IDE :: Making A Global String Variable Visible To MovieClips?
Jun 4, 2009
I mostly use flash for the animation, so my action script tends to be mostly functional.
I am now however having an issue, i am using a variable called language which I am setting in frame one as "dutch", "english" , "german" etc... Im then using this to set dynamic text as appropriate in each frame as necessary.(and yes i may switch this to case statements )
if (language == "dutch")
{ tcMC.peasantBubble1.peasantSpeech.text= "Bescherm je een schat?"};
My problem is however that one Movieclip does not see the language variable.
Is there anway in CS4 i can direct it to where it is, or define the varibale instead to be global (perhaps id have to change it from a string though)?
I have a problem where I make a variable in one class and change it using the constructor method in another.Is there anyway that I can make that variable available in all methods in this class? Here is the code:
I can then access it and get to to trace from anywhere like this:[code]However...I need to to go into something being converted to a string...like this...txt.load("xml/january/1.xml");Where the Janauary is replaced with the global variable. However, everything inside the quotations is being converted to strictly text, so that txt.load("xml/monthvariable/1.xml");Literally looks for the "monthvariable" folder instead of the January Folder. How can I put a variable into a string like this, so the variable is actually the variable and not the strict text?
I have a MovieClip ("mc3" that moves dynamically) inside of a MovieClip ("mc2" that moves dynamically) that is on the stage ("stage" that is static). I need to find the value of mc3's x in relation to the stage? I need to make it into a variable. I am trying to do the math, can't figure it out. Also tried localToGlobal and failed.
I am writing a simple game in which the hero will need to jump on a trampoline. The thing is there are various trampolines (set as instance name tramp1, tramp2, tramp3 etc, and only one trampoline will be active at any given time. I have set a variable _global.level which decides which trampoline is active but how do I do the hit test?
So far I have: trampland = _parent.ground.tramp2.spring.hitTest(this._x+8, this._y+32, true); if (trampland) {go and do something} But how do i tell which 'tramp' to use? I have been trying _parent.ground.tramp[_global.level].spring, But to no avail.
I've moved to actionscript 3.0 from PHP, and there are some things I just do not get. For example, making a variable name with another variable.Let's say I have movieclips called object1, object2, object3 and so on. I used Math.round() and Math.random() to get a random integer number, and I want to select one of my movieclips according to this number I get. In php, you can do this:
PHP Code: <?php $objectNumber 1;//Let's say this is a random number
var myNumberArray:Array = new Array; myNumberArray[1] = new Object; myNumberArray[1].myProperty = 10;
[Code]....
This obviously traces out the string "myNumberArray[1].myProperty", completely disregarding that there's already a variable/property called myNumberArray[1].myProperty, which has a value of its own.
Tracing out this[myStringVariable] just gives an 'undefined'.
Is there any way to get it to trace "10", using only the 'myStringVariable'? In other words, to make AS understand that myStringVariable contains the name of another variable/property?
I am trying to determine the global coordinates of the visible rectangle that is currently rendered on the stage.
Specifically, if a canvas has an explicit height and width and is a child of a panel that has a scrollbar, the scrollbar can "hide" a part of the canvas. ContentToGlobal(x,y) provides the global position of the content at the time, but content coordinates can scroll off the boundaries of the parent panel and continue to give x,y coordinates that are not visible.
Is there a way to determine the viewable rectangle that is not hidden by anything?
I'm loading an external XML file, obviously, and populating arrays with its data. There's also a variable that holds the total number of projects within the XML file because the menu they'll eventually inhabit requires the information for later "for loop" traversal. I can't seem to get globally declared variables to be visible in other code scopes.
Here's what I'm working with right now: //global array loading... _global.thumbs = []; //_global.description = []; //_global.tempClips = []; //_global.totalProjects; [Code] .....
That's just the most current incarnation. I've tried declaring the variables inside the loadXML function and outside, with later references made both omitting and maintaining the "_global" prefix all along the way.
i defined the global variable in the first frame of my file, and i can access it on other frames, however i am trying to access it within a movieclip, and flash is telling me that it is undefined. does anyone know why this could be?
I have 2 movie clips, one being loaded into a container MC via "loadMovie();"In the main movie there is a variable with no value, in the external movie there are 5 frames, each with a value to update the variable in the main movie.
IE: if on frame 1, global value = 1 / if on frame 2, global value = 2 / etc etc I'm familiar with passing variables INTO an external swf, but am stumped on how to do it the reverse way.
Is this possible AS3? I've been searching everywhere for a way to make Movieclip Instances globally accessible and haven't had any luck.I know I can make variables global by making them public and static in the class constructor, but I can't find a resource for objects.
