Apr 13, 2010At the moment I have a GIF image of a world map with continents hyperlinked. At the moment clicking anywhere on the map overlays a flash map of the world where the user can then choose their location. The flash applet is already in the page, with in a table, that is set to display:none. Clicking the map simply changes it to block.
Is there a way to, once the applet has been put into view, autoamtically change the scene?For example the user clicks on Asia in the GIF, I would like the flash applet to launch and then automatically move to the Asia "scene".

Jan 6, 2010The following bit of javascript writes and retrieves a cookie which counts a users visits to the page. Then using swfobject it both embeds main_banner.swf and passes the cookie value "visits" to it via flashvars. The trouble is in the actionscript below; the vallue has been passed (this is certain, because the .swf shows up rather than the alternative content)- but the .swf is stuck on the first frame rather than processing the cookie and sending the user to the appropriate frame label.

Flash :: Professional - Calling A Javascript Function
Jan 20, 2010I'm trying to call a javascript function from within my swf and I'm having a couple of problems which are confussing me somewhat. I'm using this to call the function from flash:
ExternalInterface.call("pgcover"); I know that this is calling the function as I have set it trigger an alert action and this comes up properly. But I don't want the function to trigger an alert, this is just for testing purposes. I instead want it to change the styling on a div. I have set up a test page where I have asigned the function to a button and this works, the div display changes from block to none. When I get the swf to call the function setup to do the same thing, nothing happens.

Professional :: Restricting Javascript Calls From Flash?
Mar 24, 2010I've got a website where I want people to be able to upload their own SWFs which are then displayed on the page - mainly for timed image displays etc...I'm concerned about javascript security as flash can call JS functions, theoretically if you knew which JS commands to call (e.g. some AJAX stuff) then external people could do some real damage.So my question is, is there anyway I can disable calling javascript from within flash? Possibly something in the embed object paramaters tags?

Using AS2 / CS3, I am calling a javascript function from Flash, but i would like the value to be a variable and I cant figure out how to do it. the started code is below and I need direction on how to make "myVar" actually a variable.

Sep 29, 2010Is it possible to pass file names from a running Flash application, which only purpose is to enable multiple-file-selection, to a JavaScript application which handles upload of all files to the server?I have examined various Flash upload solutions (like SWFUpload, Uploadify, etc.) and none of them meets my needs. I want an easy to implement solution (like Uploadify) which also lets me specify various parts of the HTTP request.
The reason I need this is because my upload form uses session cookies (for user authentication) and an CSRF token both passed to the server when uploading files.Is it technically possible to pass filenames (+ paths) to a JavaScript application which then handles the upload?

May 20, 2011Here's the challenge: I have a Flash movie which will be embedded in a page using an unknown DOM ID that I want to be able to identify/store for callback in a JS function. My ideal user flow would be: User clicks button in Flash. Flash pauses any animations / video / sounds / etc. Flash calls an injected JS function to display a page-covering overlay experience. When user closes overlay experience, a callback method on the Flash object is called. Flash resumes playback.
The problem is, when AS3 uses the ExternalInterface.call("functionName", args...) method, there doesn't seem to be a DOM event triggered, and thus it is impossible to tell which object called a JS function, so having a "registerMe()" function doesn't seem to work. Basically, the injected JS function has no way to determine which DOM object to call, because the ID of the Flash object is unknown.

So i have flash file which has a close button. on click of that i am calling this function which closes this item. So issue is? May 10, 2010With all the recent hype about JavaScript and HTML5 replacing Flash, I wanted to know - How would it be possible to protect client-side js code? Of course, it is possible to obfuscate it, but that would only make it a little harder. Also, for games which submit high scores to the server, wouldn't it be incredibly easy to modify those scores before they are sent to the server? I know even Flash files can be decompiled, but they can be obfuscated and flash decompilation is not as easy as modifying data in JS - could be done easily using a plugin such as Firebug. I'd like to know everyone's views on this.

Dec 19, 2010I have a flash file that contains a package "game" which has a class "Scores" and a method setValue(). I want to write some lines of Javascript that allow me to call that method. Someone directed me to this tutorial, but I am still a bit confused.

displays an alert to tell me that it has indeed began to execute saves the embedded flash file into a variable and sets access imports that class calls the method.I am not sure about how this class thing works? I know a Flash object can provide a javascript API to interact with it, what I dont know is can Flash send an email directly without the need to talk to the webserver to do so? Professional :: JavaScript That Comes With Publishing?
Aug 6, 2010I've just created a quick video player using the FLVPlayBack Component. When I publish, the HTML file always has a bunch of JavaScript in the <header> tab. What is this JavaScript for? I've tried to move the JavaScript into a seperate file and link it in the HTML file, but the .swf will not load. I've also tried just deleting the JavaScript, but the .swf will not load. I have found the only way to get the .swf to play is to keep the javascript in the HTML file. The problem I am looking at is I am building a webpage that will have two seperate video players, thus requiring two seperate .swf files. What I am concerned about is I'll have to have a boat load of JavaScript in the one HTML page which makes it messy. I've tried searching the internet, but not able to find much help. Is there a way around having to keep the JavaScript in the HTML file?

Aug 4, 2010AdobeTV showed a way to allow Flash to "talk" to an HTML page via javascript using the ExternalInterface method. There seems to be a catch. You need to use the ID of the swf in the parameters to have it all fit together and you can only put the ID="swf" into the IE section of the Dreamweaver generated javascript or into the non-IE section. Putting it in both didn't work and the author mentioned only putting in one of them specifically.Is there a way to do this that would work in both sets of generated Javascript?
