Flex :: Graphical Representation Of Data In AS3

Jun 17, 2009

I am a newbie in flex. Latest task is to generate a graph or a network based on the data input. What is the best way to do it. Also when clicked on a node of a network it should show the associated data with that node.

Flex :: Draw Multiple Graphical Objects In A Spark ItemRenderer Using MXML?

Apr 26, 2011

I would like my spark ItemRenderer to be able to render a varying number of graphical objects that depends on the user input. As an example, let's say that I want to render a set of ellipses on a line.I've been using MXML for my most recent batch of ItemRenderers and have loved every minute of it, but I'm not sure how to accomplish the above goal with an MXML IR. In Actionscript I can acquire the list of ellipses locations and draw them programmatically in the updateDisplayList method. Is there an equivalent in MXML?

Flex :: Access XML Object In Restlet 2.0 Thats Wrapped Inside A Representation Object?

Jan 7, 2010

I am developing an application with Flex for the GUI and Restlet for the webservices. I have a strange problem. I put my XML as a property on a generic object, and send it as part of a POST request. But in the Restlet webservice, this XML is irretrievable. How do I retrieve it? I tried initialising the received Representation object to a DomRepresentation, but thats not working. If I put the received Representation object into a Form object, then getFirstValue is returning that XML as a string! I noticed that the contentType of the HTTPService was application/www-form-encoded so I set it to application/xml and its not helping either. I use restlet 2.0m6 and here is the code snippet that I use -

ActionScript 2.0 :: Fancy Menu With Seven Graphical Items?

Where the item to the farthest left is largest in physical size. If someone clicks on, say, "5" in this example, 5 will scroll to the left, getting larger as it does so. As it scrolls to the left, 1,2,3 and 4 with drop off one at a time reappearing instantaneously in small size on the right of the menu. So, after someone has clicked "5" the menu will look like this:

ActionScript 3.0 :: Graphical While Scaling Skewed Text?

Oct 29, 2010

I have an isometric board. On some of these tiles there are textfields which are skewed so that the text runs parallel to the sides of the tiles. The user can zoom out giving a wider view of the board. This is done by scaling the parent tile to about 0.5 of the original size. When doing this at a certain threshold the text will no longer be parallel to the sides of the tile and will look as if the text pop's up. Does anyone have any ideas of what causes this.

ActionScript 3.0 :: UTF-16 Representation In A ByteArray REgards

Jan 17, 2010

Is there a way to write a UTF-16 string into a ByteArray in Flash/AS3? Basically I have a string (var test:String="allan"; for example) and I would like to write that into a ByteArray with UTF-16LE encoding. In this case it would be "61 00 6C 00 6C 00 61 00 6E 00".

I've tried using utf16le.writeMultiByte( clipText, "utf-16" ); but it just comes out with what appears to be UTF8 (or just straight ASCII given the test string).

The use case is to save a UTF-16LE file using FileReference.save(), which I understand I can do by passing it a ByteArray with the correct character encoding in it. Passing just a string saves as UTF-8. Hence the need to convert and store into a UTF-16LE representation in a ByteArray.

Does anyone have any idea what could be causing these bizarre artifacts in the final export?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Include A Graphical Movie Clip In An Object?

Mar 14, 2011

I am an experienced programmer, but an as3 OOP newbie. I am trying to FINALLY make the switch to authoring in OOP, but there is one hitch that I can't wrap my head aroFor my first use of OOP, I wanted to make a "Dialogue box" object that I could share among multiple applications. This consists of a rectangle graphic with two dynamic text fields and a "close" button.It seems that objects exist as ".as" files - but if I want to use graphics and textfields that I have created in the Flash UI, where do those go, and how do I refer to them? Do I have to make all my graphics programatically? Or do I have to include a copy of them in the library of every fla file that will be using my object?

Why Difference Exists In Representation Of Font In .swf

Aug 20, 2009

I am working on a software which takes .ppt as its input and produces .swf file as its output.

When I was dealing with fonts, I found there is slight difference between the representation of the text in .ppt and .swf though the font name and size are same in both.

The difference increses when I make the text bold or italic or both.

I want to know why such differerence exits?

And what should I do to make the.swf font representation same as that of .ppt?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Comparing Objects Binary Representation?

Oct 14, 2009

I have some objects that are very, very likely to be equal. I'm comparing them every second to check if they're the same as one stored in a data model on the client.Instead of having to check 5-6 data points to make sure they're equal, I would like to compare the binary to tell if they're not equal, so I can quickly overwrite the object in the collection if they do not have an identical binary representation.for example, I have the following objects:

ActionScript Code:
class tag{
var xCoord;

[code]....

So, instead of doing this sort of comparison for every member in the class

ActionScript Code:
if ( tagOne.xCoord != tagTwo.xCoord ){
swapTagsInCollection (tagOne, tagTwo);
}

I would like to do something like this.

ActionScript Code:
if ( tagOneBinary != tagTwoBinary ){
swapTagsInCollection (tagOne, tagTwo);
}

ActionScript 3.0 :: Creating Bitmap Representation Of Stage?

