Nov 19, 2011I'm trying to make a Flex Tree Component display the children of a sprite in a hierarchical way. Moreover, dragging the items on the FlexTree would resort and reparent the items. I have special Elements set as Folders. This would allow other elements to be added there as a children by dragging an element on the tree and dropping it there. I have a failed attempt which works, but breaks when I try to add folders. Basically, it fails at reparenting the items by dragging and resorting folders and that Does anyone know of a component or something which can do this, has anyone have created any of this or could anyone give me a clue?

What prevents Silverlight MVVM to be implemented like Flex ? Doesn't Silverlight have same capability in event system to do the same? If yes why does Silverlight do things more complicated what's the advantages then ? Is it about using Class Interfaces which are more strongly typed? What are the disadvantages also ? For example as for implementing MULTIPLE VIEWS for 1 View-Model does Flex implementation make it also more obvious?

Flex :: Bubble A MouseEvent By Z-index Instead Of Hierarchy?
Feb 24, 2010I have two components being absolutely positioned within a container (they are MapSymbols on an ILOG Elixir map, if that helps). Each component is a VBox with an Image and a Label. Images have functionality tied to the Click event; labels do not.
The problem is when 2 items are positioned so that the label of one is above the icon of another in the z-index, so that the label eats any mouseOver and mouseDown events. Bubbling doesn't help since it bubbles from the label to the vbox to the container, never hitting the lower element. I can't set the vbox to mouseChildren="false", since that keeps the image from getting clicked, as well.[code]...

Flex :: Access XML Object In Restlet 2.0 Thats Wrapped Inside A Representation Object?
Jan 7, 2010I am developing an application with Flex for the GUI and Restlet for the webservices. I have a strange problem. I put my XML as a property on a generic object, and send it as part of a POST request. But in the Restlet webservice, this XML is irretrievable. How do I retrieve it? I tried initialising the received Representation object to a DomRepresentation, but thats not working. If I put the received Representation object into a Form object, then getFirstValue is returning that XML as a string! I noticed that the contentType of the HTTPService was application/www-form-encoded so I set it to application/xml and its not helping either. I use restlet 2.0m6 and here is the code snippet that I use -

Jul 2, 2011I have a structure of movieclips, which is something like:
Top Level: My character's collision movieclip, stickman_root
Second Level: On each frame of the top level, the visual part of the character, in a different pose. stickman_stand, stickman_walk, etc
Third level: in each of the poses in the second level, the character itself is built of several smaller movieclips. stickman_head, stickman_torso, stickman_upperarm_l, etc...
So having created this structure, I'd like to be able to use it as a template. I'd like to turn an instance of the toplevel into a new, unique library symbol, and similarly everything under it should also get a new unique symbol, so I can modify those as needed without messing with my template. So that I can take this stickman template, and change the graphics to create someone less stick-ish, while still retaining the skeleton and animations I made. Create unique movieclip tree from an instance?

Apr 25, 2011I am working on an StoryBoarding application,it is a slide based application in which the authors can put several components like image , sound , captions etc in each of the slide.A collection of slides will make a storyboard.This application will be deployed on a web server (sharepoint + IIS , and php+apache), and several users can collaborate with each other for authoring or reviewing the storyboard.In my application I also want to support auto save ,which will keep on storing the state of the storyboard.User can also save at any point of time by clicking the save button.I am confused about how to store the state of the storyboard.
1)Presently I am doing this by passing all the storyboard data to a dot net web-service and then that service is storing images,caption etc in their respective tables into a database .2)Another approach possible is to store the model of the application as a serialized object into the db , which will be more convenient since separating the components of the model (like images,captions etc..) will not be required and also restoring the state of the objects in the application will be easy . I have two doubts about using approach 2 :-i) I want the the saved storyboard to load quickly, for which I would like to support the partial so that lighter objects like caption can be loaded quickly but other heavier objects like image,video etc can be loaded on demand. Using approach 2 , do I have to send the whole data in one go or is there way to support partial loading ?

Data Integration :: Create A Tree Layout That A User Can Navigate?
May 12, 2009I have been given the task at work to create a interactive tree. A little like a family tree, but instead of people it will be branches (think of them as buildings). I've spent a day or so looking and finding out how to get the data from my SQL database in a format that flash can read it etc. Anyhow the problem is I don't really know where to start with the graphical aspect of it...
Each branch can have more than one child and i want the user to be able to scroll through the history of that branch, seeing it's parent branch and also it's child branches, each branch will have a certain amount of information to show. So it's almost as if i need to create a branch class and then use this and load all the data into it etc.
Should i create a new layer for each branch? Then when the user clicks a down button i just take them to a new layer? Do i create the whole thing on one layer and have navigation buttons so the user can scroll around the window and see all the other branches?
It would be nice if i could draw the damn thing at run time, and the user almost walks along lines from one branch to another, and has the option which path to take if one branch has more than one child etc.

Flex :: Performance - Why Does Use A Single Threaded Model
Jul 10, 2009Over the past few weeks I have been building a prototype application using a Flex front end connected to a J2EE backend using blazeDS. The prototype is an experiment to learn flex and see what its suitability is for a complex trading application requiring a large number of dynamic updates (i.e > 20 a second) via a pub sub type model. During some lightweight performance tests it's become apparent that I need to use multiple threads to ensure the UI remains stable when receiving a large number of updates from the server. All was going well until I discovered that flex has a single threaded programming model!
From a quick Google it looks as though there are numerous hacks to implement thread like behavior. I am sure many people must have been faced with a similar problem. Can people let me know: Are there any good threading libs that are well maintained etc Do other RIA technologies such as silverlight have the same problems. Why did abobe implement a single thread model? Are there any other tricks I can use to ensure my UI is stable.

The pages where this dialog pops up is unrelated to the data being displayed so this is a separate model. Flex :: One Data Model Multiple Platforms Different UI?
Jul 3, 2011I have designed "the core" of the application i am working on ( it communication with the server, data processing, etc. ), and now i am a bit stuck on the User Interface, because i wish it to be specific, and probably different on the different platforms it goin to run on ( PC, tablet, gsm ).
My question basically is How to separate the "core" of the application, which must remain the same for all of the platforms, from the UI's which shall be very different applications ?
