Oct 25, 2010Any troubles when compressing red colours to .swf? I always have a kind of blur in edges, like dirty compression.

View 1 RepliesI want to create a flash document that allows me to change the colous of an image using a colour palette of my own. I am a complete beginner and have no idea where to start this, hence i would need to know what to do and how to do it. I basically want the image to be a simple 2d image that i will create using different layers in photoshop and import them into flash, the layer images will all be one colour so the colour of the whole layer changes. so the colour palette will be on the side of this and when i click on an image and then a colour the image changes to the colour i clicked.
View 3 RepliesI've used the sortOn function (dp.sortOn("cost");) to sort my dataprovider values based on cost. It works great until I get values over 100. Then it thinks that 250 < 50.
View 2 RepliesI have MP3 files with finely-tuned compression from an audio app. If I use them in my Flash movie, and disable audio compression in "Publish Settings"... will Flash definitely not touch the files and use whatever MP3 compression settings the files have? Or... will flash convert them into raw audio?
View 1 RepliesI create a lot of banner ads for my work and they vary in small and superlarge sizes with product/price info. We recently upgraded to CS 5.5. and I am now working on setting up my workflow as a project to be more efficient. The smallest banner is 300x95 and the biggest is 980x500 - just to demonstrate the size difference. They should both have the same productinfo inside and I would love it if I could have one assetfile for all product info - including the product image - but because of the obvious banner filesize issues I can't just drop a 500px tall image into the assetfile and use this on all bannersizes because even if I scale it down in the smaller banners Flash will still export it as a 500px tall image. Is there any way in Flash to physically downsize the file when scaling it?
View 1 RepliesI am parsing colour codes that I get from a Flex(Flash ActionScript) application, then creating HTML div elements with that same colour. My Problem: The colours are all only 8 digits long. So they cant be RGB colour values can they? What color value format are they in? If I can figure the format they are in I can convert them to RGB. Maybe the last/first digit signifies its 0. alpha value?
PS: Should I convert the colours to RGB or something else?
This is an example of the colour code values I getting from the flash application:
I'm working on a game at the moment, and I'm running into a problem. I was testing the vector files that I export of the art I made, and upon re-importation to flash the colours have changed significantly. Then, when the game is running in a browser, it looks different again. It even looks different between different browsers.

View 5 RepliesI am struggling to find clear guidance on how to switch on colour management in Flash CS4. My attempts to search online have tended to give me far too many irrelevent results and it is not even mentioned in the index of my 700 page Flash CS4 textbook.
View 16 RepliesI'm looking for a way to change the color of the Pasteboard in Flash CS5 on a Mac.I'm talking about the Pasteboard (the blank area around the Stage).I found a shortcut that did it for CS3, but heard you can't do it in CS4 and CS5.I'm thinking surely that's a mistake because that would be absurd.
View 3 RepliesI've created a banner ad (attached) for my company and intended to have it appear as a rectangle with rounded edges (transparent corners). It seems like I need to create a transparent border or mask to have my animated banner appear in this way.
Can I add a mask or a border to the whole thing just to make the rounded corners transparent and see the background colour of the site I'm putting it on?
Note: the corners are currently white. I can't change the colour to match the site background as 1. the banner will be shown in different places, and 2. the background is a gradient.
How does one edit a graphic then have the ability to choose in properties Colour Effect options like alpha or brightness or tint in properties ?
Bringing an .ai file into library then creating a MovieClip of it, I am able to alter colour alpha or brightness or tint etc in properties via Colour Effect option. Use break apart to delete a simple box from part of the artwork and the colour aspects just applied vanish, its back to its original aspect. Try grouping the artwork but still no options now. Same applies if I just place the graphic on stage or open the graphic from the Library.
Try it a different way, bring it in and break apart, then edit the artwork then group it to see if properties has colour effect option for it but still no joy. Try converting it to graphic after editing and giving it a new name, it vanishes, nothing visible even if I select that graphic in library.
It seems that the only way to apply Colour Effect in properties for a graphic or MovieClip is to NOT edit its contents when placed on stage. I cannot bring it in without needing to edit it as the program making the ai. adds a box that I dont need, border of the page in that program in fact.
I've created a text object, writing let's say "HELLO". I then made it into a picture, and erased parts of the text, all the while taking frame captures (F6). It ended up looking great, even though I had 900+ frames. However, I now want to change the font colour...in each of the frames. Any easy way to accomplish this, I cannot go frame by frame. The object is in the same place each time, so if I could just put a mask on all the frames or something to change the colour to black, that would be sweet. I followed this tutorial [URL].

