Actionscript 3 :: Access A Graphic That Has Been Added To The Stage In Adobe Flash Pro (CS5)?
Sep 26, 2011I added a graphic to the stage and I need to access it from actionscript

View 1 RepliesWhen i click on a userlist, the function addTab is triggered:
private var counter:int = 0;
public function addTab():void {
var new vBox:VBox = new VBox();
var textBox:RichEditableText = new RichEditableText();
[Code]....
In another function i would like to add Rich Text to the newly created TextBox but I can not access it.
I tried getChildByName(vbox) & vbox.getChildByName(textBox) but that doesn't seem to work.
The problem I've encountered is that I am using a keyboardEventListener to make a movieclip run around. As I'm a college student, I'm creating this for an assignment but we are forced to use as3 classes.
When I run the code in the maintimeline, there is no problem. But when I try to access it from another class (with an 'Export for ActionScript' on the movieclip in question) I get an error he can't address the stage.
this.stage.addEventListener(KeyboardEvent.KEY_DOWN, dostuff);
I have a couple of buttons that slide up and down, when in the up state I add an X graphic to symbolize a a close button. However the X graphic seems to be blocking my button action.I have an example in the movie I've been working on >> here <<.There are 2 movies here, the big one if you click either blue tab you will see what I'm talking about, X button shows up, but clicking over the X area will not drop the button down. You have to click on blue button area to drop the button back down.Now I've made a smaller test movie adding the X button basically the same way and if you will notice it works fine (will animate to the right even if you click over the X graphic)Here is my code in the Big movie (I hid the tween code so it won't be so long):
function handleButtonClick(event:MouseEvent):void {
var button:MovieClip=event.target as MovieClip;
var id:Number=Number(button.name.split("button")[1]);
[code]....
How do you access an instance of a symbol created and added to the stage through the addChild(); method, from a different class?
View 3 RepliesI have encountered strange problem. I have created simple Flash text field control and I wanted to compare its content with some other string. This comparison in triggered when user is pressing the button.In Action Script 2.0 code I noticed that a caret return character () was added at the end of the string coming from the input text field.It is easy to overcome the problem obviously, however I would like to understand what is going on. I use Flash CS4 with AS 2.0.
View 1 RepliesI'm in class file right now and made a new movie clip using the linkage name
var mc = new ExampleLinkageName();
addChild(mc);
all good, I can see mc on the stage. In the ExampleLinkageName movieclip, I have a variable defined in it (on the physical timeline) called test.
In my class, I try trace(mc.test) and I get null. how I can read that variable?
I have this footer image, that I want to align to the bottom of the stage, however I'm getting errors. As you can see I have an ADDED_TO_STAGE listener in the constructor function.

I'm making a mockup for a client and I need to Load the .swf with the exact stage size so the graphic elements do not float outside the loaded movies stage area. [URL]Basic load code I'm using...
Actionscript Code:
import flash.display.*;var adLoader1:Loader = new Loader();adLoader1.load(new URLRequest("100828_budlight_texas_fight_728x90_jn.swf"));adLoader1.x = 313;adLoader1.y = 162;addChild(adLoader1);var adLoader3:Loader = new Loader();adLoader3.load(new URLRequest("100828_budlight_texas_fight_300x615_jn.swf"));adLoader3.x = 738;adLoader3.y = 0;addChild(adLoader3);
Someone told me once that every function in Flash has some associated actionscript being executed behind the scenes, e.g. converting a graphic to a symbol or drawing a pentagon on the stage. This person also told me that there is somewhere in which you can view said ActionScript as it's being executed. How can I do this? I deem such a feature necessary to do the projects I have been given, especially having very little experience with AS.

