AS3 :: Flash Using Custom Graphical Assets In Pure Project

I created some button states in flash (swc), and I want to use them in a pure AS3 project. They are movie clips with class of neatButton_on and neatButton_off respectively. I call them like this:[code]I've also used assets, especially for different states of the same item, where I've put everything in one movie clip and then switched frames as needed. Is one way faster than the other? is there a best practice?

I'm trying to use a ComboBox control in an ActionScript 3.0 Project I've been tasked with making modifications to. I know I need to do import fl.controls.ComboBox; Now, the problem is that if I do this within the (unfamiliar) environment of FlashDevelop, I get an error. My understanding is that adding a control is a matter of feeing FlashDevelop the correct classpath, which I think I've done. Some other websites seem to indicate that if I add the control to my library this problem goes away because the act of putting it in the library links the required resources. So, how can I do the equivalent of adding to an .FLA library within FlashDevelop?

I'm getting crazy because I can't access object NativeWindow in a "ActionScript Mobile Project", no matter what I do stage.nativeWindow is always null when I test on desktop. If I create a new NativeWindow then it's the stage property that is null. Oddly enough accessing stage.NativeWindow works when deploying on blackberry playbook but not when debugging configuration Launch Method on desktop.
Can't answer my own question but it seems the feature is just unsupported on the desktop I guess the workaround is use Stage.Resize when debugging desktop. reference: The window represents the native operating system window; the Stage represents the content contained by the window. This property is only valid for content running in AIR on platforms that support the NativeWindow class. On other platforms, this property will be null. In Flash Player (content running in a browser), this property will also be null.

In Flex3, I could compile pure as3 code and use "embed" tags to load in images. This was done by Flex making a BitmapAsset class.I can still do this in Flex4.
However, there was a trick to fakeout flex3 and use my own mx.core.BitmapAsset class to remove some of the extraneous stuff Flex's BitmapAsset brings in with it. This is described here: [URL]..Unfortunately, I cannot get these tricks to work with Flex4 and get smaller file sizes. I end up with the error "VerifyError: Error #1014: Class mx.core::BitmapAsset could not be found."[URL]..Following this advice, I add -static-link-runtime-shared-libraries=true, and my swf loads without an error... but this means I am loading in the pieces of the flex framework I wanted to omit (and the file size says so too).
Is there a better way to fake out flex4 when it comes to using Embed?

I am working on this one project that has a couple of movieclips (already placed on stage) which have a custom class set to export via the Library. Each of those custom classes loads an external SWF using URLRequest().
Is it possible (or, what is the best way) to preload the whole project first, including the external SWFs?

I'm working on a AS3 project that required a lot of UI, since Flex was used for time-saving for this part we ended up having a Flex Project (UI) and pure AS3 one (All BackEnd) or, in other words, two different .swf files.Currently I can successfully comunicate both of them using a common interface and by loading the UI .swf into the AS3 .swf using a Loader class:

The actual code contains listeners for SystemManagerHandler so Flex doesn't complain.Since we are delivering two different files it is not really practical whenever we release a build of the project. For this case the meta tag [Embed] seems to be a better way to achieve this (With no satisfactory results to date).
With the above information (hopefully I made myself clear enough) what would be the best approach to ultimately generate a single swf? Or how should we properly implement the [Embed] tag for Flex swf?

I'm creating a project in flex builder but it's not using the flex framework, it's just pure actionscript.
At the moment I have some bitmap resources embedded for drawing things, but I'd like a little animation and thought I could create swf animations for them in flash and use the [Embed()] thing to embed them in the actionscript project.
This works perfectly well for me, however I'm a little concerned about efficiency and how well this approach will scale when my project gets larger.
Does anyone know if there are any efficiency implications to embedding maybe 20 or 30 swf files, or do they get efficiently integrated into the main swf file? Most of the animations are really simple and I could probably redo them in actionscript if needed but it's a lot easier just to draw them in flash and embed them.

This has been driving me nuts. I've worked with SWFObject in the past which is great. However I have a requirement not to use JavaScript. So when I try to do flashvars examples all over the net, they don't seem to work for me. Steps to repeat:
1) Create a pure AS3 project using Flex or Flash Builder
2) In the index.html wherever there is a .swf, add a name value pair suffix.
test.swf?foo=bar
3) In the constructor of the main class Sprite, trace(root.loaderInfo.parameters.foo).
Expected: bar but traces out as undefined I've tried setTimeout() to evaluate 5 seconds in the future, still doesn't work as if it's not loaded at all.

I have a Pure AS3 mobile project that I'm developing in Flex 4.5, and deploying on both Android and iOS.I have a TLF textfield that is set to editable, and when I touch on it on Android the soft keyboard shows up as expected, without me having to explicitly tell it to show up.
BUT on iOS, when I touch on it, I get the text field's focus event firing, but the soft keyboard doesn't show up. Anyone know how to make this appear, so the user can enter in text? it is possible to enter text in a pure AS3 mobile app on iOS.

