Professional :: Error "The Required Version Of Adobe Media Encoder Is Not Installed Or The Installation Is Damaged. Please Reinstall."?
Oct 27, 2009
I installed Flash CS4 a couple of days ago. Trying it out for the first time today. I went to import a video & got a message: "The required version of Adobe Media Encoder is not installed or the installation is damaged. Please reinstall."
I'm showing a Media Encoder CS4 folder under my Adobe folder, so I assume I've got the latest version installed, but it's a corrupt installation & I need to reinstall. My question is: do I need to redo the whole Flash CS4 installation? The reason I ask is that our IT provided me with multiple files for the install - there's ADBEFLPRCS4Win_LS1.exe. That's for the main install. But there's also a ADOBEFLPRCS4Win_Cont_LS1.exe. That's the added content file. I don't want to uninstall/reinstall Flash if I don't have to. Does anybody know if Media Encoder installs from the main Flash installation file, or from the added content installation file?

I have a problem understanding the bitrate settings when trying to encode an FLV for Flash 8 or higher, using two passes. When you choose to use two passes, you are presented with a bunch of different options, including "Minimum Bitrate [%target]", "Maximum Bitrate [%target]", and "Bitrate Variability [%target]". These are not really explained properly in the online manuals I've seen out there. Let's say you want to have a Costant bitrate (CBR) of 900 kbps, and you want to have two encoding passes, what do you set the other sliders to?
The defaults are:
Minimum Bitrate [%target] 80
Maximum Bitrate [%target] 120
Bitrate Variability [%target] 80

I have a web app that connects two computers and streams video to each other like a video conference. It currently works and also records the video in .f4v format. I am trying to figure out what I need to do to enable the client pc's to stream in H.264. Is it true that I have to use some type of encoder (like Live Encoder) to use H.264? If so, does Live Encoder have to be installed on the client computers? If that is true, is there a way to install the live encoder through our web app, configure it, and close it down when the conference is over, with no interaction from the client? Is there some type of plug-in that we could use that would eliminate the need for installing live encoder on the client computers?

I have a mp4 file that has a resolution of 640 x 360 pixels. When viewed in VLC it looks natural and in proportion. I simply want to convert the .mp4 file to an .flv file for web distribution maintaining the existing dimensions. I am attempting to do this with Adobe Media Encoder. The problem is that Adobe Media Encoder insists on converting the file to a 4:3 aspect ratio with a resolution of 480x360 pixels.Viewing the output in VLC results in a squashed out of proportion image. The output preview in Adobe Media Encoder also looks squashed. When I select the option to specify the output dimensions and manually set the resolution back to 640x360, in then adds to solid black bars on the right and left-hand sides of the video which is undesirable - aswell as making the video squashed. I have messed around with every setting and have had no joy in producing the output I require.I have a command line version of ffmpeg which is able to convert the video successfully (keeping the correct aspect ratio) using the most basic command: ffmpeg -i input.mp4 output.flv . I don't want to resort to using ffmpeg at this point. I just spent $1200 AU to upgrade to CS4 Design Premium and want to use the nice GUI I just paid for :)

Flash 8's video encoder, use to let you crop (cut x amount of pixels out) and then resize a video (and in that order it did it). CS5's Media Encoder is confusing, from what I can tell it cannot do both, you either can crop or resize but not both. ANd if you can do both, you definately cant crop before the resize. So which is it? Resizing made sense last, because you could put in new values for the resize nad figure out how much you need to crop out.

I'm on a macbook pro, osx 10.6, using CS4 Web Premium. I used to have an external monitor hooked up which had much higher resolution, so when using Adobe Media Encoder I'd click the Settings button on a video to get the Export Settings window, then stretched the Export Settings window to be the size of my external monitor. Now, I'm just using my laptop, and the export settings window does not have the resize buttons at top left to adjust it back to the size of my laptop, and the bottom third of the export settings window is getting cut off so I can't see the cancel/ok buttons etc.
I've tried re-installing media encoder (via reinstalling flash using the CDs) to try to 'reset' the window sizes, didn't fix the problem. If anyone knows of any other preferences or something I could delete to fix this,

I have been encoding 1920x1080i mov files (h.264/aac) to 1280x720p (vp6/mp3) flvs. However, when I add older HD content into the AMC que, content with non-standard presets, the program hangs.I tried to import about 15 files last night and the program just sat there all night in a 'NOT RESPONDING' state. The video's have different audio and video settings and it's little difficult to pinpoint exactly what they were. Some are 1440x1080, some are 1280x900, some have PCM audio some of mp3.Now I temporarily resolved this issue by simply using cs4 master on my mac pro which worked great. However I have noticed a huge speed increase in CS5 64bit AMC.It takes 2-3 hours to encode 1 flash video on my mac pro (dual quad core xeon 2.9Ghz/32GB ram) with CS4.It takes ~20 minutes on my windows 7 station (single core 2 quad 3Ghz/8GB ram) with CS5.
If I drop a single file into the AMC CS5 que, regardless of the resolution, frame rate, or sound codec; it will import. If I then add another file with a different resolution AMC will hang and become non-responsive.It never crashed but I can't wait 12+ hours to see if it accepted a job or not.As I said before this problem was not observed on CS4 for mac it worked flawlessly, albeit a little slow.[code]

