Professional :: Handling A Javascript Variable In Flash?

The following bit of javascript writes and retrieves a cookie which counts a users visits to the page. Then using swfobject it both embeds main_banner.swf and passes the cookie value "visits" to it via flashvars. The trouble is in the actionscript below; the vallue has been passed (this is certain, because the .swf shows up rather than the alternative content)- but the .swf is stuck on the first frame rather than processing the cookie and sending the user to the appropriate frame label.

how to get Javascript in an HTML page containing an FLV video to listen for cue points in the video? I understand how to get the cue points in, but most people only seem to want to handle the cue point events within Flash. I want to use Javascript to display a different text in a page element at each point. Does the method vary depending on what player you're using? How about when it's the standard Flash playback component? Does there need to be any special Actionscript in the SWF containing the FLV?

I am trying to use Javascript to intercept keyboard events, so I can do CMD-W for "close-window" and whatnot, inside a Flash application, so the Browser doesn't get to use them. Well, I am able to listen for ALT, CTRL, and CMD onKeyDown/onKeyPress events, but I am not able to listen to anything else...
Here is the code, in the index.html file from a Flex Project:
<script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript">
document.onkeydown = function(event) {applicationKeyboardHandler(event)}
document.onkeypress = function(event) {applicationKeyboardHandler(event)}
function applicationKeyboardHandler(event) {
alert("Key Pressed")
} </script>
I would like to make it so it could listen to any key press, not just alt/ctrl/cmd.

I've been using this method of file uploading for a bit, but it seems that Google Gears has poor support for the newer browsers that implement the HTML5 specs. I've heard the word deprecated floating around a few channels, so I'm looking for a replacement that can accomplish the following tasks, and support the new browsers. I can always fall back to gears / standard file POST's but these following items make my process much simpler:
Users MUST to be able to select multiple files for uploading in the dialog.I MUST be able to receive status updates on the transmission of a file. (progress bars)I would like to be able to use PUT requests instead of POST I would like to be able to easily attach these events to existing HTML elements using JavaScript. I.E. the File Selection should be triggered on a <button> click. I would like to be able to control response/request parameters easily using JavaScript.
An example of uploading code using gears:
// select some files:
var desktop = google.gears.factory.create('beta.desktop');
desktop.openFiles(selectFilesCallback);
[code]....
Edit: apparently flash isn't capable of using PUT requests, so I have changed it to a "like" instead of a "must".

I'm setting up some auto build scripts with ant and jsfl for use in Flash CS4. I have a few files that have some missing fonts. For these I just want to have the default mapping selected since the text content in question isn't displayed. I think CS5 may have an option to not display the mapping dialog, but CS4 doesn't. Anyone know if there's a jsfl method to targert this window and just select 'OK'?

I am developing an Adobe AIR application which uses both native windows and floating panels. Is is possible to enable the creation of a floating window instead of a native window when a JavaScript window.open() function is called?
It is required that all of the floating windows are contained within one native window, therefore the creation of more native windows is not suitable.
I have used a Custom HTMLHost class in order to enable the creation of a native window but I can't work out a way of creating a MDI window instead. I am using the flexMDI framework for my floating panel interface.

I recently decided to learn Actionscript. I'm taking the plunge, and jumping straight into making a fighter game with a little aid from some tutorials on a few parts of it. It's going fine, though I'm sure my form is none to great. The issue I've run into is I'm not sure how to make one class change a variable in another. The specific case is that I've got a p1 and a p2 class, and I want to be able to increase their delay when they get hit. I'd also like being able to do stun attacks, and set up a dynamically scrolling background to give the illusion of a wider playing field. I've got all the logic worked out, I just need to know how I tell the p1 class to alter a variable in p2, and vice versa.I'm using AS2 because the tutorials were designed for it. If switching to AS3 is necessary, I'll learn what I have to, but I would prefer to stay with 2 if it works.

I'm creating a quiz and as a timer in the quiz I have a flash movie (an animated clock). I poll the clock every second to see if the time for the quiz has run out.
[Code]...
First of all, it just fetches the flash movie object, and then calls some mehtods on the object. This works fine in Firefox (pc & mac), Safari (mac) but in IE8 on pc it returns 'unexpected error on line 3' (or any other line that uses the flashMovie object

I've been trying to communicate flash and javascript some time now, but I can't get Javascript to send variables to flash, just the other way around. When the .swf is done loading, it succesfully triggers the "isReady" function in Javascript, but when i try to trigger the "sendToFlash" function in Flash(via javascript), nothing happens.
"thisMovie("myID").sendToFlash(toFlash);" this is the code I can't get to work, as you see I tried these to as well;
document.getElementById("myID").sendToFlash(toFlas h);
document["myID"].sendToFlash(toFlash);
nothing triggers the code.
JAVASCRIPT
Code:
<script type="text/javascript" src="swfobject.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript">
var isIE = (navigator.appVersion.indexOf("MSIE") != -1) ? true : false;

