I have successfully been able to write some client-side ActionScript that allows me to record my webcam and mic data to my FMS server. The .flv files get saved to a directory under the applications directory. However, I need to process those flv files for a web application and would like those .flv files to be saved to the web app's directory (outside of the FMS application directory). I have tried changing the <Streams> tag in the Application.xml file that I placed in the FMS application directory, but that simply did not work.My goal is simple: to save the recorded stream data outside of the FMS application's directory. I have been going crazy trying to do this, but would like to know any pointers that any of you experts have. Can this be done? If not, how can I execute a server side PHP script after the stream is done recording. I know about using the exec() function in PHP, but am unsure as to how to execute that script via client-side actionscript.Here is the path to my FMS server (Linux OS) installation and the application directory. I've recently installed and set up a FMIS 3.5 setup and my web developer wants to have php on the server to create some dynamic content. Trouble is, I can not for the life of me get PHP to work on the server. Is there some special instructions that need to be followed with this special version of Apache that comes installed? Or is there any special reason I should use this version? If it won't hurt anything, I'm more than happy to just uninstall it and install my own Apache package, but I also don't want to limit or cause any problems in the future by doing so.
View 6 RepliesI have been testing a project with no license key(Dev) and last week I purchased a Flash Streaming license but I go into the fms.ini and insert the key and restart FMS but my streams no longer work and the only error I seem to be getting is: Found Connection Penalty (RTMFP) on core launch, penalty active since time 1294334608.351221 I remove the key and restart the service and everything works fine.
I even tried reinstalling FMS and provide it the key when it asked in the installer but same issue. Is this error related to an issue with the licensing key? There is no error when I remove the key but can't get support through contacting Adobe by phone. I asked what is the proper way to install the key and they said they would open a ticket and contact me back but its been 2 days not including the weekend, I thought it would be a very simple question for the FMS dept that I was speaking with.
Is it regarded as best practice from an Adobe point of view to uninstall FMS 4.0 before installing a new release, say FMS 4.0.2 or even FMS 4.5 (when its out).

I can stream files in the root of a NAS drive (/nas_dir), but not in any of the sub folders (/nas_dir/sub/). FMS has read/write permission to all the files on the NAS but all i get is "stream not found" when I access anything in the sub folders (streams play fine from the root of the NAS) FMS is running on rh5.4

getting started with the FMS Interactive 4.5 In the documentation it says to turn off proxying to apache on port 8134 and use port 80 in order for http dynamic and http live streaming to work properly. Since I changed Apache conf to use port 80 I assume my video root will be under webroot/vod, webroot/dvrcast_origin, etc, right?I don't see the dvrcast_origin or livepkgr folders under the webroot though. Do I just need to copy them under webroot for it work properly?

One thing that I'll need to do is authenticate users against an LDAP directory. Basically, the implementation will need to embed a Flash media player in a web page, the page also sets the server URI and stream name for the player. The player would need to ask the user for a username/password, and the server would need to make some determination about whether the user is authorized to receive the specified stream.
The advertising on Adobe's site for FMIS talks about LDAP, but on closer inspection it seems as though there's no real LDAP implementation. Instead, it seems as though there's a framework that allows for the development of an LDAP service. Is this the correct understanding? and if so, are there are any third-party plugins available commercially to handle LDAP? And if there aren't any commercial products, are there are any good resources for getting started developing one?

I am running Flash Media Streaming Server 3.5.1 r516 on a CentOS system. I also have WHM/cPanel installed on this system. My scenario is this. We have a large number of MP4 media files that are currently located in a web root directory created by cPanel: /home/mediafa/public_html/fullservices. These all work without a problem when doing progressive downloads. However, we also want to make them streamable with FMS as well. From the documentation, I should be able to create an entry in the /<fms install dir>/applications/vod/Application.xml file to look up files in that folder.
Here is my VirtualDirectory block:

However, when I try to connect to a file that is in that directory, I get a 404 error in the access.00.log file. I've tried to change the owner/group on the fullservices folder as well as the owner/group of the target file to the fms user/group, but I still cannot connect to it. The connection address is rtmp://<ipAddress>/vod/mp4:1005-03m_256k.mp4.
When I upload file using a simple uploader the file does not appear on the servers directory..Everything is working, the preloader the status text etc, as if it is uploading the file but nothing appears on the server I am not very sound in php The code goes like this:-

I have given a folder called uploads on the server and that is where files are supposed to come. Also I have given the correct name of php file which is upload.php in the fileRef.upload But its not working.
If you have an .as file in the global include directory do you have to upload it to your server with the flash file or does it compile the flash file with the included info?

