View 10 RepliesI have gotten the vhost to work with the owner of the applications folder set to root:rootI need to allow them access to their files by cpanel and for that to work their files have tobe owned by their user name user:user well they vhosts can't be accessed unless itsroot:roo
View 3 RepliesWe are trying to setup FMS so that a section of videos for streaming are restricted to a specific network, while other videos would be available to all to stream. According to what I read, this is best restricted by means of a vhost. However, I've spent 3 days trying to get a vhost to work and am thoroughly stumped.Our current configuration for the _defaultVHost_ is: within vhost.xml, it points the apps dir to ${VHOST.APPSDIR} which points to the default install location. The VOD_DIR within fms.ini points to a separate location: d:contentflash.
View 1 RepliesIs there a way to enable a vhost without having to restart the entire fms server?It seems very horrible that you would have to kill everyone using the server to add new vhost?
View 8 Repliestell me the difference between the Allow directive in Vhost.xml file and the one in Adapter.xml file? The PDF on FMS says about Allow in Vhost.xml:"This element is a comma-delimited list of domains that are allowed to connect to this virtual host. The default value isall. If the Allow element is left empty, the only connections allowed are those coming from the same domain."
While it says the following about Adapter.xml:"A comma-delimited list of host names, domain names, and/or full or partial IP addresses from which clients canconnect to the server."I can't see any difference?I'd guess one specifies domains that hosted SWFs can connect to server from, while the other specifies client-side hosts which can connect to the server.. However it is not clear to me which is which.
I have started the vhost setup. I have cpanel on the server and I added the domain and it resolves to
the hosting account just fine pull up www.domain.com and goes to server.
I added the www.domain.com vhost. I pointed the application dir to /home/domain/public_html/applications/
I copied live over to applications dir. I setup user and pass for the virtual host login.
Does FMS 3.5.2 in development impose restrictions via the origin of connections? That is, does it only allow localhost connections via ActionScript (NetConnection) or are external connections allowed?In other words, can I have FMS in dev mode on a dedicated server and then have my client code running on a different machine that opens connections to this development server?

View 1 RepliesDoes anyone knows if it's possible to write some bytes received from an AIR or Flex client in a server side file using the File class ? I have been trying for hours without any result.My goal is to store on the server side a swf file sended by a client in a ByateArray.Here is the code I have ended with, assuming that myfile.swf alreadey exists on the server prior to the code execution, and is at the right place, and that pBytes is a ByteArray received from the client which contains a swf file :
function writeFile( pBytes )
{
var myFile = new File( "myFile.swf" );