And when my loading png finally appears it looks like a poorly indexed GIF, especially on edges. Why is it happening? I'm using Bitmap class here, maybe there is something better? Can I control quality?
I have a library swf (asset.swf), it's document class binded to Asset.as, and in the Constructor function of Asset,[code]as known to all, we cannot visit the stage attribute before the display object added to the stage.so, when my loader.swf try to load asset.swf, it throws exception and the loading come to failure is there some one tell me how to load the asset.swf? I cannot modify the asset.swf.
View 0 Replieshere is a very simple code
for ( var i = 0 ; i < 10000 ; i++)
{
var mc:MovieClip = new MovieClip()
addChild(mc)
}
What is the memory accumulated by this code ? Any flash util's keyword i may use ?
Is it possible to get the stage height/width on something that isn't added to the stage?
View 1 RepliesWith the Google Maps Flash API, I want to add an event listener which fires when the Marker is added to the Map using
map.addOverlay();
Event.ADDED_TO_STAGE
is not fired, though it seems logical. What are the alternatives?
I wok on desktop Adobe AIR application. It creates .DMG for mac os builds. It is actually command line application. What I want is the ability to call it from command line - add it .../*.app/Content/MacOS to $PATH. Is there any standard way to do it with AIR ? I need it to work on Windows as well.
View 1 RepliesLet's say I have Class Holder linked to a MovieClip holder_mc. holder_mc has a child held_mc that has a Graphic Symbol pic_gr. pic_gr has multiple frames.
From the Class file of Holder, how would I change the frame of pic_gr? I also didn't see a way to name the instance of pic_gr, is that right?
Just wondering if there is any way to access the serial port directly in adobe flash ?
View 2 RepliesI want to know can we use access's database to work with flash or adobe air?
and if u have any sample of a database which work with air or flash in local
I have a class called shapeC that only creates a rectangle and then addChild(rectangle);. That class is instantiated on the main timeline. Currently, the only way you can see that rectangle is to add the instantiated class to the stage via addChild(shapeC);. My question is, is there a way that the shapeC class can add the rectangle to the root stage without requireing the instantiated class to be added to the stage?

How to get through to my MovieClips?
I want to access a clip that I dragged onto the stage , claed it mcBlocker and I am trying to access it from another clip thats in another layer but same frame and the code is inside that second clip: this is the code:
Code:
trace("::"+(this.parent as MovieClip).mcBlocker);
for(var i:int=0;i<this.stage.numChildren;i++){
[code].....
function funFun():void{
someMC:MC = new MC;
someMC.property = value;
stage.addChild(someMC);
}
How do I access the properties someMC after it is added?
I created a child that will be added on runtime. How do I access a movieclip on the mainstage from within the child?
View 1 RepliesI'm new to AS3 so please bare with me with this basic question.I have the following codes and I followed the answer from this question, but it doesn't seem to be working for me. I'm not getting an error or getting a trace response.
Basically I need to access this test_mc inside the added child. Am I doing something wrong?

I am trying for moving a graphic across the stage, using a png image of a vehicle created in photoshop. Top to bottom travel takes 2 secs and stage is 767 pixels height.24fps is default and I have timeline at 48 frames long.Test movie sees very noticeable jerkiness in the motion, I expected one smooth movement up the screen, I sort of see two windscreens etc. Now I seem to recall that 25fps in video editing sees smooth motion as the human eye cant't perceive individual frames at that rate. What should I be doing to get a png to run smooth ?I tried doubling the fps and timeline length, it got a bit better, I kept doubling such and each time it improved, I hit the limit at 120fps. Its acceptable now but that seems wrong to have to do that, Timeline is going to be massive as actual movie to be 20 secs. Are there settings to be made somewhere to smooth things and use 24fps ?Png is 20kb, background image is 1.28Mb as a png. Envirographics
View 5 RepliesI'm trying to access a movie clip on stage but my event listener doesn't seem to respond to the added to stage event. I've checked the code and it seems to be correct but just doesn't work. the movieclip i'm trying to trace is sb.

I have created a loop to instantiate tiles on a board. In the following example, "Gametiles" is an array containing objects of class "Tile" which is a class that extends MovieClip. "Game" is a MC that I added to the stage in the flash developing environment.[code]This method is a bit cumbersome though. I really don't want to have to create a var and call getChildByName every time I want to interact with these properties or methods. How can I set up these children so that I can access them directly without the extra steps?
View 1 Replies've been trying to figure out how to refer to the stage from a Sprite before it is added to the stage.
I'm working on a small program in which I plan to use external classes for each "window" that comes up. I've made the window classes extensions of Sprite. I'd like to make this window add itself to the stage when its constructor is called, and then just remove it from the window class when I'm finished with it. Is this a good idea? I'll post some of my code to show you what I mean.
This code doesn't work. I get the error "type was not found or was not a compile-time constant: Stage"
From my window class:
ActionScript Code:
public class PlayerSelectionWindow extends Sprite{
var stg:Stage;

I'm looking for ways to use movieclips that I've added on the stage in ActionScript. I can't just adress the movieclip by its name because apparently AS3 won't recognize a movieclip name if you haven't created it within the script.
The way I'm going about it now is to check the instance names of every child on the stage (with a for-loop from 0 to numChildren) and if the name starts with a certain text, I create a movieclip in ActionScript like so[code]...
