A client has asked me to update the create for a flash widget, they have a problem with the widget displaying "Undefined" where there is no data being pulled in from the XML. What they have asked me to do is write a bit of actionscript to display "Sorry, there is no offers at the moment" instead of it dipslaying "Undefined".

I'm creating a gallery of thumbnails and main images from a loaded XML file.The initial load is fine and all is working, Thumbnails are produced in a masked movieclip and the first image is defaulted to display at start perfectly well. The gallery also has several categories in it which a user can view by clicking a button for each. eg Sites, Designs, Cards etc. Each of these categories information are held within different separate XML files. eg sites.xml, designs.xml and cards.xml etc.
Now here lies the problem. When a user clicks a new button the new XML loads the new information and the files display, but on top of the thumbnails/main images that were already present because the file that was initially open has not cleared. So what I want to do is simply remove the data that is currently being displayed, so in essence removes the images etc. Then replace those with the images from the new XML file.Is this at all possible because from searching the last week I haven't been able to find it. I guess I can't see the wood for the trees at the moment.
Let's say I have a file that loads an AS. Within that AS is an array that loads to a list menu in the main file or .fla. The list menu is used as navigation, so when the user clicks on one of the items, in the list, it goes to, let's say, frame 2. Now, on frame 2 I would like to change the information in the array in the AS so that the list menu now contains a new list of links.

Is it possible to have a textfield with a Dummy text (for animation purpose) and then replace that one text from XML? When i try to do it i only get the letters from the Dummy text to te there if the dummy text has the same or some letters that the XML text have.
If my dummy text is hello and my xml text it sweden i only see " e e " when i run the flash file.
i am using flash, .Net, and MySQL and have elements (text fields) posting in flash.Question is, if the table in the data base is not holding the var char how can I set the text field in flash to not show undefined and just be blank?

How can I save data to a text file and also append a record to data in an existing text file? I've used Authowrware previously and it was quite easy to create a large string of data (a comma separated list) and export that to a text file (and create the text file if it didn't already exist). I could then easily append additional rows of data (records) to the text file. We want to build a questionnaire that will store the data locally on the computer in a text file. Each record may have a few hundred data points in a comma separated list.

I am in the middle of making an xml driven menu. Each button has an image which loads from an external folder and 3 dynamic text fields. The content for the text fields is taken from an external XML file and I would also like the image to be defined in the XML file. The problem I am having is when I use the code attached below .I get the following error message; :
'Error opening URL
'file:///C|/Documents%20and%20Settings/barry.gee/Desktop/undefined'
However when I manually enter the image url as commented out in the attached code the image loads fine.
I cross with a problem that I do not understand why is happening. I a AS3 and php getting the results from the database. The php is working fine since I test it. but the request from the flash give me a result of "undefined" .I have a text area on the flash file in which is supposed to show the results from the php. I got a music portfolio web site running PHP, MySQL and Flash. There's a page showing all the artists my client worked for and when you click on a song title, this title is passed as a variable to a PHP page then to a Flash page. The Flash page contains an actionscript music player which then looks for the right audio file in the database and plays the song. Everything works great except for the dynamic text field which displays the song title. If the song title contains an apostrophe or a single quote, the Flash dynamic text field then shows the apostrophe.[code]

I've checked everything and all of my arrays contain the right objects so everything is kosher there. To add to the problem, this line:

does work and the only difference is that title_txt is dynamic text.Is there a difference between how dynamic text and textAreas behave in this regard?

View 6 RepliesI have a website that is all flash. I have a main file that loads in the nav and then the nav loads in the designated .swf file for each section. So there are several sections(.swf's) with lots of text taken from a database and inserted into the swf file from
an XML file. If I click in between sections, and go back to the original section of text the formatting is lost. This is only in Internet Explorer 7- this does not happen in Firefox or on the Mac.

I am trying to create a rollover where when you rollover caption0; caption1 and caption2 are displayed in sequence. Everything works except though only the first caption is ever displayed. For the other two I get "level0.caption1" and "level0.caption2" instead of the text in the xml file above. How do I parse the data so that each of the variables are assigned the text in the xml file?
