Apr 26, 2007I cant get a spotlight effect with gradientfill to work right i create an object that represents the gradient and then i tween it from small to huge... and draw a box the size of the screen and fill it and on each updateMovement I redraw the gradient with a alpha 0 center and a 255 edge...but it doesnt center right at all...no matter what i do. It always is off Center...(oh Im using Stage.width/height since it needs to be dynamically resized based on browser...)

Dec 9, 2010Im attempting to make a create your own art work style piece in flash. Ive designed it out so that you first select one of 3 buttons to select which vase you wish to use as a base. However the next set of buttons relate to the colour of that object, so there are 4 options (blue, red, pink and brown) and the user selects one from clicking the appropriate button.
However im strugling to figure out how i would know which of the first options (which vase) the user has selected in the first place. Is there some kind of time line trick or script that i could use to sort this out???

Jun 26, 2004Realistic FLASH spotlight beam, not using a circular mask. I am in desperate need of some information, about realistic spotlights designed with flash. I need the kind that shoot a beam with a round circle on the floor. I have found a great example, at http://www.grisu.com and the owner even shared the fla code with me, but I still don't quite understand how to modify it to work for me. He offered to help, but he only speaks spanish and I only speak English, so we can't communicate.
If you go to his web and view the stage, the beam sweeps the stage and changes the angle and size of the beam. I need a longer and narrower beam. The length of the beam is too short for me, but the idea is just what I need. Does anyone know of any tutorials on this subject? Or possibly other samples so that I may study them in detail.
1. Is a mask necessary to keep all the beams the same length as they scan? As the angle changes, the beam length would change unless a mask or something cuts them off at the floor level always.
2. Motion tween could probably be used to move the beam?
3. Would it be necessary to skew the beam as it sweeps as when it is slanted like that, the width of the beam gets wider as it sweeps away from you and more narrow as it sweeps closer to you.
4. Did you need to use alpha anywhere possobly when the beams cross each other or maybe when it is first turned on?
I would greatly appreciate any advice anyone can give, or steer me in the correct direction for some tutorial information.

Dec 15, 2009I am adding "layer" objects to the stage with a depth value.
I have then created my own camera class. When I tell the camera to move to the right what Im actually doing is telling each layer object to move to the left.
The distance that the layer moved to the left is based on the value of its depth variable...

This works well and gives me a really nice parallax effect. The problem I'm having is that I want to be able to tell the camera to look at a movie clip on any layer but I'm having trouble figuring out how to convert the movie clips coordinates to the cameras depth.
Im trying something like this...

Aug 27, 2009I am looking to create a 'tentacle' like effect for a flash animation. A frame by frame animation is not ideal as it is arduous and not very easily manipulated.
I have attached an fla of the effect I am looking for. Ideally it would be a line that snakes in and grows thicker at the back end. I can create it in the way included in the fla but it is not very portable and i cannot overlay different tentacles.
I think that a layer mask would be good but I cannot think of a way to go about it.

It's just a plain dynamic text box.[code]FastMile is the instance name of the text box. It works OK - the mileage is incrementing by 1s. After 10 seconds, it starts to increment by 10. Still works OK.But when I want it to start incrementing by 100s, the text starts to shake and I cannot see what's going on.However, the movie stops at 76931 miles as intended.

Jan 18, 2007I want to create the drawing effect in Flash that many of us have seen on various websites.URL...I have an object already made in Fireworks. It's just a simple rounded rectangle with a 10 pixel stroke. I'm looking to draw the mask which in turn will give the impression to the user that the object is being drawn (because masks work in reverse).Right now, I have a version already done with a frame-by-frame slow erase of the mask. When played, it makes it look like the rectangle is being drawn. The problem is that it's just too shaky and jumpy. I need a more fluid animation which, like most things, can be done much better in ActionScript. I saw the Drawing API tutorial on Kirupa.com, but it doesn't show how to animate it and I definitely don't know enough AS to do it myself.

May 7, 2010I am at uni and have a project to create an interactive game for the story Johnny Mnemonic. I would like to create a game whereby the player has a whip type weapon, there is an opponent jumping up and down and with the whip you attack them and cut off limbs -
I'm thinking it would be like a simple shooting ducks style game in terms of coding, the player has visible just a hand with the whip in it, you move the whip to your desired location click chosen button to hit, the whip then animates a flick, if it hits correct spot on bouncing opponent then an animation of the limb flying off happens, so the bouncing opponent is like the duck and the whip like the gun - if that is right at all?

Apr 27, 2011When someone "click and holds" I want to fire off function over and over, say, once every 100ms while the mouse is clicked. Instead of MouseEvent.CLICK I would look for MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN and then start a timer on that event function that calls another function every 100ms. Then, on MouseEvent.MOUSE_UP I would stop the timer. Am I on the right track? Will I be able to get updated X and Y coordinates while the mousedown event is firing?
