'm finding that certain browsers for Mac (and perhaps PC) force my custom flv player to load the entire external file before playback begins.
The basics of my code:
Code:
var nc:NetConnection = new NetConnection();
nc.connect(null);
var ns:NetStream = new NetStream(nc);
[Code].....
How do I stipulate instant playback in browsers that try to perform a full preload? By the way ... "vP" is already on the stage and is the video player.

I am working on a Flash app that is 900x700 pixels. When viewed in misc. browsers at 1024x768, the browser chrome causes robs too much of the vertical space and the app appears in a window with a vertical scrollbar. Unacceptable.
The flash app will be launched via a link emailed to the viewers.
I'd like to avoid resizing the flash app and am wondering if there's a way to do the following via javascript, with no clicks involved:maximize the current browser window remove current window address bar and tabs / switch browser to full screen view (equivalent to pressing F11).
An alternative would be to resize the flash app vertically to match the browser canvas height to avoid scrolling. This may cause the app to become unreadable, so not the best approach in my case.
UPDATE: Seems that browser resizing and autoswitch to full screen won't work and neither will the flash app auto resize. What is the best approach then? And, some users may have browsers with toolbars or open a small browser window.
The only idea I have is to use javascript and display a message to users with small browser windows to pres F11 manually. The audience is executes and some may not even know what an F11 means...

I inherited a flash website about a year ago.. not sure what version it was originally done in. I've made changes on the model last year using CS3 Flash Action script 2, but don't remember the flash version when published. The audio in question is the music that plays in the background when you get on the website:
[URL]
When I changed the image of the model this last week using CS4, I published it as Flash8 actionscript 2... now, the music plays on Mac Safari and Mac Firefox, but not on the Windows versions of IE or Firefox..
this is the code called sound control
onClipEvent(load)
{
_root.soundstatus="on";
_root.mySound = new Sound(_level0);
[Code]....
then there's the stop() that's used when the music is toggled off..
I've tried updating the flash player in Windows to the latest release, and I even tried republishing as flash 10, just not sure where to troubleshoot this..

I'm building a flash file in action script 2.0, and it works great except for one thing I'm publishing it as an .exe file, and when you open the .exe, it opens in a partial window and is partially off screen. I'd like the .exe file to automatically open full screen every time. Does someone have AS2 code for the flash file that would make this happen, or is there a way to accomplish this in the .exe file itself?

Is there a way in AS3 to load the .swf to full screen mode straight away? The only way I can find to do it is by adding an event listener for the mouse or keyboard. Surely this can be done automatically at the start when the .swf is loaded?

I need a video which has been embedded into Flash to stretch, regardless of aspect ratio.This video will then reveal some content which I don't want stretching at all.I've tried using the "exactFit" scaleMode property and tried to find a way of that only affecting the video and not everything in the swf, but I failed. I've also tried using Stage.width/height and applying it to the dimensions of the video but t

I am developping a as3 project for a kiosk that should run in full screen mode.I am using eclipse for the programming and Flash CS4 to prepare all the swf library assets.Once I publish the swf, I open it in the flash player and export the file as a projector file.
When I open the projector file it doesn't go full screen automatically.
Where can I set the project to go full screen?In the code?Or is there a preference setting for the projector file?Or another way to publish the projector file that will allow me to set the full screen mode?I remember using fscommand in as2 but that doesn't seem to work anymore.

I am implementing a flex auto-suggest combobox - as the user types in each character: Consider the string 'Stackoverflow' and user input = 'st'
1) the data provider is filtered to show all items starting with 'st'
2) text is set to auto-suggest string such that the un-typed part is highlighted.
So for instance, the combobox text may contain st'ackoverflow', where 'ackoverflow' is highlighted using setSelectedIndex()When I hit back-space or delete, and check the 'this.text' value, I expect that the last un-highlighted character ('t' in the above case) gets deleted and the data provider is filtered to show all items starting with 's'. However the text property contains 'st', as before

There is the following bug in the gallery:Once you open up the gallery you see a container with all small thumbnails.If you start mouse over the main container you can see the following happen:
- shadow filter change
- quality of the thumbs change
There is a rotationY and rotationX on the main container. As soon as i remove that there is no bug and the shadow and quality of images is perfect.So what does flash do to children and their filters inside a container when using transform propertys before a MouseEvent happen to that maincontainer.You should use F5 a few times before you excaly can see it.

I am creating a full screen projector with flash CS4. In the projector I have more videos, starting from an swf player-
The problem I encounter is this:
The projector starts correctly FULLSCREEN (using AS). The video plays 900x506 correctly. If I click on the player, to get the video full screen, it works. But when I press ESC, not only the video, but also the PROJECTOR looses full screen.
This is a bit annoying. Is there a way to apply the "back to normal size" only to the video? I do not want to prevent the app to be exited from full screen, it's not a problem if the user wants to exit the projector full screen. But not when the user exits the video from fullscreen mode.
How to target only the video?

I agree with Steve Jobs and the Apple people that adobe flash really hangs the pc and its buggy at times
