Cross Domain Requests : Javascript Vs Flash?

Jan 25, 2010

As you might know, browser's security model does not allow a script loaded in a page from http:[url]... to make cross-domain requests (no AJAX calls to any other domain other than url...).The Javascript file itself could have been served from a different domain altogether (url....) and that is irrelevant. This is the Same-Origin Policy.

Flash also has something similar? But does Flash treat the origin to be the HTML page where the .swf file was loaded or origin is the domain which served the .swf file?

So http:[url]... loads a .swf file from http:[url].... Now .swf can load resources only from [url].... or only [url....? I'm assuming there are no cross-domain.xml files setup on either [url]....

Flash :: Paste An Image Into Silverlight / JavaScript?

Mar 1, 2010

Is it possible to allow users to paste image data into a Website? That is, they have an image in the clipboard and can paste it into an HTML Site? (I would then somehow grab the bytes and store them - persistence isn't the problem here) It needs to be Cross-Browser IE8, FF3.5 and Chrome 4, but I can use browser plugins like Silverlight, Flash or bare JavaScript if possible (I might even use Browser Plugins, although that would be painful to manage and IE would need ActiveX is guess...). Also since it's an internal site, I can add the site to the Local Intranet Zone in IE (not sure if that changes stuff for Firefox and Chrome).

Javascript :: Silverlight And Flash Bridge Compatibility?

Dec 23, 2010

I'm developing a Silverlight4 drop-in replacement for an existing Flash client. I would like to maintain compatibility with the existing Flash HTML bridge javascript functions, but I can't figure out how to expose the javascript interface directly on the Silverlight client object instead of a contained object.

In Flash, it is possible to call Bar() directly on the client object, as in:

var flashClient = document.GetElementById(_currentFlashId);
flashClient.Bar();

But in Silverlight, I haven't found a means to call an interface directly on the Silverlight object. Instead, it appears interfaces can only be exposed on contained objects, as in:

Javascript :: Webcams In HTML5 Without Flash Or Silverlight

Dec 10, 2011

So now Adobe has pulled the plug on Mobile Flash and are pushing more for HTML5, and Silverlight has pulled the plug too, what's next for interactive video content. So if they die out (as they are currently trying to do) how do we access web cams (or even phone cams) on websites. The HTML5 Media Capture looks like it doesn't support streams only Files, so that could be out, is there any alternatives at the moment, or in the near future?

Javascript :: Clicks On A Flash / Silverlight Object Under A HTML Overlay?

I've been experimenting with this, but i can't figure out if it is even possible because of possible security restrictions to prevent clickjacking.I don't have access to the source code to the FL / SL object, so i can't implement an ExternalInterface or something like that.

Javascript :: NetConnect Fails Silently In Flash When Called From SilverLight?

Apr 30, 2009

I'm trying to write a Silverlight control that hosts a Flash camera and microphone (since Silverlight doesn't support these things natively, worse luck). I've written a short little Flex application ("WLocalWebCam.swf") which handles the camera, and exposes two external methods: connect(uri:String, streamName:String), and disconnect(). I can call these successfully through JavaScript as follows (simplified to remove error handling, etc.):

function connectWebCam(webCamID, rtmpUri, streamName) {
var flashCam = getWebCam(webCamID);
flashCam.Connect(rtmpUri, streamName);[code].....

Flash :: Javascript - Different Domain To Go To The Site

Oct 28, 2009

I don't know which title I should use for this question. I have a webpage (e.g. index.html) which contains flash content, url: [URL] After I finish the webpage and upload onto the staging server, the customers said that they may need to use different domain to go to the site, e.g. [URL] The images or hyperlink do not work because of this. To handle this, I try to use the base tag as follows: <base href="[URL] The images and hyperlink work. However, flash file cannot call javascript afterwards. I would like to know how I can fix the problem.

Javascript :: Flash - Monitor Browser Windows From The Same Domain?

Jun 23, 2009

My webpage loads a background flash which will connect to the server using socket. If a user open multiple windows/tabs of my website, the server will get multiple socket connections. Any idea of how to make sure that only one socket is connected from the same user and same browser?

I am thinking of using Javascript to monitor the window close event, if a window that was connected to the server is closed, one of the other windows will try to connect to the server. But I can't find a way to listen to that event.I was thinking of Flash's LocalConnection too, but can't find a way to assign unique connection names and let other Flashes know.