I hear this is typically bad form, but I have a portfolio site where the entire site and it's contents change scale and position for every thumbnail.If I could make things like the BG, border, header, footer etc. globally accessible, I could change them all with a one or two global methods.
I have one button, that when clicked should display several images, one at a time. At the minute they are all just coming on together, how do i seperate the functions so they come on individually, for example like bullet points, e.g click once and image1 appears, click again and image2 appears etc... so eventually all of the images are on screen, but they don't all just appear together, if that makes sense!
The effect I'm trying to achieve is once I click on one of my six movieclips, that particular movieclip will become a global object which I can use later on. However, I am not able to complete this effect to my knowlege extend
It should work. It doesn't. Similarly does not work on buttons which are also too numerous to mention, so making them visible one at a time would be an untold hassle. I would love these five arrays to be bunched in a subarray but right now getting it to work, period, is job one.
When I was using Flash CS4, it published a HTML file that showed the text content of the movie, which made it easy for search engines to index the site. However, in Flash CS5.5, I notice it doesn't appear to do that anymore.
What do I do (step-by-step) to make my movie content visible to search engines?
Is there any way for AS3 to register when a timeline is playing?I want to make a button visible when the playhead is moving, (and invisible when it's not)
I have my main menu movieclip placed on the main stages and I use it to load some external swfs. However when I load them, the menu disappears because it is covered by the loaded swf. How can I set the depth of my top menu so that will always be visible when the external swfs are loaded? Should the depth be set on the main time line or inside the main manu movie clip? This is the code in my main menu that I am using to load the swfs but my main menu is a movie clip placed on the main timeline...
Code: var swf:MovieClip; var loader:Loader = new Loader(); var defaultSWF:URLRequest = new URLRequest("swfs/welcome.swf"); loader.load(defaultSWF); stage.addChild(loader); [Code] .....
I'm working on a Flash game (AS3) and have come to a point where I need to change the value of a global boolean variable from within a movieclip. After searching all over I have yet to find a solution. Essentially, the problem is that I have a movieclip that contains a section of animation for my game. When this movieclip is told to begin its animation, it checks these global variables to see which of six animations to play. When it finishes any of these animations, I need to set the associated variable and increase the score.
I have six movie clips positioned across the stage and a following row of six movie clips below it. All of them move up the stage and are activated with a separate key press and it works ok first time. The following times going up the stage, the fifth and sixth movie clips are not visible on the first row, but are on the second row. The following code is what I am using for each clip - just repeated and named accordingly.
Code: addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME, leftbubbleMove); function leftbubbleMove(e:Event):void { if (leftbubble_mc.y > - 150) { trace(leftbubble_mc.y); leftbubble_mc.y -=2; [Code] .....
on my main timeline there is a movieclip ("sampleMc") which contains a number of labeled frames containing movieclips of gallery images (for example "dyerBikiniMc"). in turn, each of THESE movieclips contain a number of frames of detail shots of the main image (for example "dyerBikini00Mc, dyerBikini01Mc, dyerBikini02Mc, etc.").on the main timeline i have a gallery navigation bar with thumbnail buttons determining which image will be displayed. there's also a right arrow shaped button "detailsBtn" that i'd like to allow the user to click frame-by-frame through the detail shots of the image. i also have a before/after toggle button on the main timeline that needs to control the movieclip one level below that, where the before/after images of that particular detail shot are stored!
I have a map of states state when a particular state is clicked on, the fla centers on and zooms to that state. When you click on a state a unique ID is pulled from an xml. Using this ID, I can then call all the counties that are part of this state through the county's xml which is also loaded on my stage.or example if I click on Arizona, it zooms and I get a trace of all the instance names of the counties within Arizona.
//call all instance names of Arizona counties cldcnfips=(cntXml.Records.Record.(STATE_FIPS==cldstfips).afips.children()); trace(cldcnfips);
I am looking to have the timeline continue (gotoAndPlay basically) when the movieclips in the frame are visible.I'm trying to make a simple game where the user clicks differences and they (movieclips) are made visible in a table of discovered differences.When these movieclips are visible, the timeline should continue to the congratulatory frame.I was given the following code:
I have replaced 'mc1' .etc with the instance names of the table entries recording what differences have been found. However, I don't know where to put this script (i assume it's on the frame where the movieclips become visible when differences are clicked). In addition, what do i replace 'somemovieclip' with?
This was something I looked at a while back but couldn't figure it out. Now returning to give it another go.Basically I want to find out how to check if a movieclip is visible under a mask.I've got a row of thumbs in a movieclip under a mask. Some are out with the the masked area so I've got some script to make the movieclip scroll the other thumbs into view of the masked area. Is there any code I can apply to the thumbs to check if they are in or not in view of the masked area?