I'm doing a test install before we update our old server to 4.03.I've got the server software installed and configured (4.03 server, using iis for web).All the test stuff on the sample index page works, except for the dynamic stream tab.I've eyeballed the .f4m file, and tried putting in a complete url to the samples...but no luck.i just keep getting the stock connection timed out message.
Where do i need to look to start confiriming where this issue may be coming from?I've made made sure I can reach all the test videos by making flash players for them, calling them via rtmp... no problems.It's got to be something dumb with either the f4m file, or the way it's being served (btw, i have added all the mime types to iis , including .f4m as video/mp4....which is one of two ways I've seen it added).
Im picking up a dedicated server it will be CentOS and be well above the minimum req for FMS 3.5 Interactive.
Question: I want to use my dedicated server for more then just the FMS. Is this possible? Basically I want to use the same server for FMS and for the file hosting of my site. Obviously I would give it a different IP but am not sure what I will need to do specifically
I develop failover fms application with server-side action script. But i have a problem that FMS can't continue to record stream with record mode "append".
Environment: FMS 4.5.1 r484 on CentOS 5.5/6.0
Goals:
I have 2 same data streams in failover application and republish primary to livepkgr application.
I have to store of last 10 hours intact recorded video (DVR).
Failover app logic:
1. I create NetConnection and NetStream to livepackager;
2. When primary stream is connected it attach the primary stream to livePackager NetStream
3. If primary stream is disconnected it reattach the backup stream to livePackager NetStream
Problem: I have testing environment. It stop primary stream every 5 min, and started primary stream 5 min after stopping.
It work's, fine, but after a few hours testing LIVEPACKAGER falls. It can't record a stream, NetStream.Record.Start -> NetStream.Record.NoAccess -> NetStream.Record.Stop
Search a solution: I try to relaunch recording process and have no success. try to shutdown/start livepackager, it's same, try to restart server, same no success.
I cant stream.clear() or record with mode "record" cause it clears my dvr cache, I cant clean stream directory in livepackager application.
[Code]....
Got a really big problem here. I keep on getting "NetConnection.Connect.Failed" when I load a .asc file on my main.asc file, i use the method load() in my code. I really don't understand why this happens, but when i comment out the code that loads the asc file, I can successfully connect to fms. I can't figure out what's happening here. Btw, i'm using fms4 in windows 7 32bit.
View 6 RepliesI've looked through the scripts in the scripts/ directory, but haven't seen anything obvious.
I would like to be able to specify the file name to capture the stream to. At present, the capture file is always named the same as the stream, which means if I stream for a bit, stop, then restart, the originally captured file gets overwritten. I'd like to be able to incorporate something, i.e. the stream start time, into the capture file name.
I do understand the differance between ssas and as3. Not all, but all most everything I see written in SSAS can be writen into a external AS3 file. This leads me to quite a few questions I'm hoping you kind people can shed some light on for me.
1) What is the advantage of writing a SSAS file over an external AS3 file?
2) Can I write an .asc file in AS3 or do I have to use AS1? Please understand I'm using tuts from fmsguru.com and the books "Learning Flash Media Server" (pdf) and "Programming Flash Communication Server". I'm not a javascript programmer so nothing I do in AS1 seems to make any sence while everything I do in AS3 does. It may not seem like it to you people that are programmers, but to those of us that aren't, AS1 and AS3 are miles apart.
3) kind of off topic, but a security question. I'm not a "hacker" and don't like the jerks that are. My question is on external AS / SSAS files and swf files. When my fla is compiled into a swf does my external AS files remain external? I assume they do, but then what is the threat of the swf being decompiled? In most projects I would do I could care less if somebody had access to my fla as long as they don't have my actionscript files.
I don't know. Maybe on questions one and two I'm getting confused becasue I'm using out dated material. Again I assume that even though fms was built off of the javascript engine it should be able to read and execute my AS3 file. Other wise what was the point of the evolution of actionscript into a fully functional programming language?
The home page of our site (URL...) uses Flash animation that was created by an agency outside of our organization. We are undergoing a site redesign and are interested in giving our Flash characters less real estate, so I am trying to determine if it is possible to make the characters smaller.I thought I might be able to do that with the height/width attribute of the object tag in the html, but I guess that would have been too easy.I know zip about Flash but do have CS3 at my disposal.Is there a way within the .fla file to make the animation smaller?
View 8 RepliesI am working on a prototype or proof of concept for my company to adopt Flash as an alternative rather than conventional HTML. I've created my demo XML file locally and followed instructions on a YouTube video (yeah I'm that new) and it all works as it should. The problem is this... I have been looking literrally for hours for a way to get my Flash file to update when the XML gets changed. Either on the fly or via some sort of timer/auto-refresh. I simply cannot wrap my head around it.
Here's my AS3 code so far:
var xmlholder:URLLoader=new URLLoader(new URLRequest("test.xml"));
xmlholder.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE,onload);

