View 2 RepliesIn a project that I'm working on, I have to be able to read input data from a serial port. The input data will be very simplistic in nature. I'm guessing more like a on/off, yes/no, true/false style of operation.I have found some examples in other languages, but nothing in AS3 or AS2. Could anyone send any sample code or a link to a tutorial that gives me some lead way on this? Which approach is better, going with a Flash projector piece, or building it in AIR? The final piece will be on a PC based system.

View 2 RepliesWhy not have the Adobe Flash CS5 product directly generate mp4 and other formats in addition to SWF?From my chair (as an Adobe Flash CS5 user) it
-Going about using other additional software has direct effect on a software budget.
-Costs extra manhours to gather information of how it is done.
-Costs extra manhours/user time to process.
-Perhaps even increases the likelihood for errors and noise in re-processing already processed files (SWF->{F4V,MOV,MP4}) (F4V->{MP4,MOV},)relative to the original source FLA file?
I have the following class:
package {
import flash.display.Sprite;
import flash.events.KeyboardEvent;
import flash.ui.Keyboard;
[Code]...
Is there a way to access the properties directly? I tried making this = new new swfShip() but that doesn't work.
I need to have a button that contains a text box, and have the text change. First, is there a way to access a text box directly in a SimpleButton? While I know this doesn't work, it would look something like
Code:
btn.upState.textField.text="Text"
Second, since I could not get that to work, I made a movie clip, put the button i made in it, and simply put the text box over the button. The problem this creates is that when the mouse is hovering over just the button it is in the over state. When the button moves over the text box it goes back to the up state. Why it does this and if it is possible for the button to still be in its over state when the mouse is over an object that is on top of the button itself?
I am start developing small games (I have just finished reading a nice book from Rex van der Spuy) but I would like to use the best OO approach.Let's make a very simple example: suppose that i have a Player class which adds a listener to the stage waiting for keyboard events in order to move around the stage.I have also some enemies on the stage and the player must register a collision with them; what is the best approach in order to access the enemies on the stage and check for a collision with them on the ENTER_FRAME player's event? I have read a lot of solutions, but I am just starting coding and so I don't know which one is the best approach.
a) Access the document class directly with a getter (e.g. Main(root).allEnemies, supposing that every time an enemy is created it is added to the allEnemies array)?
b) A singleton class which has a reference to every instance in the stage?
c) I have read about using events, how?
ActionScript Code:
package
{
import flash.display.MovieClip;[code].....
In code I use this before URLLoader (swf will be used with many different domains and this will be changing in time):
Security.allowDomain("*");
In http:[url]...., I have this for test:
<?xml version="1.0" ?>
<cross-domain-policy>[code].........
I used [url].... to create access for any domain (for test) and copied it directly into file server and also test if [url].... is accessible. I checked flashlog.txt and found that [url].... is loaded but will be ignored because of its syntax error - its generated by crossdomainmaker website and also correct with specifications and examples over internet, so what can I do?
I'm using action script 3.0 compiling the code to flash 10 how to get hard disk serial number with action script?I want to get this info without any security requirement. Is there a way to do it?
View 2 RepliesI'm trying to find out if there is a way to output serial information from flash. For instance, I have a serial port (Can also be USB) device with eight relay switches, each one triggered by a few bits and bytes correlating to the serial pins. I was wondering if the print function in flash could be forced to output specific signals.
View 4 RepliesThe problem I've encountered is that I am using a keyboardEventListener to make a movieclip run around. As I'm a college student, I'm creating this for an assignment but we are forced to use as3 classes.
When I run the code in the maintimeline, there is no problem. But when I try to access it from another class (with an 'Export for ActionScript' on the movieclip in question) I get an error he can't address the stage.
this.stage.addEventListener(KeyboardEvent.KEY_DOWN, dostuff);
I want to know can we use access's database to work with flash or adobe air?