Nov 21, 2009

So, I want to create an effect such that each frame I :
1 ) create a bitmap representation of the stage.
2 ) reduce the bitmap's alpha to .75
3 ) remove any currently existing bitmap from stage
3 ) add new bitmap to stage.

If I'm correct in my thinking, this should effectively create the illusion that the stage is fading over time, as every time you call bitmapData.draw() the bitmap will be set at .75 alpha. This *should* mean that when I apply .75 alpha to the new bitmap that it should effectively result in a new image that is .75 * .75 alpha (.56), then on the next frame again it should be lower still (.42), and on... .31, .23, .17, and so on... But it seems that what's *actually* happening is that the new bitmap always *looks* like it's .75 alpha every frame.

ActionScript Code:
import flash.events.*;
import flash.display.*;
// draw a black box...
this.graphics.beginFill(0x000000);
this.graphics.drawRect(0,0,100,100);
this.graphics.endFill();
[Code] .....

Additionally, I've tried using stage.invalidate and doing parts of this in an Event.RENDER handler, but it didn't work either...

ActionScript 3.0 :: Convert String Representation Back To ByteArray

Oct 2, 2011

My program saves text files, which contain various text, some of which is a string representation of a ByteArray. It does this by using the toString() method of the flash.utils.ByteArray class, which I assume converts a ByteArray (for example, 13x$) into its string representation "13x$". So how do you reverse the process, and turn the string ("13x$") into a ByteArray (13x$)? Even if it's not that simple, I just need to have the ByteArray, put something in a text file, and extract from it the same ByteArray.

Professional :: Flash Player 10.2.159.1 Standalone Application CRASH With High Graphical Processing

Apr 16, 2011

Flash Player  10.2.153.1and  Flash Player  10.2.159.1 are crashing my standalone application. Later with  version 10.1 the application run ok, never crashes but was taking more than  90% CPU. The  new Flash Player solve the problem of resources, and drop down CPU to  30%, but  the application crashes always after a while, unespectly, or if I open the window of other application.

In  the other hand when I disable the harware acceleration at the swf  settings, the application goes crazy and start to make rapid flashes, and frame rate goes down to 8. [URL]. Right click on the Flash logo, Settings,then UNcheck the hardware acceleration in Display Settings.)

I'm  on a Mac Mini Core 2 Duo with Mac OS X 10.6.7 (the last Snow Leopard  these days). The graphical card is Nvidia GeForce 9400M.

I  did test the application at a Mac Book Pro core i5, Mac OS X 10.6.7,   graphica card Nvidia GeForce GT 330M and the application is more  stable but finally crashes too.

Finally if I export my application  with GPU Hardware acceleration at Publish Settings, my application  crashes almost inmediatly after I open it in each of the computers.

My guess is that the new Flash Version is using my graphical proccesor in a corrupted way.

ActionScript 3 :: Tripping Flash SWF Files To Text Representation And Back

Oct 17, 2009

I'm looking for a fail-safe way to round-trip between a Flash swf file and a text representation and back again. One strict requirement is that the resulting round-tripped Flash swf file is exactly functionally equivalent to the original Flash swf file as long as the text representation is left unchanged. Furthermore, the text representation must be human-readable and editable. It should be possible to make small changes to the the text representation (such as changing a text string or a class name, etc.) which are reflected in the resulting class file representation. Is there a fail-safe way to achieve Flash swf file/text-representation/Flash swf file round-tripping given the requirements above?

Flex :: Parent Data Calculated From Children Fields In Hierarchical Data Structure

Jun 17, 2009

In flex 3 I have a hierarchical data structure. I would like to display the content of it in a tree. My problem is that I have nodes which data calculated from children nodes. How to structure the hierarchy to make automatic changes to those parent nodes, if their children's data changed? For example:

Every node has a warning flag. If some of the children warning flag changed to true, then the parent warning flag should change automatically set to true. A node integer field is the sum of the children integer fields, and if any of the children changes, the parent integer field "calculates" the sum immediately. Is there an easy solution wit good structuring changes happen automatically, or I have to make some custom functions?

Flex :: Value In Datagrid Itemrenderers Set Data Method Doesn't Return The Correct Data?

Jan 10, 2012

I've got a Gridcolumn in a Datagrid (Spark). The Column's dataprovider is a Number value that gets updated via Binding.Now, without an item renderer the cell displays the correct values.If I set an item renderer, I can't access the values in this renderer.My renderer looks like this, so nothing really do here (for now) but to trace the value, but the value is always NaN.

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<s:GridItemRenderer xmlns:fx="http://ns.adobe.com/mxml/2009"
xmlns:s="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/spark" width="100%" height="100%" >[code].......

without the renderer, the column displays the correct values, so apparently the DefaultGridItemRenderer works fine.As requested, here is my Datagrid;

<s:DataGrid id="dataGrid" dataProvider="{_listItems}">
<s:columns>
<s:ArrayList>[code]..........

_listItems is an ArrayList with instances of a model class, which has (amongst others) a property called change of type Number.