I've seen that it's very simple to create a document class (a class associated to the main timeline itself), or an instance of a class which is linked to a single asset (e.g. a movie clip).But what if I need to implement a class (let's call it Main) which uses multiple assets from the Flash library? The only way I know to do this is by instantiating any asset with its linked class, and passing them all to the Main constructor like this:
ActionScript Code:

var asset2:Asset2 = new Asset2(...);
var asset3:Asset3 = new Asset3(...);

This is kind of a tedious process, especially when the composition hierarchy is long and you have to pass them all as arguments through many nested classes.For instance, I needed to link a preload sprite (the typical circle in gradient color which is constantly rotating until the load is complete) from the library to any thumbnail class of a gallery, which in turn is part of another class, which in turn is part of the main class. So I needed to pass this preload clip as an argument throughout the nested classes.

I have a Flex project in which I am embedding a Flash SWF containing an image viewer. The SWF file I'm embedding is supplemented by an XML file, which contains a list of images to show, and an images folder containing the images. The problem I'm running into is that the embedded SWF file is unable to load the pictures. I am able to see the forward/backward navigation buttons, but there are no loaded images. When I view the SWF file outside of the Flex project it works fine. Is this because Flex isn't allowing the SWF to reach outside and access other project assets?

I am using flex sdk 4.5.1 and flash develop to compile my AS3 project. I have small images, about 12KB which is silly to load them using Loader class, so embeding is better solution.
However when this line at the top of my Main class is uncomented i get blank swf[URL]..(when i comment it out, the compilated swf is ok)
What could be the error. Why do I get the blank swf?

I want an air application to be able to update the assets it uses, but minimizing the download needed, so only downloading files added since it last updated.I'm thinking this would include a server portion which would zip the needed files based on a version number? Has anyone implemented anything similar / got any thoughts on the best approach to building this sort of system?

- The Adobe documentation site requires the use of Flash CS4. (Don't know how to use this in Flex Builder)
- The embed tag method requires FLEX SDK

I am importing quicktime videos into flash from premiere (cs3) and exporting them --- however, for some odd reason (and this does not happen consistently) small pink boxes show up towards the bottom of the screen for a couple frames and then disappear in the final product (Flash file). I've exported the movie several times and sometimes they do not show up at all; other times, they are present in various places in the movie. Does anyone have any idea what could be causing these bizarre artifacts in the final export?

Flash Player 10.2.153.1and Flash Player 10.2.159.1 are crashing my standalone application. Later with version 10.1 the application run ok, never crashes but was taking more than 90% CPU. The new Flash Player solve the problem of resources, and drop down CPU to 30%, but the application crashes always after a while, unespectly, or if I open the window of other application.
In the other hand when I disable the harware acceleration at the swf settings, the application goes crazy and start to make rapid flashes, and frame rate goes down to 8. [URL]. Right click on the Flash logo, Settings,then UNcheck the hardware acceleration in Display Settings.)
I'm on a Mac Mini Core 2 Duo with Mac OS X 10.6.7 (the last Snow Leopard these days). The graphical card is Nvidia GeForce 9400M.
I did test the application at a Mac Book Pro core i5, Mac OS X 10.6.7, graphica card Nvidia GeForce GT 330M and the application is more stable but finally crashes too.
Finally if I export my application with GPU Hardware acceleration at Publish Settings, my application crashes almost inmediatly after I open it in each of the computers.
My guess is that the new Flash Version is using my graphical proccesor in a corrupted way.

I'm having a hell of a time trying to get a custom mask to work on a project I'm creating.
The mask I'm trying to use is applied as a pixel mask on a layer in the photoshop doc I'm working off, but I can't seem to figure out the proper way to get that layer mask imported into flash, to then compile into my .swc and be called from actionscript. (I'm coding in Flex)
Whats the proper workflow for getting a pixel mask imported from photoshop so that when I call:
container.mask = myMask;
It'll show up as the shape I want, and not just a square box the size of my shape?

I have a pure as3 animation which doesn't utilize the stage or the timeline. What is the best way to loop the animation with as3? To my surprise I removed the "stop();" at the end of the animation and it does not loop. I also have the HTML properties set to Loop;

I'm creating some custom components and backing code. I've created a Flex library project in Flash Builder which compiles to a SWC. The problem is now that all my MXML files get compiled into classes in the default package, making the whole thing a big mess.Is there a way to set a package declaration for MXML files? After all it just gets translated into AS3 classes. This seems to work in regular Flex projects using a namespace declaration so I'm at a loss how that is supposed to work. The other option is building out all the components in AS3 which I'd like to avoid.
