I'm currently trying to make an application and am rather new with AS3. What I'm trying to do is hide a few elements (buttons, movieclips, etc) when the flash file/swf file loads, or at least set their visible = false untill another button is clicked to turn it visible = true.
View 1 RepliesWe're currently developing a small Flash application to display our company's capabilties. This application will be stored on a small USB thumb drive that we give to our potential clients. When the thumb drive is accessed, users will see two folders "Media" and "Other"; and an SWF file entitled "Start." There is; however, one more file that displays: the interface/skin file that we used for our FLV videos (entitled "SkinUnderPlaySeekStop.swf"). If this file is not included in the same location as the main SWF file, the interface/skin will not display on the video.
We would like only the two folders and the main SWF file to be displayed on the root of the thumb drive. Is there anyway to move the interface/skin file into another folder (for example, the "Other" folder) and call it up from that location within the original FLA file?
I am having trouble figuring out how to implement TweenLite with an xml menu (jumpeye component) Im using actionscript 2 (as I figure Flash player 8 is stilll more widely used) and Im doing it in Flash CS4 with TweenLiteI have a rectangle (glass_mc) on my stage that acts as my main "window" with the menu off to one side, and both sit over a background Movieclip (stage_mc). the buttons load different external swfs into a moviecliploader. so far so good. But what I would like to do next is where I get hung up.when a button is pressed I would like to pass parameters that are stored in the xml file to the different movieclips throughout the interface.
I would like to be able to resize glass_mc to the xml specified values of height, width, alpha and color, and at the same time tween the tint of the stage_mc (again, specified in the xml). The way the component works is I have to call a function from the fla to make this all happen. Im not sure how to get TweenLite to communicate with the xml file though. or rather, Im not sure how to load the xml variables into a function that can then be read by the tween. Im stumped and I cant find any tutorials online about how to do this (Im using actionscript 2.0)
There are many tutes on the web on how to make interface elements, such as drop down menus, or accordion menus. The example Menu Class includes all the event listeners and functions. It invariably ends with the CLICK event function tracing some comment so you know it works. But no information on how to implement the Menu Class. So say you have a Main Document Class that instantiates a Menu Class. How can you pass the CLICK event back to the Main Document Class to do something with it? As far as I can see, the Menu Class can build the menu but all the listeners and functions for it have to reside in the Main Document Class. Or do you have to build a custom Class that extends the Event Class?

Myapp loads an external swf and adds it to MovieClip.External swf movie has elements that are placed outside the stage (they go on the stage during swf playing). But after loading that elements are visible in the main MovieClip.In other words, it looks like the whole space outside the stage is visible as well as the stage.How to hide elements outside the stage of loaded swf?

I want to use the swf this actionscript generates to call several different .flv files.The problem is, I don't know how to add functionality (for instance, a button) that is placed on top of the video. Seems the video is loaded ontop of everything else.

and I have this swf file with cms that I'd like for this menu to load. Currently the swf file load external text using this code:

but when the xml menu loads this swf file its structure loads but not its data.I tried using :

in the loading swf main time line but it did not work.I should also mention that the dynamic data that loads onto the swf that is to be loaded by the menu, resides not in it main time line but 4 movie clips deep .I don't know if that makes a difference or not.
I have an animated logo swf file that loads and runs once on the home page every time the page loads. The logo has been updated to appear in three different colour schemes. I want one scheme to load and when the page is refreshed or revisited, one of the other colour schemes to load in its place. They can appear in any random order, just a different one to the one that played before reloading.Can someone point me to an answer or tell me how to do it? I have found a way in JavaScript but this only works on plain images, not swf files.

View 1 RepliesI'm have a flash file which loads an xml file sub.domain.com/data.xml. It loads fine when the swf is loaded from sub.domain.com but it does not load from [URL]..It's all the same directory on the webserver. I tried using crossdomain.xml and allowed access from *.sub.domain.com. Doesn't work.
Any idea what would work? besides using php to determine the current domain (www or not) and load in the path via flashvars.
I am trying to create a XML file & a flash based interface which would:
A) Sort the data on the node specified (I tried, it doesnot sort correctly many times)
b) Search the XML nodes for the text the user inputs and display the data
Say he gets 5 results all five must be displayed.