I can convert .mov to a Flash file, but I can't even get an .mpg file to open.
Is there anyways I can convert this using Flah CS3 or any freeware that exist out there?
Can Adobe Flash Media Streaming Server 3.5 run on AMD Athlon Dual Sock Quad Core?I just requested a Dell server to be added to our farm to run as a Media Server and to my surprise, while reading the requirements for FMS it states the following: 3.2GHz Intel® Pentium® 4 processor (dual Intel Xeon® or faster recommended)
View 2 RepliesI'm trying to troubleshoot a Flash Media Server working with a little video playback application I wrote a few years ago that has suddenly stopped working.I'm using CS3/Actionscript 3.My app uses the FLVPlayback Component, and was working well last time I checked. I recevied a report that the videos stopped working, and have been looking into it.I figured I'd add a bunch of event listeners to the FLVPlayback's ncMgr.netConnection so I could get debug info on things like io errors, net status, etc.The problem I'm running into is that the netConnection is null when I set it to anything on my Flash Media Server, and adding any event listeners to this netConnection throws errors.Here's what I've tried so far:
Playback of a local FLV file works fine.In the FLVPlayback documentation, I found an example and stole the URL of the stream they were using in the example, and that works fine, although it is an HTTP protocol stream rather than RTMP.Any attempt to access FLV files on my Media Server, which has worked fine in the past, basically cause the FLVPlayback object to sit and hang in "buffering" mode and never progresses beyond this point.The netConnection object in this case is null.Here's my code:[code]........
Again the purpose of this is to troubleshoot the video streaming from the Flash Media Server, and it seems like there is no netconnection to the server being created.Does this mean that the server is not working, or is there a problem with the way I'm trying to access the content on the server?This was all working fine before, and I have set up the server-side application .ASC files and such to allow things to work fine on the server end.
How can we automatically configure edge from the admin console of flash media interactive server?
View 1 RepliesI would like to know the number of connection allowed in the free developer ediiton of Flash Media Server.
View 4 RepliesI'm trying to make a software which sends video and audio data to a flash media server by using RTMP protocol. Currently, my program can communicate with a flash media server correctly. RTMP specifications does not describe about the raw data in video/audio messages, so I muxed raw H.264 and AAC data into video/audio messages and sent to the server. The server seems to accept them, but a video player cannot playback the stream sending from the server. The player just says "Loading..." For a test purpose, I sniffed the network packets between Wirecast and the flash media server and ripped off only video and audio data. Then, I muxed those data into video/audio message and sent to the flash media server. In this case, the video player connected to the server can playback the stream correctly.
I checked the stream sent from Wirecast, the stream seems not to be H.264 raw data because those data are not started from 0x17 instead of H.264 start code. With those situation, I am wondering what kind of container format I should use for H.264/AAC data to the flash media server.
I have to a problem using the Flash Media Interactive Server Feature Explorer. I want use the sample: RecordStream. I can see the instance "RecordStream" in console FMS 3.5. and show me the video in app AIR, but does not save the .FLV in my server.

View 1 RepliesI have Flash Media Streaming Server 3.5 (not Interactive) running on RHEL5.5 x86_64 Linux.All is working well, however how do I prevent unauthorized access to connecting to the live stream and streaming content?How can I setup the server to require a user and password to stream live media to the server?I am new to this product and I have been reading some documentation but I have not found a clear cut answer on how to force a username and password to connect to the server to stream live content only.I am using the Adobe FMS Apache install, what files need changing?[code]I want to lock down a person from connecting to the server on the public internet and starting a live stream?Can this be done with a user name and password?

View 8 RepliesWe purchased FMIS and we are encoding large 15+ hour MP4 recordings using flash media encoder. When opening these large files for playback, which have not been opened recently the player displays the loading indicator for up to 4 minutes! Once it has apparently been cached on the server it opens immediately from any browser even after clearing local browser cache. So a few questions for the experts
1. Why is it taking so long to load the file. Is it because the MP4 metadata is in the wrong format and the file is so huge? I read somewhere that Media Encoder records with incorrect MP4 metadata is that still the case?
2. Once its cached on the server, exactly how much of it is cached. Some of these files are larger than 500mb.
3. What fms settings do you suggest I change. FMIS is running on windows server R2 64 bit, but FMIS itself is 32 bit. We have not upgraded to the 64 bit version. We have 8GB of ram. Is it OK to set FMS cache to 3GB. And would that only have enough room for 3-4 large files, because we have hundreds of them.
is it possible fast forward, rewind video in flash media server through flash action script ?
