Javascript :: Determine IP# Of Domain From Client Browser?

Mar 26, 2010

I would very much like to determine the IP# of a domain from client script. It's for use in a testing application to determine whether or not a certain domain is set to a QA address as opposed to the address live on the . The testing machine will have it's host file set to resolve a domain to the QA address.Pinging from the server won't help since the server is getting the public DNS address.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Determine If SWF Is Running In Same Browser Domain As It Was Loaded From?

Jul 8, 2008

This may sound like a strange request, but I need to be able to determine:

1. What browser domain the current swf is executing in (that is, the page that hosts the swf is displayed in a browser, what is the domain of the page)?

2. What server domain the SWF was loaded from (ie, what the URL domain was for the SWF)?

I believe both of these I can get via javascript and ugly workarounds and pass them in, but what I need is actually to get these values (at least #2) from inside the SWF without relying on the javascript in the hosting page.

Specifically, what I'm trying to determine is if the SWF is executing in a page from the same domain as it itself was hosted/loaded from. I want to fork on this test and create different behavior for a SWF if it's "hot-linked" (that is, loaded onto a page on a different domain from where I host it).

I've looked into flash.system.SecurityDomain and ApplicationDomain... both these have properties called 'currentDomain' which would seem to be the value i'm looking for (for #2), however this object is a static variable that I can't seem to get any information out of or transform into any kind of useful string that I can look at it's value and test with it.The only info I've found on either of those two classes all relates to passing them to LoaderContext and such, when you are loading external resources.I do not want to load anything, I just want to determine how and where the SWF is executing.

Javascript :: Flash - Monitor Browser Windows From The Same Domain?

Jun 23, 2009

My webpage loads a background flash which will connect to the server using socket. If a user open multiple windows/tabs of my website, the server will get multiple socket connections. Any idea of how to make sure that only one socket is connected from the same user and same browser?

I am thinking of using Javascript to monitor the window close event, if a window that was connected to the server is closed, one of the other windows will try to connect to the server. But I can't find a way to listen to that event.I was thinking of Flash's LocalConnection too, but can't find a way to assign unique connection names and let other Flashes know.

Flash :: Javascript - Different Domain To Go To The Site

Oct 28, 2009

I don't know which title I should use for this question. I have a webpage (e.g. index.html) which contains flash content, url: [URL] After I finish the webpage and upload onto the staging server, the customers said that they may need to use different domain to go to the site, e.g. [URL] The images or hyperlink do not work because of this. To handle this, I try to use the base tag as follows: <base href="[URL] The images and hyperlink work. However, flash file cannot call javascript afterwards. I would like to know how I can fix the problem.

Cross Domain Requests : Javascript Vs Flash?

Jan 25, 2010

As you might know, browser's security model does not allow a script loaded in a page from http:[url]... to make cross-domain requests (no AJAX calls to any other domain other than url...).The Javascript file itself could have been served from a different domain altogether (url....) and that is irrelevant. This is the Same-Origin Policy.

Flash also has something similar? But does Flash treat the origin to be the HTML page where the .swf file was loaded or origin is the domain which served the .swf file?

So http:[url]... loads a .swf file from http:[url].... Now .swf can load resources only from [url].... or only [url....? I'm assuming there are no cross-domain.xml files setup on either [url]....

Java :: Cross Domain Calls From Web Browser

Jul 20, 2010

I would like to execute a cross domain http request from a website. Javascript is out, because most browser don't allow cross domain calls. Generally the solution is to use a proxy, but that isn't an option for this project. The other things I was thinking about would be to use Flash or maybe Java. Are there any other platforms that I could use?

Does anybody know firefox/firebug extensions or maybe other browser's extensions to show request source (whether it is javascript code in particular file at particular line or browser plugin Flash/Silverlight/etc)?

Javascript :: Sending An Email From The Browser With Javascript And Flash?

Aug 5, 2011

I'm wondering if its possible to do what I'm thinking, and if it is possible, does anyone know of a flash object that does what I need? I know a Flash object can provide a javascript API to interact with it, what I dont know is can Flash send an email directly without the need to talk to the webserver to do so? If thats possible would it not be possible to write a flash object that did nothing but provide an API to send emails? Has such a thing been created that is out there for others to use?

I'm looking to create a email form on a web page but the site is static (no server scripting). In my situation server scripting is not possible as there is no server, the site is 100% client side on a CD/DVD/USB Stick.

if stage is < 500px height, then movieclip_y=(Stage.width/2)-100
if stage is > 500px height, then movieclip_y=(Stage.width/2)+100

I hope this makes sense. I guess I'm unsure as how to determine the height of the stage (I've created a stage that sizes itself to the browser dimensions).

Javascript :: Securing A Client-side API

Apr 27, 2011

I'm building a server-side API and client-side library for a JavaScript-based game where two very important features must be secured. A user must be debited for each play We must ensure that the score that gets submitted is the actual earned score by the player. Solving the first problem seems simple; at the beginning of each play we hit the API, debit the user's account and return a unique Play ID. When we submit the user's score for that play, we pass the ID issued at the beginning.

The second one has me a little stumped. Initially I considered a client-side hashing algorithm based on the ID and the score, but quickly realized that the Javascript that produces the hash could easily be reverse-engineered, even if it was obfuscated. At this point I considered a small flash component that generates the hash, but I've heard that even compiled flash can be decompiled.

Javascript :: Implementing A Client-side Image Editor

Aug 13, 2010

We want a web app that allows a user to edit images on the browser and we're trying to decide which technology to use. We want to support simple image customization, such as high-quality resizing, cropping, image merging, and color transformations, as well as the addition of text elements with different fonts and colors.

The current options are: Flash: no worries about cross-browser compatibility; could use same image library on client and server; no iPhone/iPad support. Java (compiled to javascript with GWT): need to find a good image library in pure Java so it can be compiled to JS. Plain old javascript + HTML5: may be a mess due to multiple browsers; may need to write image editing code from scratch. Here's what's most important to us / criteria for choosing:

Image consistency: the image that the client edits on the browser must be exactly the same as the one we'll eventually use on the backend. We can achieve this by (a) having the same library both on the client and server to process images, (b) having the client generate the image and upload it to the server, or (c) use two different image processing libraries on the client/server and hope for the best in terms of consistency.

Option (a) seems best, but it would only be possible if we use Flash or Java/GWT. We don't like option (b) because the images are large; we'd rather save a sequence of operations to perform on a raw image than saving multiple transformed images. And we don't really know if option (c) is safe or not. Scalability: We prefer the client to do as much work as possible to decrease server load. Image quality must be kept high
Cross-platform: We'd like to support as many platforms as possible without rewriting everything (big negative for Flash due to iPhone/iPads).
