Jan 10, 2009
I am new at flash and am trying to create a input text box message that goes away when the user types. Here is an example of what I want to do: [URL] On the bottom right hand corner when you click on the input box, the message goes away. Is it possible to do this in flash?

I tried to create a input text that asks the user to enter a value then i wanted that value to be compared with another var by an if statement but when it gets to that part it always goes to the else condition. I did check the values by making the flash view, they are the same but its still not running as i want it to.
anyways ill leave you with the code :
variables:
btn: a button i created
maq: an empty string that stores the value of the input text
GPA.text: name of the input text
V3: is just a dynamic text to let me know if the condition is met or not
Code:
stop();
btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_UP,checker);
function checker(Event:MouseEvent):void

The goal is to have the user enter their name in the input text box and then click start. When they click start a ball starts rolling and a welcome message should display "Welcome + name". At first the ball is rolling fine and the name is displayed - but after about 3 seconds the frames sort of flip and "Welcome name" turns into just "Welcome" (name dissapears)
I'm sure it's something really dumb but my eyes are crossing.
- layer 1 is my circle image (myCircle)
- layer 2 is my button (startButton)
- layer 3 is the input field (inputName) and the dynamic field (displayName)
Here's the code:
stop();
var inputName:TextField = new TextField();
inputName.type = TextFieldType.INPUT;
inputName.x=200;
inputName.y=100;
inputName.width=150;
inputName.height=20;
inputName.border = true;
addChild(inputName);
[Code] .....

How to develop a flash file that can simulate a sms (text message) input like how you will write a message with your mobile phone. For example pressing the num '1' once, will give u 'a', twice will give u 'b', and trice will give u 'c' etc. I have an onscreen number pad, so user click the button '1' will give u 'a', twice will give u 'b' and etc. Problem is how can I detect the mouse to be how many click before they chunk out a alphabet. Also not forgetting some key like '7' need to test for 4 hit (P,Q,R,S).

I want to create an input box which directs a user to a specific frame, based on what they enter.I'm making a text-based adventure game, in homage to the ones of old, and basically, if someone enters say the word, "light" into the box, I want it to take them to the frame labelled "light".I also want the input box to respond ONLY to enter key pressing.

i created an input text box that puts the users input into a global variable, but when i test it it gives me not only what i have typed in but all the html formatting for the font that my input text box has on it.I only want the text that i have typed in to go into the variable but the wackload of html is going in there too. ive tried a few different things, rewriting my code, recreating the text box, changing settings, dont know what im missing.

I've created a form-like input to receive user input in the form of text in a frame. Now, I would like to pass that input into an external text file. I hope to get help to implement this. Let's assume that this app will be only used locally and not over the web.

I'm fairly new to Flash (over the last few months I have followed Actionscripting in books and online tutorials and can do basics by essentially following the recipes, but am having considerably more problems putting it all together for my own program).
I am trying to create a program for my students that will take their text input in fields like author, title, publisher, date, place of publication, etc. and output bibliography citations in the proper format (complete with punctuation). What is the best way to handle the text formatting to add punctuation and make the citation entries? Your text tutorial on color and other properties is very good, as well as the input text that returns the words, but how do I go one more step to add my punctuation to the user's input?

I have a text input box inside a movieclip. I want to detect when the user clicks inside and open up a modal window with the full form. I use the following line of code:
Code:
this.addEventListener(FocusEvent.FOCUS_IN, _onFocus);
And it works fine, but just the first time. When I close my modal window without entering any information and click on the input form again, nothing happens. The listener is there, but nothing happens. My guess is because the focus is already there. Should I be using another listener? MouseEvent.CLICK is not what I'm looking for because I only want the window to fire when inside the textbox is clicked, not the whole thing...
I also tried
Code:
stage.focus = null;
and it also doesn't work.

i have a question that is almost like other questions but with a small but very important difference. how can i restrict file types for user with a popup showed in the browser.
The standard file input of html can limit that with a command but it does not work in all browser so it is not an option. I do not want to validate the file extension after the user has chosen a file but before that, when he is choosing.[URL].. but it uploads the file after the user has chosen it, i do not want to do that, i want to upload it after the user submits the form.
So the problem looks like this that there are some ways of not letting the user send a not valid file but they are not good because, one is that i validate after the user have chosen the file and the other is that i upload the file before the user submits the form.
I just want a simple thing to not letting to "chose" a not valid file, it does not matter if it will be made with java script or flash, just let it work.

I'm creating simple input text field. There's a whole lot of other things going on, but basically the text field is working fine - except for one strange thing: the cursor does not advance as the user types. The result is that as the user types different characters they just stack up on top of each other. The characters don't overwrite one another, but rather just stack up in the space for the first character. Here's the part of my code that defines the text field:
Code: Select allpublic function makeTextField():void{
var myFont:Font = new BankGothicMed();
var myTextFieldFormat:TextFormat = new TextFormat();
[code]....

I'm trying to isolate words entered by the user into an "Input Text" (command). In a function that executes every time a key is pressed, I set a string, "newTxt", to the text entered.[code]This works fine; I'm able to check the string "newTxt". However, this checks the entire command rather than one word. When I replace line 2 with:[code]it freezes. In theory, it should add every letter until it reaches a space or ends, right? Could anyone find my mistake? Also, how would I go about checking for the second word (after a space)?

Currently I have an input text field in the middle of my stage "newtext01_txt". The user can obviously type whatever they wish inside of the textbox - however I also want them to be able to drag and drop the textbox wherever they want... incorporating e.target.StartDrag and e.target.StopDrag with the textbox.

I have created a simple Flash file using actionscript 2 (CS3) that allows a user to enter text into an input text field and then print the results. Now what I want to do is allow the user to save the information they've typed in a file of some sort. I would prefer a .pdf, but I'm not married to that format.