I am using Flash CS 4, If I attempt to file>import>import video, the import video window/dialog box opens, if I browse and select a AVI.file.I receive a dialog box telling me it is in the wrong format and to use the Launch Adobe Media Encoder button to convert to proper format. This is where problem starts. An Adobe Media Encoder Debug Event dialog box opens, it states that "Adobe Media Encoder has encountered an error",ScrInit.cpp-42
the only option is to select a continue button, then an Adobe Media Encoder dialog box opens stating that "adobe media encoder has encountered a problem and must close. It wants to report the issue to Microsoft, but that doesn't help me start or repair my problem. I have created a 3 page PDF of screen images which shows the sequence of dialog boxes and messages, I have tried to locate error data files in application data files, I can find the folder but it does not contain any error txt files.

I'm having trouble getting the Adobe Media Encoder CS4 to work properly. I have tried multiple files of different lengths but end up with the same output. Nice video encoding, but the audio starts and then cuts out after a couple of seconds. The longer the video, the shorter the audio works. The logs don't report any
issues.

I recently installed Adobe Flash Professional CS5, but now any SWF I have on my computer won't play. If you double click on them the files aren't recognized by any program. A pop-up window then asks if you would like to search the net for the appropriate program. I downloaded the latest flash player, but that didn't work either.

I am having an interlacing issue when I load my .flv files up to my site. The strange thing is that when I watch them after encoding in Flash Video Encoder (with adobe AIR) the interlacing does not appear. I can't understand why the interlacing issue would appear once the videos are loaded up to the site and yet they look perfectly crisp and clear when I watch the completed .flv's in AIR. I didn't de-interlace the videos the first time I created the .flv's but that shouldn't matter since they play fine in AIR right? Of course I can go back through and de-interlace them, but I want to make sure that this is the problem before I take the time to re-encode them all.

I am trying to use the standalone Media Encoder that comes with Production Premium CS4 to convert some Quicktime reference files created by our AVID Media Composer systems. I have tried importing a QT ref that points to the AVID JFIF 2:1 media (Quicktime recognizes it as Avid Meridien Compressed 2:1) and a self-containd QT that is holding an AVID DV codec. In each case, import into the Media Encoder results in black for video. The Media Encoder that comes with CS3 works fine. Why does the Media Encoder for CS4 not?

The CS4 media encoder was quite a downstep from the simple and solid one in CS3 in terms of usability and stability. In Vista I had to deal a lot with crahes here and crashes there depending on file formats or number of passes, it could rarely get things done. Now I upgraded to Win 7. But this time I can't even encode ANYTHING. It always crashes and gives me this error: Adobe, give me a version that WORKS for all that loads of money I paid you over the years!

i was just trying out the trial version of Flash CS5 and the Media Encoder. I tried to encode some mpeg2 files as f4v, but the media encoder says it cannot decode mpeg2-files. The help topic (http:url]...) says: "Depending on what other software you have installed, the following options may be available: ... mpeg-2..."so i was wondering which piece of other software i need to use mpeg-2 as input format for the media encoder.

I cannot believe how long it is taking to encode a 3 minute video using the media encoder in CS5. I am running a Pentium Dual Core processor with 8mb of RAM and it is taking close to an HOUR to encode this 3 minute vid to a F4V 1920 x 1080 I've shut down as many processes as I can - but this is ridiculous. Am I missing something that can help speed up this process so that my news conference interviews get posted the same day that they take place????

I have a 720x576px clip (anamorphic), which I want to encode into a flv with the right aspect ratio (720x405px). In the new flash media encoder, you have three settings.
- Scale to fit
- Black borders
- Change output size
But none of those settings allows me to stretch the video to the right aspect ratio, I always get the file with 720x405, but black borders left and right.

I have the CS4: Design Premium. Everything is updated so the encoder is at verson 4.2.0.006.Now when I have some video dont for NTSC TV 720x480 (left) and I rendered (right) it using the same as source preset (9.0 or higher) and I get this big black bar on the right side of my video. I've played with the settings and resizing the video and I always get these black bars, usualy on the right and bottom of my video.I can go back to using CS3 to render my videos but they dont look as good, but I dont get a big black bar on them either.I cant seem to find any solutions with this when I do a google search. How do I get rid of these black bars?

I'm running CS5.5 on an intel Mac 10.6.5, and I have been having problems encoding to flv. All my videos are edited the same way, and using the same formats etc., yet recently I have found that when converting to .flv, some will work fine, and others will have the audio replaced by white noise.
Checking through the video specs, it appears that the one difference is that the ones which worked fine are all Apple ProRes 422 HQ files, and the ones which failed are Apple 10bit Uncompressed. The strange thing is the audio is the same for both. Yet when the encode problem happens, the video for both is fine, its just the audio where the problem appears.
