View 5 RepliesWhen using DVR with RTMP streaming the stream could/would be saved as single big file on the server, but when using HTTP streaming the stream will consist of numerous chuncked files; in this case how will the stream get saved, will FMS 4 assemble the chunks? unlikely, will the chunks of stream get saved? in this case I wonder which tool could be used to access it and make VODs of it. I'm a bit experienced with encoding video for the web (FLV, H.264) but would love to know more about HTTP Dynamic Streaming. As of now we just use a progressive download type of playing.
We recently hired a web dev and knows servers a bit but didn't seem like he knew anything about HTTP Dynamic Streaming said maybe we should search the internet for an auto detecting flash player? Anyways, is this something that I should be looking into for our organization if we do a lot of online video? If we purchased Flash Media Server would this be all we need? Is there like a Dummies book on this subject?
We recently purchased FMS4 and I'm in the midst of setting it up. However, not that it's a HUGE deal, but....
I see conflicting answers in the forums about whether or not it is possible to stream media in the HTML5 <video> tag (going back to early 2010).
Ideally, I'd like to stream (most of the time using flash), but for the specific browsers that support it, (chrome, ff, IE9, and select iOS devices) HTML5 video tags.
So, can FMS 4 do that?

If so, how? I gave it a shot using the above code (minus the "blah, blah, blah" ), and the video doesn't play - if all it is, is a syntax error, then please be so kind as to provide the correct syntax.
However, if it isn't possible unless you download something else, like the File Packager for HTTP Streaming or the Origin module for HTTP Dynamic Streaming..
Will the use of HTTP Dynamic Streaming in place of the RTMP protocol aleviate the connectivity problems experienced by users who are sitting behind restrictive corporate firewalls?

View 4 RepliesAs of Flash 10.1, they have added the ability to add bytes into the NetStream object via the appendBytes method URL...The main reason for this addition is that Adobe is finally supporting HTTP streaming of video. This is great, but it seems that you need to use the Adobe Media Streaming Server (URL...) to create the correct video chunks from your existing video to allow for smooth streaming.I have tried to do a hacked version of HTTP streaming in the past where I swap out the NetStream objects (URL...), but there is always a momentary pause between the chunks. With the new appendBytes, I tried to do a quick mock up with the two sections of video from the preceding site, but even then, the skip still remains.Does anyone know how the two consecutive .FLV files needs to be formated in order for the appendBytes method on the NetStream object to create a nice smooth video without a noticeable skip between the segments?

What do I need to do to make RTMP videos work from SAN directory on Flash Streaming Server. It works fine for http. RTMP from vod -> application folder works fine. Previuosly that server works fine but today when we tried got above message. May be some changes occur on the system as we dont have controll for that system. View 13 RepliesWe (the university I work for) want to add an IP camera to the top of a building (so it has to be IP, we can't put a machine up there, so USB is out of the question) to stream a live view of the quad. The problem is, I can't find a way to stream any IP Cameras through the flash live encoder. I tried a camera by Axis, but their capture driver only supported MJPEG which the live encoder does not.
View 3 RepliesI'm running Flash Media Streaming Server and have only been serving VOD up until now. I had my network administrator open up port 1935 to the outside world during the setup process and now I can't remember if that was actually required for streaming VOD to clients. Most documentation I've read says that this port should be open, but I seem to recall reading something at one point that suggested it wasn't necessary.
I've just started messing around with publishing live streams using Flash Media Live Encoder to the Flash Media Streaming Server. I have that working without issue but was surprised to find that no authentication is required before a client running the live encoder can publish a stream to the Flash Media Streaming Server. An authentication module is available however it only works with Flash Media Interactive Server and Flash Media Development Server.
If I leave port 1935 open to the outside world, there would be nothing to stop anybody anywhere from streaming video via my server. Anyone else running a default install of Flash Media Streaming Server and with port 1935 open to the outside should see that this is true of their setup as well. I'm wondering if I can safely close port 1935 without limiting the functionality of the server or if there's some way I can require authentication prior to publishing a live stream even though I'm not on the four-and-a-half-times-more-expensive edition of the product.
One of my clients installed FMS 3.5 and has the following issue:
a model was video chatting w/ one or more customers in a chat room. but sometimes, one customer entered her chatroom but saw blackscreen only, couldn't see model's activity, nor the video. the model did not see that customer entering the chat room either.
'URL missing from Media tag' on FMS4.5 HTTP Live Stream playback.I have spent a whole day trying in vain to publish f4m live http streams from FMLE using FMS 4.5, and almost everything I try results in the error .The F4M document contains errors URL missing from Media tag...in both Flash Media Playback and the fms videoPlayer app.Other people seem to have seen this and solved it, but I've found nothing that helps. I have tried to publish a single stream, and with multiple bitrates. For the latter, I followed the Adobe video tutorial as follows:

We are streaming a one hour F4V from streaming media server 3.5.2 and for some reason it is seeing our one hour video as being 10 hours long. We have tons of other videos and never ran into this problem in any of the other files. This is the only file that exceeds one hour. This occurs in the default player from the streaming server.
