I have text that wraps around an image on a page and I want the text to fade in from top to bottom. I would have just made a gradient in Photoshop and then tweened it over the text. But the text wraps around an image and the gradient would cover the image.

View 1 RepliesI can't work out why - but when I try to fade out some text (by calling fadeoutSecondText), the text fades out, and then immediately fades back in. Fading in and out struggle against each other, resulting in rapidly flashing text!

I have almost completed my first Flash project at work, after numerous losses of sanity, blood, sweat and tears. Anyhow I am on the last step and can see the end in site.
I have a movie within the webpage where text fades in. There are three components to the section; static text, a button and text that is linked via another movie file. When the text fades in each of the elements mentioned fade in at different times/rates. What should be looking at? I think that all the frame rates should be the same? Should I combine them all into one and make the fade easier to work with?
I am making a childrens story book for school and to go between the pages of text I want the text to fade in and out.. I have been trying many different things and have looked quite thoroughly and have found nothing which is what i want.
What I Would Like If I have a book (see book.jpg attached) and in that book i will have text. When the next or previous page button is pressed the page will go to either the previous or next page.
The way I think it whould be done When you click on the next or previous or next button the text is written into a dynamic text field with action script, but is there anyway to have that script fade in when it is written with action script.I think this would require having just one dynamic text field and the buttons on one frame and then just writing and fading the dynamic text in that text field when you click the button. Also is there anyway to set the previous and next button to load different text depending on the text that is already loaded?
How to fade in & out an object using actionscript? I got some text and I want it faded out 1st, but when it slides in want to fade it in using actionscript cause this cuts down the file size than trying to do it using tween.
View 14 RepliesI'm sure this is very simply but I can't seem to get the trick down. I have a simply scroller with text. Nothing dynamic, just a plain 'ol scroller. I'd like the text to fade in or out, from the top or bottom, as the user scrolls. Take a look at this site and click on The Film link. The text fades as you scroll up/down. [URL]. View 1 RepliesI've read through several tutorials but I must be doing something wrong on this. I'm using Adobe Flash Pro CS4. I am trying to create a short clip that fades text in over a bacground video. When I create a motion tween on the text track, I'm generating an error and the background video is no longer visible in the preview. Instead, I see the text over the stage background color. It is as if the background video track has switched to wireframe. Here are the steps I've followed:
1. Created Flash File (ActionScript 3.0).
2. Imported Video into the State background layer - it appears as a black image in the it previews fine at that point
3. Created new layer for text and placed text - it previews fine at this point, text is overlaying video
4. I right click on the text block and choose convert to symbol.
5. Next with the play head on the first frame and the Text layer selected I choose Create Motion Tween. This is when AFP throws this error:TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference. at fl.video::UIManager/http://www.adobe.com/2007/flash/flvplayback/internal::hookUpCustomComp onents() at [code]...
SO i have looked and looked and I am beginning to believe that this may just be impossible to do with Actionscript. Basically i have a backend php file that creates an XML file of randomly selected entries from a Db. That XML file is imported to the swf file, and currently i can rotate through the XML nodes with no problem. Where i am now having issues is trying to have each entry Fade in.........and then fade out. Doing this with tweening is not an option because the tween time period never matches up with the backend actionscript rotation time period.
I have read alot about how you need to embed fonts to make this possible. have done that to no avail. THis can not be that out there of an idea. Basically i have a list of advertiser names and am wanting to rotate through them........but want a little more style than just a hard cut between the entries.

View 5 Repliesi am a newbie flash designer. a client has asked me to make modifications in a flash file used on his website. it is flash 8 actionscriptfile which i decompiled using sothink decompiler 4.5 build 90120 to '~divisions original.fla'. the xml folder resides in the same folder as ~divisions original.fla. it contains divisions.xml.i discovered a problem - if you view 'divisions.swf' - when you click on 'retail visual solutions'and scroll to the bottom, you can see that there is no space after the text. the end of the text aligns with the end of the scrollbar. but when you click on eyesite, and scroll to the bottom, you can see that there is space after the text. the end of the text does not align with the end of the scrollbar.
my additional questions are:has the creator of the swf file used some unique scrollbar code or is this scrollbar provided in flash itself. in this case, i can read a tutorial to understand it better.i have given 'is correct - no space at bottom of text.jpg' and 'is incorrect - space at bottom of text.jpg' to further explain my query.
I'm working on a simple chat application in Flash / AS3. There's a Chat input box, a Send button, and a TextField where the contents of the chat input box appear after the message has been sent.By default, when you add text to a TextField, the text appears at the top, and works it's way down to the bottom. I would like to do (something close to) the opposite: Have new messages appear at the bottom of the TextField, and old messages move up to the top as new messages are added.
View 2 RepliesI made a post under actionscript 2.0, but I wasn't sure if it belonged there. So here goes.I made a text box and added a mask to it, it is really long so I made it scrollable. For some reason it keeps cutting off the bottom of the text, meaning it won't scroll all the way down, it truncates it. The text is dynamic and the fonts are embedded, heck I even tried breaking the fonts apart.

So if I have 1 line of text its on the bottom of the text box, if I have 2 lines of text...its the bottom 2 lines of the text box, if i Have 5 lines of text...it takes up the whole box, starting from the top?

View 1 RepliesI use a rather big font size and the bottom of some characters is truncated ("g" for example, or any character going under the baseline):
I first thought it was a problem with the component height, but even with a very large height the characters got truncated, with big empty spaces above and under the text. I looked for a solution on the net but did not find one. Worst: I was not able to find references to my problem though it seems to be an important one. Is there a CSS property to prevent this behavior or do I have to look elsewhere?
edit: I use Flex 3 and Halo/MX components
I have an input field that adds content to the dynamic text field, and when the content exceeds a certain length, scroll bars come into play. That works fine. The issue that I'm having is that when I extend the dynamic text field it does it from both top and bottom evenly. Thereby, moving the first entry down incrementally as more content is added. Is there a way to keep the top of the dynamic text field at a fixed position while only extending to the base?
View 5 RepliesBasically I have a textfield that will have a fixed width and wrap the text, which will be passed to it dynamically. Since the text will be dynamic,there's no guarantee of how many lines the text will take up.Directly underneath that textfield i have another text field that will also take dynamic text. Think of it as a title and a subtitle.so I'll have something like this:

and probably others that I'm forgetting. Getting it to work with a single line of text isn't really a problem, but as soon as the text begins to wrap to multiple lines, everything i've tried seems to fall apart.
when text is added via radiobuttons it displays.as soon as i get over 7 lines a scroll bar appears -as more lines of text are added (via radio button click) the scroll bar moves down - HOWEVER------The scroll bar is not completely at the bottom - its one line up, so you have to scroll to see the last line....I have tried everything.maxVerticalScrollPosition, verticalscrollposition etc..

I have a program and use there dynamic text. For this text i use special font CAMPFIRE.ttf.A lot of users dont have this font on their pc but i want then they open my .swf and see this font.For this i use next code:

i made a function for replacing a text letter by letter. You've probably seen this effect of putting in place of a text a random one, with the length of the new text and then replacing the random text, letter by letter with the new one. It worked fine but I had to do some adjustments, because I needed to vertically align the text to the bottom, and I had the newline character in the text which gave me some issues with the aligning. Since I did this adjustments, string.length returns undefined even if trace(string) shows the correct text in the output window. On the other hand length(string) gives me the right answer. I also use the charAt function which also returns undefined, even if the trace function shows the correct text.
