ActionScript 3.0 :: Variable Of Nested MovieClips Global Coordinates

Apr 24, 2009

I have a MovieClip ("mc3" that moves dynamically) inside of a MovieClip ("mc2" that moves dynamically) that is on the stage ("stage" that is static). I need to find the value of mc3's x in relation to the stage? I need to make it into a variable. I am trying to do the math, can't figure it out. Also tried localToGlobal and failed.

Actionscript 3 :: Convert Global Coordinates To Local Coordinates Of A UIComplenent In Flex Project?

Dec 19, 2011

I was trying to convert global coordinates to local coordinates of a UIComplenent in my flex project using below code using below code

var gp:Point = new Point(e.stageX,e.stageY); //global point
var lp:Point = uic.globalToLocal(gp); //local point

uic is UIComponent in which I have subclass of Sprite for drawing something I have set the sprite's mouseEnabled and mouseChildren to false to not interrupt the mouse event. above code is within uic's mousemove event where I was tracing the gp and lp gp was giving correct value and suprisingly lp was giving negetive values. when I move the move to the top left corner of uic i expect lp to be 0,0 but it is giving the -width of of uic. I broke my head for hours and ended up finding an alternate by using offsets. Infact my original code was much simpler like this which was same issue

var lp:Point = new Point(e.localX,e.localY);

I am not sure what exactly is causing this problem. the workaround had lot of issues and it creating a mess in my rest of the algorithms.Just now I found even more interesting thing (which is actually weird). for some reason I went and create a new lp2

var lp2:Point = new Point(e.localX,e.localY);

now surprisingly it was giving correct values as expected and I went back and changed the code as

var gp:Point = new Point(e.stageX,e.stageY); //global point
var lp:Point = uic.globalToLocal(gp); //local point
var lp2:Point = new Point(e.localX,e.localY);
var lp2:Point = uic.globalToLocal(gp);

now it is expected to have all the lp, lp2 and lp3 variables to be same but weiredly lp two is giving wrong value and lp2 and lp3 were giving correct. I am suspecting using the variable lp has something to do. I am not sure about that but above proves it so right now I am using lp2.

IDE :: Making A Global String Variable Visible To MovieClips?

Jun 4, 2009

I mostly use flash for the animation, so my action script tends to be mostly functional.

I am now however having an issue, i am using a variable called language which I am setting in frame one as "dutch", "english" , "german" etc... Im then using this to set dynamic text as appropriate in each frame as necessary.(and yes i may switch this to case statements )

if (language == "dutch")
{ tcMC.peasantBubble1.peasantSpeech.text= "Bescherm je een schat?"};

My problem is however that one Movieclip does not see the language variable.

Is there anway in CS4 i can direct it to where it is, or define the varibale instead to be global (perhaps id have to change it from a string though)?

I am writing a simple game in which the hero will need to jump on a trampoline. The thing is there are various trampolines (set as instance name tramp1, tramp2, tramp3 etc, and only one trampoline will be active at any given time. I have set a variable _global.level which decides which trampoline is active but how do I do the hit test?

So far I have:
trampland = _parent.ground.tramp2.spring.hitTest(this._x+8, this._y+32, true);
if (trampland) {go and do something}
But how do i tell which 'tramp' to use? I have been trying
_parent.ground.tramp[_global.level].spring,
But to no avail.

Flex :: Getting The Global Coordinates Of The Visible Area Of A Component?

Oct 19, 2010

I am trying to determine the global coordinates of the visible rectangle that is currently rendered on the stage.

Specifically, if a canvas has an explicit height and width and is a child of a panel that has a scrollbar, the scrollbar can "hide" a part of the canvas. ContentToGlobal(x,y) provides the global position of the content at the time, but content coordinates can scroll off the boundaries of the parent panel and continue to give x,y coordinates that are not visible.

Is there a way to determine the viewable rectangle that is not hidden by anything?

Actionscript 3.0 :: Matrix3d Local To Global Coordinates For Rotation?

Feb 4, 2010

I made a cube with as3. I wanted it to rotate in the Y Axis according to the horizontal mouse movement. It works nice when this is all I want. But if I try to also make it rotate on the X axis with the vertical mouse movement, things get screwy.