I'm trying to pass the contents of variable playnoyes to the long line of code below to decide whether or not to autoplay the flash movie, but doing it as I have below, the resultant line of code has the variable in quotes and therefore the code doesn't execute it as expected. My question is, how can I pass the variable so that the resulting line of code doesn't have the quotes around the variable value.
var playnoyes='true';
var testtext = "<script type='text/javascript'>AC_FL_RunContent ('codebase','http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.[code]....

Basically I want Javascript to pass a variable to Flash according to resolution. I realize my syntax might be off, but something like:
HTML Code:
<script type="text/javascript" language="javascript">
if (screen.width <= 800) {
expand = "false";
[code]....
Trouble is, I'm not sure what to do from here. I don't know exactly what I need to put in the <param> and <embed> tags, and how Flash would detect if the variable was true or not.

I have a flash SWF that passes a variable as a parameter to a javascript function in my HTML page. Somehow I need to put that value of that parameter into a global variable I can use outside the html javascript function that actually receives it from the SWF function that passes it. Ultimately I will store that value in a hidden form field in the HTML so I can reuse it elsewhere.
Using an alert box, I can see my desired variable data is being passed by the AS2 function but I can't figure out a way to access it from outside the javascript function. Here's a screen print of the alert and what I see when I try to reference it outside the function. Here is a link to a screen pic that demonstrates that
This is a code snippet that starts with the javascript function that receives the variable. YES, I know the"mailLink = str" is not valid. It just demonstrates how off the mark I am.
Code:
<script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript">
var mailLink = null;
function callJavascript(str) {
[code]....

JS-to-AS3 callbacks work in kinda asynchronous way right? So for example if I ask SWF to download some file, which may take some time (depending on the size of that file), and while it downloads it, ask it to do some other operation (suppose SWF has several callbacks for various purposes), what happens in this case? Does SWF continue to download file and handle my second request in a different thread maybe, or it crashes, or throws some error? I know this is a good case for some testing, but I wonder if anyone has already done that, or maybe there is public info on the case that I cannot find?

At the moment I have a GIF image of a world map with continents hyperlinked. At the moment clicking anywhere on the map overlays a flash map of the world where the user can then choose their location. The flash applet is already in the page, with in a table, that is set to display:none. Clicking the map simply changes it to block.
Is there a way to, once the applet has been put into view, autoamtically change the scene?For example the user clicks on Asia in the GIF, I would like the flash applet to launch and then automatically move to the Asia "scene".

I'm trying to call a javascript function from within my swf and I'm having a couple of problems which are confussing me somewhat. I'm using this to call the function from flash:
ExternalInterface.call("pgcover"); I know that this is calling the function as I have set it trigger an alert action and this comes up properly. But I don't want the function to trigger an alert, this is just for testing purposes. I instead want it to change the styling on a div. I have set up a test page where I have asigned the function to a button and this works, the div display changes from block to none. When I get the swf to call the function setup to do the same thing, nothing happens.

I've got a website where I want people to be able to upload their own SWFs which are then displayed on the page - mainly for timed image displays etc...I'm concerned about javascript security as flash can call JS functions, theoretically if you knew which JS commands to call (e.g. some AJAX stuff) then external people could do some real damage.So my question is, is there anyway I can disable calling javascript from within flash? Possibly something in the embed object paramaters tags?

I have what I think is an easy question but I am having problems with it... Using AS2 / CS3, I am calling a javascript function from Flash, but i would like the value to be a variable and I cant figure out how to do it. the started code is below and I need direction on how to make "myVar" actually a variable.
var myVar = newValue_txt.text;
btnOne.onRelease = function() { getURL("javascript:testFunction('myVar') ");
}
this is a stripped down version of what i am trying to do, but i think it gets the main point across.

I have the need to change a variable in a child Flash file.
The setup is a parent Flash file, that has called a child Flash, and placed it in a movieClip.
I can send a variable using Javascript to the parent Flash file, but not directly to the child Flash file. Is there a way that I can access the child Flash file directly with Javascript?
Or do I need to send the variable to the parent Flash file, and then have the parent send the variable to the child Flash file? Is there a sort of dot notation that I can use with Javascript to get to the child Flash file without first accessing the parent, when the child is added to the parent using the loadClip function in flash?
