Flex :: Adobe Air - Create / Read User Preferences XML
Mar 15, 2012
I need to create and read a user preferences XML file with Adobe Air. It will contain around 30 nodes.

What's a good method to do this?
What's the standard way of storing user preferences in a Flex application for AIR? I need to store simple parameters like lists of recently opened files, window positions and sizes etc.
I am using Flash builder 4 to both build and manage (via cvs) projects. In recent days my designer has been having trouble committing to CVS, leaving a project blocked. I have troubleshooted troubleshot tested CVS and it is working fine (others can commit and retrieve without a hitch).
in an effort to start from scratch - I have removed the flash builder application (dragging it to the trash, its a Mac) as well as using the uninstaller (which does not work as well as I would have thought), but on reinstall - all preferences are still there - CVS connection and all.
is there a file or set of files I can delete to reset all of the prefs for Flash Builder (built on eclipse if that helps)?
This isn't strictly a Flash-specific problem but I didn't really know the proper place to post so I went here.At any rate, we are trying to figure out how to remap Adobe's default preference folder to a non-local location.Does anyone know if there is some way to remap the Adobe preferences from the default location of "C:Documents and Settings\ %currentuser% Application DataAdobe" to something else, say "H:Adobe"?
I run a school lab with a few users on each machine. One students came up with a problem. She is always in outline view, even when the outline button in the layers panels is not punched. When I log in to the same machine, I do not have the problem. I assume the problem is in the user preferences file. We are on Windows 7. I went into AppData and deleted what I thought was the preferences file, but it continues to return.
Multiple axis creation via MXML works fine: http:[url]...
But when I'm trying dynamically create horizontal and vertical axis then I'm getting extra axes. I believe this is Adobe bug. How I can fix this behavior?
Another Adobe AIR question for you: Can we write files to the file system and leave them as read-only in Adobe AIR? In the future, we would overwrite these files (or delete them and write a new one).
Update: I tried the following approach, but I was still able to open the file, edit, and save to the file system after the process executed.
i want to read MAC address of machine from Adobe AIR. I am using flex 3 and AIR 2.how can i do thisthe main purpose is i want to install that product in only one machine
I'm trying to get two different apps to communicate through a file. I would like app 1 to append some text to a file, and app 2 to notice, and read the new bytes (not the whole file). There is an event, ProgressEvent.PROGRESS, that is supposed to fire when new data is available on a FileStream, but it only fires when I first open the file. Basically, I would like to leave the FileStream open, listening like a socket on the end of that file for changes.
An Adobe FLEX 4 object loads from a webpage and runs in the browser. The connection between browser and server is secured using SSL over HTTP (HTTPS) with a secure certificate from a valid Certificate Authority.
Can FLEX code read the secure certificate information and retrieve information such as to whome the certificate was issued, when it is valid, and for what domain it was issued, etc. ?
I am working on an AIR desktop application, and am trying to get the user's locale string. I basically need to know whether the user's locale is English or French. Capabilities.language doesn't seem to work for me, as it only displays the OS's UI language.
How can I get the user's current locale?
Once determined, I intend to set it to resourceManager.localeChain, so that the appropriate 'properties' files are used to display my UI literals.
I have a web application developed using flex and cakephp. My client need to make a desktop application of that web application using Adobe Air. The conversion of the flex to Air is done successfully. I the flex application the communication of flex and cakephp is handled using a remotes controller. In air application I have a problem of authenticating the user with cakephp default user authentication
What is the fastest way for a Adobe AIR program program to index all images on a users' computer? Using Open Source ActionScript-3, MXML Libs and classes.
Fastest - Same pc configuration, different time (seconds) To index - get a list of absolute links (like c://bla-bla/file ) and save them into file (index.txt) All images (like JPEGs, PNGs)
Why i can not get "Apply" to activate? I have done something (likely to .actionScriptProperties) that has messed up my entire projects profile in flex...i can't even reset the default application class.
One of our application is implemented in flex and adobe air. We want to have the user press combination of keys, say 'ABC', and have the keyboard return a different character, 'FOG', to whatever app is in focus. This should work even if app has no focus.
Will it possible in Adobe Air/Flex? If yes, provide me some examples?
i am working with Flex for quite sometime. but i hadn't get any chance to even look at Adobe AIR platform. I am planning to do some personal softwares using AIR.
Provided the background that am an absolute zero in AIR, what all should I have in my system apart from Flex builder? And how fast i can learn AIR if I am pretty comfortable in Flex?
I'm having trouble creating an XML file from Air. It always seems to have some extra character in front of the first block in the xml file like this "¥". This application can read back out of the document, but if i open it with a text editor to make a change and save it, it will no longer open in my application. When I create this XML file, the whole reason I want to use an XML is so that I can possibly edit it on another computer, or in a text editor, and send it back.
Right now I'm creating the XML like this: var myXML:XML = <motor> <type>{motor.type}</type> <shopLocation>{motor.shopLocation}</shopLocation> <customer>{motor.customer}</customer> <tech>{motor.tech}</tech> [Code] .......
How to create multiple processes in Adobe Air program? Docs? Tuts? Algorithms? (for ex I have some design logic and some services client logic i want to run them in separate processes) (Air 2.0 is ok for me)
Is it possible to create create a video capture / screencast using Adobe Flex?
I would like to record any part of the users desktop (the web browser, the OS desktop, etc.) at a reasonable frame rate, record from the microphone, and then create a video file.
I would prefer doing this via Flex rather than using Java (Ex: Screencast-o-matic) or using a Windows App (Ex: Camtasia Recorder)
Does anyone know if there is an option to not create a shortcut to an AIR application after its installation?
Currently, all I have found is an option to choose the location of the application shortcut from within the start menu (in the application descriptor file, using the programMenuFolder option)
...to a totally dynamic UI based on what is returned from the DB.I've read about role-based access control and understand that it's best that the server generates the UI after a user is authenticated, but apart from re-doing the entire backend to store MXML et al., is there a better approach? Is it a bad idea to have a Permissions object that has properties like:
The components visibility and includeInLayout properties will be bound to these values. The UI will also allow a user to create new roles and set permissions. The only drawback I see is that every time a new feature is added, the app will have to be recompiled to update the bindings.
I have a hosted site with 2 different domains pointing to it,example:[url]..and [url]...Is there anyway to read the url where the user came from in flash? I could change my flash movie according to the url of the user..In ASP i use:
i have a php page, inside i include a myflash program.in myflash program i have a function to add to cart when user want to buy something..but i want if they want to click the add to cart button the user first must login to the php page.login module i put in same page with flash program..how can i make if user press the add to cart button,if he not yet login the warning box will appear tell he must login first.i can make it with javascript in php page.. but in flash i donk know how.
I have seen a few blog entries on this and have had a discussion or two with my team mates but I would like to see what the stack overflow community thinks.
So why does the Adobe Alchemy Tool create so much faster running flash byte code than the flex compiler?
Also, when will the flex compiler be able to make similar performance gains? Will it require programmer specific use of special Array's or something of that nature to get the same performance?
I make an iPhone app with Flash and it generates my app and a xml (that I don't understand if is it useful). My question is if I can read the objective-c code that Flash generates.
I need to develop, what would be like, a projector screen that the user could pull down, read what is on it, and click to "roll" back up. I know how to do the interaction with the mouse and all, but how do I make the object "grow" so it is hidden when it is "rolled" up and slowly reveals itself like a projector screen would?
how the editors work. Which will be the best way to read the code and then give the user one simple UI? I am thinking of using charCodeAt(num) == "{"? But would it be possible for me to read the code? give me example of how editors 'read' the data or point me some issues that i can look through.