This happens because the transformations are added in the global coordinates, not the local ones. So, for Example, if I wanted the cube to rotate 30 degrees along its Y axis, I have to find a way to translate that into the global coordinates, and then apply that to the matrix3D of each face. I need a local to global translator.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Flash LocalToGlobal And GlobalToLocal - Get Value In Global Coordinates

Oct 27, 2010

I have a small problem with usage localToGlobal and than back to local. I can get global coordinate of my nested mc in question alright. Than i check if this coordinate + value of my mc.width is more than my stage width. I get to this part with no problem. Than if value is bigger (so mc is not on the stage i mean if part is off the stage i change value so it is stage width - mc.width). So i get value in global coordinates that i need. But how do i apply this to my nested clip is my question? For reference here is my code:

ActionScript 2.0 :: MovieClip Nested Within Another To Match Coordinates

Nov 17, 2006

I am trying to get a movie clip - nested inside another movie clip on the stage - to match the x, y coordinates of the mouse. Attached is an example file both in Flash 8 and MX2004 formats. I can get the drag to occur, but the problem is that the dragged mc's coordinates are relative to it's parent movie clip and not the stage. I have been messing around with localToGlobal with not much luck. I think I may be using it wrong, though. I have left it out of the example file.

Here is the relevant code:
var dragging = false;
this.onMouseMove = function() {
if (dragging == true) {
this.container.drag._x = _xmouse;
this.container.drag._y = _ymouse;
}};

ActionScript 1/2 :: Passing Coordinates Relative To Stage Into A Nested MC?

Jul 8, 2009

I am building a project where I have 15 'islands' inside one big 'ocean' movie clip. I created navigation buttons so you can explore the Ocean movie clip and look around the islands. my problem comes when i want to 'zoom into an island'

So basically on the stage i have a movie clip called- Ocean_mc, and inside it are 15 movie clips, one of them (for this example) is a movie clip called GreenIsland_mc.

when a user clicks the GreenIsland_mc it needs to expand and place itself centre stage, then when clicked again in needs to colaps back to where it came from. The problem is that when GreenIsland_mc expands it needs to expand to coordinates relative to the stage, but when I shrink it back again it need to find the original coordinates relative to its place inside the Ocean_mc movie clip.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Nested Movieclip Global Position (with Scale)

May 18, 2010

Let me try my best to explain this... On the stage I have a master movieclip, for explanation purposes, let's call this movieclip "body". Nested inside of body are several other movieclips (we'll call them anatomy items like: arm, hair, foot, etc) Now let's say we scaled body to 200% (body.scaleX = body.scaleY = 2.0)

When I run localToGlobal on one of the nested anatomy movieclips (e.g. arm), actionscript is returning the x and y values of the initial state, not reflecting the scale of body and how it actually caused the arm's position to shift globally.

Professional :: Testing Movieclips That Have Nested Movieclips?

Oct 21, 2010

I want to test mc animations without having to hit F12 to see if they work correctly. For instance, if I have an animation movieclip and then I make another movieclip and drop that aforementioned movieclip within, and animate [via the timeline or library preview] I'm unable to see on-the-fly what my animation looks like... it only shows the top most nest, unless I F12 it.

So if I have a character blinking eyes (one movieclip) and then I create another movie clip of the face, and put that aforementioned movieclip within, the preview animation within the library does not show how it'll be viewed when F12'n it.,,,, it'd be great to see your animations on the fly.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Preloader - MovieClips Get Strange Coordinates

May 18, 2003

I have a main movie where everything is in the first frame. In that frame external swfs load both into MCs and levels, plus some tweened MCs. All this works perfect without putting in a preloader. I want to have a preloader to this movie but have some minor problems with using one. I put the preloader in the first frame and move the main movie to frame 2 with a stop. The preloader works in that way that when total bytes are loaded it jumps to frame 2. The problem: When the preloader is done the main movie opens but some swfs that are loaded into levels and MCs get strange coordinates. But if I put the main movie in frame 5 and keep 2-4 empty then it works.

When this movieclip is told to begin its animation, it checks these global variables to see which of six animations to play. When it finishes any of these animations, I need to set the associated variable and increase the score.