Javascript - Web Standards Alternatives To Flex/Silverlight?

May 19, 2010

Is there a set of open standards technologies that I can use to achieve the same way of development as in Flex and Sivlerlight? I am talking about componentization, separation of concerns, rich graphics, states and effects . Please point out some tutorials and other resources if possible.

P.S. I KNOW that this is technically possible, so please do not respond by sending google search results or general JQuery tutorials. I've seen those already. I need to know how a Flex / Silverlight developer could design and implement an application in roughly the same way (imagine a rich HTML tag set, much like XAML/MXML, behind which stands JavaScript responsible for handling events and business logic.

Javascript :: Cross-browser Solution To Work With SVG Files?

Dec 9, 2011

I'm working on a project that originally required me to use <area> elements and 40 copies of a single GIF image to have a hoverable and clickable <img> tag. I suggested SVG, and the client agreed to use SVG instead, as it was easier to work with for both of us.

Anyways, my question is, what cross-browser JavaScript SVG library will allow me to display and interact with pre-made SVG images.

I know of these libraries:

Raphaƫl: I'm currently using this along with a SVG loading plugin. But that plugin does not support Inkscape or Adobe Illustrator SVGs (i.e. most SVGs). cang: This library looks promising, but it requires <canvas> support, which IE doesn't have natively. svgweb: Another more-promising library. It requires Flash, but most IE users have Flash. jQuery SVG: It seems to be able to load SVG images, but development seems to have died. And it requires me to use a modified version of jQuery 1.3.

My client would like to provide somewhat-arbitrary images to my script and have chunks of them be "selectable" (see my demo here).

Javascript :: Insert Javascript Functions To An HTML Document From The Child Flash Swf File?

Jan 29, 2012

I need to execute some javascript string code from flash swf file using actionscript 3.
I read that it could be done by passing the javascript code to the parent html document , using externalinterface.call function. Then I assume it will be faster if I can declare functions in the javascript code in the HTML document in the first use of externalinterface.call funtion ; if flash code calls the javascript code repeatedly. So let me ask you how to do that. For details , any javascript to be loaded is unknown in design time and I can not prepare a javascript file to be loaded.

Javascript :: Passing File Paths From Flash To JavaScript For Upload?

Sep 29, 2010

Is it possible to pass file names from a running Flash application, which only purpose is to enable multiple-file-selection, to a JavaScript application which handles upload of all files to the server?I have examined various Flash upload solutions (like SWFUpload, Uploadify, etc.) and none of them meets my needs. I want an easy to implement solution (like Uploadify) which also lets me specify various parts of the HTTP request.

The reason I need this is because my upload form uses session cookies (for user authentication) and an CSRF token both passed to the server when uploading files.Is it technically possible to pass filenames (+ paths) to a JavaScript application which then handles the upload?

Javascript 3 :: Can A JavaScript Function Detect Which Flash DOM Object Called It

May 20, 2011

Here's the challenge: I have a Flash movie which will be embedded in a page using an unknown DOM ID that I want to be able to identify/store for callback in a JS function. My ideal user flow would be: User clicks button in Flash. Flash pauses any animations / video / sounds / etc. Flash calls an injected JS function to display a page-covering overlay experience. When user closes overlay experience, a callback method on the Flash object is called. Flash resumes playback.

The problem is, when AS3 uses the ExternalInterface.call("functionName", args...) method, there doesn't seem to be a DOM event triggered, and thus it is impossible to tell which object called a JS function, so having a "registerMe()" function doesn't seem to work. Basically, the injected JS function has no way to determine which DOM object to call, because the ID of the Flash object is unknown.

Javascript :: Flash - Security / Protecting Code In JavaScript?

May 10, 2010

With all the recent hype about JavaScript and HTML5 replacing Flash, I wanted to know - How would it be possible to protect client-side js code? Of course, it is possible to obfuscate it, but that would only make it a little harder. Also, for games which submit high scores to the server, wouldn't it be incredibly easy to modify those scores before they are sent to the server? I know even Flash files can be decompiled, but they can be obfuscated and flash decompilation is not as easy as modifying data in JS - could be done easily using a plugin such as Firebug. I'd like to know everyone's views on this.