I added a graphic to the stage and I need to access it from actionscript

By porting I was thinking of cross-compiling.
I want to write an application that monitor the USB port, and when something is connected should show the contents of the drive (image viewer) automatically.there is any way to do that with Flex/Flash directly?or i might program another application in C in order to monitor the USB port and then comunicate with the front-end application with sockets?

I need to port a C-like enum to Haxe:
enum Items
{
item1,
item2=0x00010000,
item3=0x00010001,
item4,
[Code].....
But Haxe doesn't allow default value it seems. How can I do this? My real enum has hundreds of entries and for those with default values I must preserve the values.
I would like to know if i could download the .swf file the site uses and still be able to access the site from the file? I know this is a little complicated but i'm new here. simply, download site access site servers from computer file.

I have a section of code that starts with creating a new NetConnection and then streaming a media file from an external source. I see in the documentation that you can provide a destination port (via the URL), but is it possible to force Flash to use a specific source port? I couldn't find a clear way to do this in the documentation, but I was curious if anyone else has an alternate method or idea.
FMS and IIS are set up with separate IPs on the same server. Both are configured for port 80 because others, including 1935, are often inaccessible from certain environments. Problem is, the server's behind a router. Port 80 can only be forwarded to either the IP of FMS or that of IIS. Even if the two were on separate machines, I'd still have to deal with this.
View 1 RepliesI have a very complex social networking system built using the Adobe Flex SDK. Since we are experiencing certain performance issues, I want to move it to a "light-weight" platform, the backend is PHP so its just the UI.
What are my other options if I don't want to use Silverlight ?
I was told I could use AJAX/jQuery, which I am not familiar with - are there any GUI designers available ?What kind of GUI designer can I use to design my UI ?
Basically, Im learning how the socket class works in AS3, seems pretty simple, but I dont know what port to assign in the second connect() parameter, let say I wanna load a image from the web, what should I have to do to figure what port is the right one?

View 1 RepliesI have a Flash application written in ActionScript 2 that I would like to port to the BlackBerry Playbook. The application is composed of an .swf file and a directory containing a large number of vector images. The path to these images (e.g. imagefolder/icons/icon1.swf) is hard-coded into an application and requires the image directory and the .swf file to be in the same directory.
I've installed the PlayBook SDK and have tried packaging the application with FlashBuilder 4, but I have no experience with this programme and have so far been unsuccessful. I tried placing the application in an SWFLoader component, but I then realised after reading this pdf document that MXML components are not supported. Since the app is written in AS2, I believe it cannot be compiled by Flash Builder. I don't need any any of the AIR features so I was wondering how could I embed the .swf and image directory in a Flash Builder ActionScript project so that it would run on the BlackBerry PlayBook.
I recently bought a new machine and tried to put my Flash 8 software onto it. The serial number was fine, but it requested the serial number of the software I upgraded from, which I no longer have (MX, I think it was. I threw it out ages ago thinking I didn't need it ). I can't even remember what email address my macromedia/adobe account was under, it might even be under an email address for a domain I no longer have.
I do still have the software installed on my old PC. Is there anyway I can find out the serial number of the MX I upgraded from off of the Flash 8 on there? Or it is a lost cause?
Does flash actionscript allow you to contact an arbitrary server on a specific port?I would like to stream some images live from a server using a proprietary protocol.Or does the browser disallow this for security reasons?

View 1 RepliesI am trying to move an internal app from a Windows Media Encoder-based solution to an Adobe Flex/Air solution that involves streaming video/audio. I can use the Camera and Microphone classes in Flex to access webcams, etc. but our DV cameras (connected via Firewire) don't show up in those collections.
Does anyone have any insight on how to get around this? Target platform is primarily Windows 7 (although bonus points for a solution that would also work on Mac OS X). I'm willing to consider almost anything that will expose the audio and video streams from the DV camera to the Flex app, preferably via the Camera and Microphone classes.
