Professional :: Flashlight Or Spotlight With Extra Effect
Jul 26, 2010
I'm trying to make a flashlight effect that automatically (not mouse controlled) goes over the text and image (all on the image) and then have the flashlight beam fade then open completely to the 900x400 image and stay visible...
I am using masks to create a flashlight effect. I have managed to mask the floor of the room but cant seem to mask the aliens as im unsure what code will mask the aliens.
here is the engine.as
Code: private var thelight:light; private var theplayer:player; private var theroom:room; //private var thebug:bug;
Any good demo or tutorial on creating a hollywood style spotlight effect? 2 soft edged rays pointing down towards a 'floor' and criss crossing each other.
I cant get a spotlight effect with gradientfill to work right i create an object that represents the gradient and then i tween it from small to huge... and draw a box the size of the screen and fill it and on each updateMovement I redraw the gradient with a alpha 0 center and a 255 edge...but it doesnt center right at all...no matter what i do. It always is off Center...(oh Im using Stage.width/height since it needs to be dynamically resized based on browser...)
Right so I was just wondering how I would go about creating a 'spotlight' effect on an image in flash. I want to use a background image which is only visible within the 'spotlight' (e.g. everything outwith the spotlight is just black). The spotlight must be able to be controlled by the user (I know how to do that bit at least)
I have a circle mask over a photo. I'm trying to get it so the edges fade out to black. Currently, it just is a solid white circle. It's a movie clip and has a radial blur and is motion tweened. The alpha channel on the radial blur is 100% on the first point and 0% on the last. Can a spotlight with radial blur/fade be done without adding code or actionscript?
I've attached a photo of what I have now along with what the movieclip I'm using.
I'm on CS5, but can only use AS2, if actionscript is necessary.
I have some text content in a scrollable container and I want the user to be able to scroll it having the nice effect of it moving according to the swipe velocity and to keep scrolling until the user taps it. (as many applications for mobile touch screens).
I am thinking to combine events to do it. I will catch the swipe to know the direction, have mouse in and out to see velocity and legth of the swipe, and then keep scrolling with a proportional velocity and length until the user taps the screen.
(I donīt want to do the work and find out it was really simple and I just didn{t knew how)
I've seen people mention they can include .html, .js, etc files with their iOS for AIR publish when making an iOS application from flash. What I haven't seen is how these people include extra files (html, css, images, videos, etc) to be packaged into the IPA during publish.
I wanted to create a basic 'Countdown Timer' set for this years Christmas date using Flash CS3. I've seen online video tutorials of how to create one which I followed to the later to see if I could get the basic function working. Well it does work however there is a glitch in the countdown text field display itself when it's running.
Basically it should like the following: 36 : 14 : 30 : 52 (days, hrs, mins, secs). However, I seem to be getting an extra character (hyphens) before each set of digits making it look like this: -36 : -14 : -30 : -52
On top of that the code is supposed to include an extra "0" digit for when the countdown goes below 10 to maintain the position alignment. This doesn't seem to be working and as a result the timer continually shifts position. I've seen another example of how to create a Countdown Timer and the code is very similar (especially regarding the extra 0 digit). Why it's not displaying properly.
Here is the code for the Timer this.onEnterFrame = function() { var today:Date = new Date(); var currentYear = today.getFullYear(); var currentTime = today.getTime(); var targetDate:Date = new Date(currentYear, 11, 25); [Code] .....

Does fscommand2 work like fscommand with javascript to execute javascript commands locally? I have tried several methods and not been able to get fscommand2 to pass values back to localized javascript in a way similar to fscommand.
edit: I just realized I used FlashLight instead of Flash Lite.
after doing:"- Make a new button on the first keyframe and name it my_button - Select the keyframe not the button and open the actions panel (F9) - Attach the following code and test my_button.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK,clickHandler);
function clickHandler(event:MouseEvent):void{ navigateToURL(new URLRequest("http://www.YOUR_PAGE.com")); } "In Flash File Actionscript 3.0I get:1087: Syntax error: extra characters found after end of program. What i need to do now to make it work?
I put together an .html page using a photoshop jpg that I sliced into sections. I was asked to replace two graphics from the original .jpg file with animated content of the same size. Using my slices as a guide for size, I created the two animated graphics in flash and saved them out as .swf files. They are both the exact same size(px) as the static images. I opened my newly sliced html file in dreamweaver, deleted the static images and placed the .swf files.
For some reason the .swf files cause gaps in my html page. Tere are no borders on the .swf files and I can't figure what I've done wrong.
One note: It seems to only ad space when viewing from Mozilla. Havent' tested it on a pc yet either.[URL]
Below is code for the left hand speaker:

I posted a bit earlier about some problems I had with a game I'm trying to do.[URL].. My first and main problem is that the ennemies are going through the walls. I can do a hiTest like with the player so that the collision is detected, but I don't know how to make the ennemy change direction. I thought it would be quite simpler if the ennemies could not move simultaneously on the x and y axis, but don't know how to do it. (then they would only need to make a 90 degrees turn)
Second problem is the hitTest for detecting collisions with the ennemies. It seems like I'm not able to do it. There is the part which I thought would be good at the end of the script in commentary. Third problem, which is the least important in my eyes is that we see the ennemies even if the "flashlight" is not aimed towards them.
Realistic FLASH spotlight beam, not using a circular mask. I am in desperate need of some information, about realistic spotlights designed with flash. I need the kind that shoot a beam with a round circle on the floor. I have found a great example, at http://www.grisu.com and the owner even shared the fla code with me, but I still don't quite understand how to modify it to work for me. He offered to help, but he only speaks spanish and I only speak English, so we can't communicate.
If you go to his web and view the stage, the beam sweeps the stage and changes the angle and size of the beam. I need a longer and narrower beam. The length of the beam is too short for me, but the idea is just what I need. Does anyone know of any tutorials on this subject? Or possibly other samples so that I may study them in detail.
1. Is a mask necessary to keep all the beams the same length as they scan? As the angle changes, the beam length would change unless a mask or something cuts them off at the floor level always.
2. Motion tween could probably be used to move the beam?
3. Would it be necessary to skew the beam as it sweeps as when it is slanted like that, the width of the beam gets wider as it sweeps away from you and more narrow as it sweeps closer to you.
4. Did you need to use alpha anywhere possobly when the beams cross each other or maybe when it is first turned on?
I would greatly appreciate any advice anyone can give, or steer me in the correct direction for some tutorial information.

Recently I found out that event experienced flash developers do not know that it is possible to get "trace" content of flash movies outside of Flash IDE. This was kind of a surprise for me because I was using flash tracer for years already and I know what a pain it is when your flash application works fine in IDE and then fails fo load in browser.Are you still reading trace statements of your flash movies and applications from Flash IDE? Then this tool is for you.http:[url]....
It allows you to read all the "trace" statements of SWF files without adding any extra code! It works in Firefox, IE, Chrome, Safari, Flash IDE, Adobe AIR. Vizzy runs out-of-the-box and configures your environment for you to start debugging your flash applications immediately (automatic mm.cfg file creation, determining location, debug flash player detection, etc.)More features
* Allows you to watch trace outside of Flash IDE
* Allows you to see trace in all browsers like Internet Explorer,Firefox, Safari, Chrome, Opera and others * Allows you to see trace in AIR applications
* Cross-platform (Windows, Mac, Linux) * Customize font and font size * Automatically creates mm.cfg file * Automatically detects flashlog.txt file location * Comma separated filtering * Allows to set max limit of bytes loaded from the end of flashlog.txt * and much more...
recreate this text effect? http:[url].....Here's my version: http:[url]....
http:[url]....The trained eye can probably see that the original version looks much better. Why is that? Is there something obvious I'm doing wrong, or could this text have been made using a different technique?(whether I use Flash or Photoshop shouldn't matter as their text effects are pretty much identical)
I'm animating an atom so I have an electron circling the nucleus in the x direction. I've added a motion blur in the x direction which I like. The problem is that I'm then using AS3 to duplicate the animation and randomly rotate it. Now even though the electron is moving up and down the blur is still horizontal. Is there an easy way to fix this? I've tried making the blur a movieclip inside another movieclip but it always blurs only in the x direction.
is it possible to ad a "button effect" (different state for "normal" and "hover") to an existing button without having to do it graphically but only with a script?
i ask this because i have a flash-gallery with hundrets of thumbinails in converted to buttons that recall a javascript to open the full image (lightbox) and it would be nice to add each button a nice "hover" effect (maybe they should look dark and become normal brightness when hovered) but i don't want to edit each single button ..
In this tutorial : [URL]...it is said about something for color effect in properties pane. I can see the property pane but I can't find Color Effect. I'm using Flash Professional CS5.5. P.S.- This was my first Flash Tutorial (and that's really first one.)
Is there any way in flash 8 to creat feather effect for an object? (As there is a tool in photoshop: for a selection we can apply feather effect (from select - feather) after copy that selection to another place we gt feather effect).
I am asked to prepare an interactive and dynamic presentation in the area of enterprise architecture. The source of data should store in database. The effect I want to achieve is something as the link below. Can Flash do it (I guess so but still want to confirm)? But I could not find any similar Flash samples on the internet [URL]..