However, if i pass in a string for the SOME_VARIABLE , is there anyway i can get the above to work? If i pass a string in i either get no error, or the fact that the datatype is incorrect. Im using an xml file to build up an interface. but the value of SOME_VARIABLE is passed in from the xml file as a string. I want to be able to detrmine which class to create from this string.
I really enjoy flashing (I just do it for fun) but I'm very slow (read:dumb) when it comes to scripting.
Currently I want to create a site where in a region (the green textblock) your cursor disappears, gets replaced by an ecliptic mask and instead of the normal textblock, you see another textblock (red in the picture above) with hopefully hilarious changes to the original text with said mask when I'm done. When you move outside of the textblock(picture, whatever) to hit the link at the end of the page, your mousecursor reverts to the one you always have and is not hidden and replaced by the mask anymore.
I got the two textblocks done, it works fine. But for the life of me i don't know how to code that the mouse cursor is ONLY hidden in the region where the text is and not everywhere.

I'm loading data into a Flash application via XML, which is in the same directory as the swf file on the server, and would like to prevent the XML from being viewed in a browser. I was assuming I could set the XML's permissions to allow Owner and Group read and prevent Others from reading (UNIX 770), but when I do that the XML won't load.
I thought about using an .htaccess file but I don't want a password dialog to pop up when the swf requests the XML. Is there a way of doing this via permissions?
I am loading my SWF file onto stage. Later, I want to hide it. For movie clips, I am using the following code:

I'm trying to generate a random background and css file using an xml document. My xml structure is as such:

The problem is, I don't want to use an array like I have it right now, because then updating it is a pain. What I want to do is retrieve the xml file, count the *pic* element and take that number and put it into a variable to multiply it by *random*. I then want to display the background file in an empty mc, as well as retrieve the *name* and *location* elements and display them in a text box. D**n this sounds complicated now.
I have a photo gallery with a navigation button that allows for additional photo categories that I don't want to appear. Unfortunately, I can't open the .fla as it appears to have been created with a newer version of Flash. The code in the config.xml file is basically:

Is there a tag I can add to make the navigation link disappear?
When I use Mouse.hide() function in the actions panel of my fla file it works, but if I use the same function in my class i got 1120: Access of undefined property cursor. error.
View 4 RepliesIf it's possible for Flash to read an XML file and look for element names rather than using myXML.firstChild.firstChild.firstChild; etc? So say I have the following:

Rather than using "firstChild.nextSibling" etc to navigate itself to the Food element, is there a way to just have something like "find the food element in the XML and return its childNodes"? It makes more sense to me this way because then it doesn't matter how you structure your XML file. And if you change the XML structure later on.. you don't then have to update the Flash as well. My reason for this is i'm using Expression Engine CMS and want to pull the data from that into Flash.
I have have applied the progress bar from the componets panel in Flash CS3 using AS2 and I have been able to make it function: however, I have not been successful in getting the progress bar to unload once my file loads. I have tried a couple of things like using an if statement and the unLoadMovieClip but I seem to be wording the code wrong because neither have worked at all, they even have cancelled out all the other code. I have one Swfloader. This swfloader loads file A.swf.On creationComplete event, File A.swf loads another swf(file B.swf).
Everything works fine when I run the application once in the same machine.But when I run two or more instance of the application, the first works fine (both file A and B are loaded) but the second swf (file B) is not loaded by file A.why the first swf (file A) doesn't load file B, when the application is running in multiple instance ?

I know how to do this once, not using a for (loop) basic parser, so, I got stuck with this simple code while I was trying to "make it" with a "loop" parser.[code]The idea is to have 2 buttons that change the number of the array sothat I can access the next XML.node without having to write all the code again, neither the dynamic recipients -movie clips- nor the parser. I am trying to figure out how to run a php file when a flash file is opened on a site or ran. the php file has no output or anything to do with the flash, it just needs to be run to update the mysql database. I need the script to be run from my site even if the flash is on another site, but i do not want to show that it is being run. I want it to be a hidden thing. Is there any way possible to do do this with flash?
View 2 RepliesFor some reason, gotoAndStop isn't working when I call it from either the main timeline of my main classes constructor. I'm guessing I need to call it once everything has loaded - but I don't what what event to fire it off on, besides a timer, which just seems bad.wrote this back when I still used the timeline and am trying not to have to rewrite it - it works, it's just hard to work on.