That class will compile properly ONLY when it's located in my top-level directory (same dir as the .fla and Document.as files). If I move that class to a deeper directory, say com.place, and update the package statement and symbol link appropriately, the compiler will generate error "1136: Incorrect number of arguments. Expected 0."Create flash project and put a rectangle on the stage. Covert it to symbol and assign it to class TestPanel - or whatever you choose. Also configure the fla so that is uses a Document (Main) class.Create Main.as and TestPanel.as in the same folder. In the Main class, instantiate a instance of TestPanel and add it to the stage. Flash will, predictably, add the rectangle symbol and everything is fine.Now modify TestPanel so that its constructor method takes a Number and have Main.as pass some number to TestPanel.[code]You now get the error: 1136: Incorrect number of arguments.Expected 0.When I move the TestPanel.as into a deeper directory, Flash somehow is looking elsewhere for the base class for Symbol, even though I'm mapping that Symbol to com.place.TestPanel.

I'm doing a test install before we update our old server to 4.03.I've got the server software installed and configured (4.03 server, using iis for web).All the test stuff on the sample index page works, except for the dynamic stream tab.I've eyeballed the .f4m file, and tried putting in a complete url to the samples...but no luck.i just keep getting the stock connection timed out message.
Where do i need to look to start confiriming where this issue may be coming from?I've made made sure I can reach all the test videos by making flash players for them, calling them via rtmp... no problems.It's got to be something dumb with either the f4m file, or the way it's being served (btw, i have added all the mime types to iis , including .f4m as video/mp4....which is one of two ways I've seen it added).
Im picking up a dedicated server it will be CentOS and be well above the minimum req for FMS 3.5 Interactive.
Question: I want to use my dedicated server for more then just the FMS. Is this possible? Basically I want to use the same server for FMS and for the file hosting of my site. Obviously I would give it a different IP but am not sure what I will need to do specifically
Got a really big problem here. I keep on getting "NetConnection.Connect.Failed" when I load a .asc file on my main.asc file, i use the method load() in my code. I really don't understand why this happens, but when i comment out the code that loads the asc file, I can successfully connect to fms. I can't figure out what's happening here. Btw, i'm using fms4 in windows 7 32bit.

I would like to be able to specify the file name to capture the stream to. At present, the capture file is always named the same as the stream, which means if I stream for a bit, stop, then restart, the originally captured file gets overwritten. I'd like to be able to incorporate something, i.e. the stream start time, into the capture file name.
I do understand the differance between ssas and as3. Not all, but all most everything I see written in SSAS can be writen into a external AS3 file. This leads me to quite a few questions I'm hoping you kind people can shed some light on for me.
1) What is the advantage of writing a SSAS file over an external AS3 file?
2) Can I write an .asc file in AS3 or do I have to use AS1? Please understand I'm using tuts from fmsguru.com and the books "Learning Flash Media Server" (pdf) and "Programming Flash Communication Server". I'm not a javascript programmer so nothing I do in AS1 seems to make any sence while everything I do in AS3 does. It may not seem like it to you people that are programmers, but to those of us that aren't, AS1 and AS3 are miles apart.
3) kind of off topic, but a security question. I'm not a "hacker" and don't like the jerks that are. My question is on external AS / SSAS files and swf files. When my fla is compiled into a swf does my external AS files remain external? I assume they do, but then what is the threat of the swf being decompiled? In most projects I would do I could care less if somebody had access to my fla as long as they don't have my actionscript files.
I don't know. Maybe on questions one and two I'm getting confused becasue I'm using out dated material. Again I assume that even though fms was built off of the javascript engine it should be able to read and execute my AS3 file. Other wise what was the point of the evolution of actionscript into a fully functional programming language?
I've been creating components for awhile in as2- I've also been creating mxi files (which become mxp files), that tell flash where to place destination files during the installation. This all still works in CS3, except that if I want to install an as3 class file on the user's system, there is no way that I know of to specify in the mxi file to drop the class in the standard as3 classpath. So in as2, I could just use the '$flash' directive telling the mxp to put files in the configuration folder:

View 2 RepliesI'm trying to troubleshoot a Flash Media Server working with a little video playback application I wrote a few years ago that has suddenly stopped working.I'm using CS3/Actionscript 3.My app uses the FLVPlayback Component, and was working well last time I checked. I recevied a report that the videos stopped working, and have been looking into it.I figured I'd add a bunch of event listeners to the FLVPlayback's ncMgr.netConnection so I could get debug info on things like io errors, net status, etc.The problem I'm running into is that the netConnection is null when I set it to anything on my Flash Media Server, and adding any event listeners to this netConnection throws errors.Here's what I've tried so far:
Playback of a local FLV file works fine.In the FLVPlayback documentation, I found an example and stole the URL of the stream they were using in the example, and that works fine, although it is an HTTP protocol stream rather than RTMP.Any attempt to access FLV files on my Media Server, which has worked fine in the past, basically cause the FLVPlayback object to sit and hang in "buffering" mode and never progresses beyond this point.The netConnection object in this case is null.Here's my code:[code]........
Again the purpose of this is to troubleshoot the video streaming from the Flash Media Server, and it seems like there is no netconnection to the server being created.Does this mean that the server is not working, or is there a problem with the way I'm trying to access the content on the server?This was all working fine before, and I have set up the server-side application .ASC files and such to allow things to work fine on the server end.
