Right so I was just wondering how I would go about creating a 'spotlight' effect on an image in flash. I want to use a background image which is only visible within the 'spotlight' (e.g. everything outwith the spotlight is just black). The spotlight must be able to be controlled by the user (I know how to do that bit at least)

View 7 RepliesI cant get a spotlight effect with gradientfill to work right i create an object that represents the gradient and then i tween it from small to huge... and draw a box the size of the screen and fill it and on each updateMovement I redraw the gradient with a alpha 0 center and a 255 edge...but it doesnt center right at all...no matter what i do. It always is off Center...(oh Im using Stage.width/height since it needs to be dynamically resized based on browser...)

View 1 RepliesI really like the text effect Pom used in the footer contest, and would like to use the same grid-type method of creating mc letters but with a different effect. i understand how to change the parameters and shapes of the letters, but can't seem to figure out which piece of code is purely for the explosion effect. basically, i want the letters but with the 'Repel' effect from[URL] here is Pom's AS:

Realistic FLASH spotlight beam, not using a circular mask. I am in desperate need of some information, about realistic spotlights designed with flash. I need the kind that shoot a beam with a round circle on the floor. I have found a great example, at http://www.grisu.com and the owner even shared the fla code with me, but I still don't quite understand how to modify it to work for me. He offered to help, but he only speaks spanish and I only speak English, so we can't communicate.
If you go to his web and view the stage, the beam sweeps the stage and changes the angle and size of the beam. I need a longer and narrower beam. The length of the beam is too short for me, but the idea is just what I need. Does anyone know of any tutorials on this subject? Or possibly other samples so that I may study them in detail.
1. Is a mask necessary to keep all the beams the same length as they scan? As the angle changes, the beam length would change unless a mask or something cuts them off at the floor level always.
2. Motion tween could probably be used to move the beam?
3. Would it be necessary to skew the beam as it sweeps as when it is slanted like that, the width of the beam gets wider as it sweeps away from you and more narrow as it sweeps closer to you.
4. Did you need to use alpha anywhere possobly when the beams cross each other or maybe when it is first turned on?
I would greatly appreciate any advice anyone can give, or steer me in the correct direction for some tutorial information.

We're building a web-based application that requires heavy image processing. We'd like this processing load to be on the client as much as possible and we'd like to support as much platforms (even mobiles) as much as possible. Here's the info: Image processing is rasterization from some data. Think like creating a PNG image from a PDF file. We don't have a lot of server power. So client-side processing is a bit of a must.
So, we're considering: Flash - most widespread, but from what i read has lackluster development tools. (and no iPhone/iPad support for now). Silverlight - allows us to use .NET CLR, so a big ++ (a lot of code is in .NET). But is not supported for most mobiles ( rumored android support in the future) HTML5 + Javascript - probably the most "portable" option. The problem is having to rewrite all that image processing code in Javascript.
Clarification: I don't need further ideas on what libraries are available for Silverlight and Javascript. My dilemma is choosing Silverlight means no support for most mobiles choosing Flash means we have to redevelop most of our code AND no iPhone/iPad support HTML5 + Javascript we have to redevelop most of our code and not fully supported yet in all browsers choosing two (Silverlight + Flash) will be too costly Any out-of-the-box or bright ideas / alternatives
I'm trying to use this effect for a flash image banner that I have, but something is missing from these instructions because when I test the movie, all I get are large white lines covering my images rather than the transparency of the mask over the image http:[url].....

How to recreate an explosion effect like Flash 8 adn MX used to have. It is not in the presets. I tried to break apart but something is missing. How can I accomplish this? I am trying to explode and IMAGE not TEXT. Particle tutorials seem to explode into hundreds of parts. I am looking for 12 to 16 exploded pieces. Again this is for an image not text so the simple Break apart doesn't seem to be working. I am Using Flash CS5.

I have searched high and low but have been unable to find a suitable solution which would work on Flash Player 7 with Actionscript 2.0. I had started to lose hope but decided to ask on this forum as a last attempt.
I have previously just flipped the movie clips then set alphas on them. However, it does not look very nice. I would prefer a gradiented mirror image.
BitmapData and Matrix classes are however not supported by Flash Player 7.

View 2 RepliesI am trying to make a image slideshow for my companies new website. I used the Flash Image Viewer plugin from Dreamweaver, but it doesn't contain the transitional effect desired.
Every tutorial I find talks about advancing the images through an interactive control, I just want the images to change by themselves and do a fade transitional effect between images. Can anyone please point me to a tutorial that has this w/o the intractive buttons? I have been looking on the internet for hours and can only find tutorials / example w/ the intractve controls.

My problem is this, if i create a mask layer with more than 1 object, when i try to move the objects (for example in different directions so the text will reveal from both sides) then i get a weird movement from the objects (like the sum of both movements i wanted) so i was think maybe a layer can contain only one moving object.So i just cant figure how can i get the effect i want.

View 5 RepliesI am trying to create an interative catalog for my small business.( I would like to do something similar to the online catalog that Kohls department store has [URL]... When the user goes to the corner, I would like the page to curl and give them the ability to turn it like a book. I would also like to keep all of my interactive scripting on each page (ie small popup box when the user rolls over an item, larger popup box when they click on an item) I am currently using Flash Pro CS5 to create the rollover/popup boxes, but do not know how to create the page curl effect. I know that InDesign can apply this effect to my pages, but am having issues with this working completely.
I have placed my flash pro cs5 .swf file (which contains my invisible buttons and scripting.) into my InDesign doc. I then export this InDesign doc as a .swf and also generate an html file. When I open the swf or html file, there is a big grey flash logo on the page. If I click on it, the page loads and I am able to interact as I would like and also turn the page with the curl effect. The problem is that every time I turn the page it loads the gray flash logo and I have to click on it again to load the page. An even bigger problem is when I embed the InDesign swf file to my webpage the gray flash logo is still there and even when I click on it, it doesnt load the page. Is there a way to get both interactivity (ie rollover/popupboxes) and the page curl effect I want? Is there a program that will make it easy for me to do both?
I'm struggling to create an effect that I thought wouldn't be to complex to complete, however several hours latter...still can not make it work.
Using Motion tween Im attempting to make an image fade up! Meaning the image slowly fades up from the bottom of the image until the whole image can be seen.
I've tried using the fade effect and adding a masked layer that's tweened, however it fades in very harshly indeed, with the line of the mask very obvious.
Is there any way that I can do this so that it looks smoother and the line is less distinctive.
