Recently I found out that event experienced flash developers do not know that it is possible to get "trace" content of flash movies outside of Flash IDE. I've seen people mention they can include .html, .js, etc files with their iOS for AIR publish when making an iOS application from flash.
What I haven't seen is how these people include extra files (html, css, images, videos, etc) to be packaged into the IPA during publish.

if trying to debug in Flash, and for some reason some of my trace statements don't work. I believe this only happens when they're in event listeners, but it is very annoying. I am using CS5 and coding in Flash Builder 4.

As a best practice should trace statements be removed form all AS once we're on the final files? Or does it not matter and therefore best for future reference to leave them be?

I have an array that I want to shuffle but at different percentages. Like "Hello" would show up 80% in the Output window. "Bye" would show the other 20% of the time. How do I do this?

use unicode character 187 (hex:BB) or ascii character 174 as a seperation character in my mysql database.This was working great in one of my swf files but not flash keeps reading an extra character. [code]The trace output from this looks like this: 1«1.If I change the php so that it's sending a 1B1 (no special characters) it works ok.I tried using the ASCII version and the Unicode version alt-174 and alt-0187 and both return this extra %2c character.I have tried urlencode from php, but even sending a 1%BB1 provides the same results.I can't fathom why it would all of a sudden start adding extra characters. So should I change my seperation character. If so, what's recommend? If not, should I check every variables from php for this extra character and remove it?

i was woundering at the moment my website only has flash objects like navigation bar and ive just madea post saying il pay 20 pound for people to fix my errors
but while i wait for people to reply to that. i was woundering, on my flash site i want a login page relam status but i have been told i can't make them in flash, cause flash just isn't good, its only good for website images etc, not for login details etc

I want to use my own .swf button for PayPal payments with a "hidden format", but when adding the generated PayPal Website code to my html page, only a red X and the alt PayPal text is showing where the button should be. I have changed all Active X controls to Enable.Every time I contact PayPal I get a different reply. The last one was that I have to add a "static" image, but I really want to use my own button.I would rather find a way to paste the PayPal code into my buttons action script and then I only have to paste the Flash button to the html, but don't know how to manipulate that because the only code generated by PayPal is a "form" in html format. I am also adding text fields and guess that's why I don't get an generated email code from PayPal which I get if I don't add text fields.

For some reason, the data that is getting loaded into the text box is adding:

i'm working on a flex project where we load in a bunch of swf files from a zip archive using fzip. And whenever i'm running in debug mode, I get a whole bunch of trace statements saying like, [SWF] filepath - 251 bytes after decompression I'm just wondering if anyone knows how to hide these statements in the output window as there are a lot of them as i've got over 200 swf files being loaded in and these statements

For some reason, when I import my external html to my page, I'm getting extra line breaks. Even if I don't use a <br> in the line, but do a hard return, I'm getting a line break. So that's weird too. As well, it doesn't do the bold (which may be an embedding issue, as I'm using a nonstandard font. I've got the normal font embedded. of coruse, the italics works, which is weird.). What am I doing wrong?I don't think it does anything, but I've set the textbox to "render as HTML," if that effects anything.

I have an FLA file that is one frame. ActionScript 3 code runs a few functions and when you click on things, other functions run. Pretty basic...I have some buttons and sprites that I would like to use with the external.AS file found here for tool tips: [URL] for my buttons and sprites.If I save the Tool Tip code at the thread above as 'tooltip.as', how do I use that in my FLA? Since I am using an FLA with Actions in Frame 1, I'm not using 'package' keyword... it just starts with import flash.display.Sprite; and goes on to set variables and functions. I'm not using a document class.

I've recently followed a tutorial to make a scrolling thumbnail panel that goes up when you down and down when you go up. est. This has worked perfectly will the script below...However Im looking to make an alteration to this so that when you are not on "stoke" the "panel" stops moving. Its currently set to not move until you role over on to it originally, however after that when you are not on the panel it continues to move when you stroll across the rest of the page miles away from the panel.

I have been encoding 1920x1080i mov files (h.264/aac) to 1280x720p (vp6/mp3) flvs.However, when I add older HD content into the AMC que, content with non-standard presets, the program hangs.I tried to import about 15 files last night and the program just sat there all night in a 'NOT RESPONDING' state.The video's have different audio and video settings and it's little difficult to pinpoint exactly what they were.Some are 1440x1080, some are 1280x900, some have PCM audio some of mp3.Now I temporarily resolved this issue by simply using cs4 master on my mac pro which worked great.However I have noticed a huge speed increase in CS5 64bit AMC.It takes 2-3 hours to encode 1 flash video on my mac pro (dual quad core xeon 2.9Ghz/32GB ram) with CS4.It takes ~20 minutes on my windows 7 station (single core 2 quad 3Ghz/8GB ram) with CS5.
If I drop a single file into the AMC CS5 que, regardless of the resolution, frame rate, or sound codec; it will import.If I then add another file with a different resolution AMC will hang and become non-responsive.It never crashed but I can't wait 12+ hours to see if it accepted a job or not.As I said before this problem was not observed on CS4 for mac it worked flawlessly, albeit a little slow.[code]

I have created an image gallery where each "slide" is an image loaded by one UILoader component. Everything works, except I noticed that as a user it is annoying to wait for each new slide to load.So, even with my limited knowledge of AS3, I decided to figure out a way to load the next upcoming image before the user requests itone for odd numbered slides, one for even numbered slides. That way, when the user is viewing a slide with an odd number in the first loader, the next image can be loaded into the second (currently invisible) loader and ready to go when requested button would simply toggle the visibility of these two loaders.

how to use if/else and setInterval statements on the cross fade slideshow. I am trying to edit the code to have the xml slideshow loop back to the first image and play continuously. I am ok following existing code, not great at writing/editing my own. I thought I needed to work within the nextImage function, and add a slideshow (); function. I haven't been able to get it right. I am creating a website in flash CS4 and I made a contact form and when I test the site out, I can type and click the submit button, so everything is fine there but it doesn't go to anything. I've always just assumed that all trace statements in your code do not get published into your final SWF.... but then i saw "Omit Trace Actions" in the Publish menu... So, my question is this... If i do not select the "Omit Trace Actions" in the publish menu, will :
1.) My SWF filesize be bigger?
2.) My SWF run slightly slower on my website? (because it is still tracing out the statements)

In Flash/Flex, is it possible to capture the result of 'trace' in code?
So, for example, if one part of the code calls trace("foo"), I'd like to automatically capture the string "foo" and pass it to some other function.
Edit: I'm not interested in trying to use trace instead of a proper logging framework... I want to write a plugin for FlexUnit, so when a test fails it can say something like: "Test blah failed. Here is the output:
Edit 2: I only want to capture the results of trace. Or, in other words, even though my code uses a proper logging framework, I want to handle gracefully code that's still using trace for logging.