View 3 Replieshow to change the background colour of a flash slide-show. I am trying to post a slide-show on a website, but some of the pictures do not fit the box well and, as a result, there are black bars surround them. Is there a way that I can change the background colour so that it blends with the background colour of the website?
View 1 RepliesCan I select all areas of the same fill/line colour attributes and tell flash to fuse them together into one new area so removing all the internal vector edges?Where is that command?Desperately wondering how I can reduce the complexity of some artwork, to try and stop CS5 crashing, or CS4 saying out of memory.I have a graphics exported from a mapping program as an Adobe Illustrator file. Lots of adjoining coloured areas, there being five different colours on the map. many of these areas abutt and are the same colour, so the vector lines between them could be removed and hopefully reduce the file size.Explained a different way, imagine a world atlas map with France Germany and Spain all in yellow, can I select them and choose fuse and lose their adjoining boundaries ?Is there in fact a clever way of getting flash to select all areas of the same colour, so I dont miss any , then fuse them ?This assumes that my issues lie with complexity of artwork and not just the number of layers I have in my movie clip.I seem to have reached a limit of Flash CS5, 27Mb file of 16 layers, each layer a movie clip, 5 of which are these coloured areas. This will severeley limit my plans yet I see far more complex diagrams on the net. If this was a Freehand file it would be a few Kb.
View 2 Replieshow one goes about changing the colour on the volume bar for playing videos like youtube does as the volume slider is moving. I don't think I need to go into depth using the graphics classes. What I'm looking for are ideas when a user changes the volume while playing a video, say in youtube, while dragging the volume control, the colour of the background bar changes. I've seen lots of help about creating volume bars for videos, but I don't see how to change the volume bar colour as the volume slider is moving.
View 1 RepliesI've been trying to export some png assets for flash from photoshop and keep getting this weird banding issue (see attached image). As you can see, the image on the bottom is the png loaded into photoshop and placed on a white background. Then, on the top is how the png looks when placed on a white background in flash. WHY?! Just to rule out some of the more obvious responses, I've already tried the following:
- Exporting as a 24bit+alpha png from photoshop (interlaced and non-interlaced)
- Exporting as a 32bit alpha png from fireworks
- Exporting as an 8bit alpha png from fireworks
- checking the image properties in flash (losless, no smoothing)
- checking the colour space settings in all apps involved
Got a large file 12 minutes long clip and I compressed it with the adobe optimization program adobe media encoder. I got a 350 megbite file to be 60 megabites as a 320X240. I choose also a medium size video file. How do I keep the video quality and stream it (like hulu would do) or how do I compress it smaller than 60 megabites and keep the same quality. Either or. I am not familiar with web video so I am trying to make the file as small as I can in size with the most amount of quality.

View 1 Repliesonce a video file has been encoded into an flv is there a way to confirm the compression settings? Say if I wanted to double check that I had the right setting or duplicate setting of a flv I encoded earlier, is there a way to access this info?Like QT you can choose Movie Inspector. In QT I opened a flv file that was encoded with a Max data rate: 50kbps (I know, I know very low but it's the setting I was given). I then selected Movie Inspector thinking it could do the trick but it listed the data rate as 359.68 kbits/s.is if I encoded at a Max data rate: 50kbps how is 359.68 listed as it's data rate in QT?
View 3 RepliesWe have Flex applications that connect to our ASP.NET 3.5 Web Applications and usually download lot of data. Now considering XML as transport, for every item, it transmits meta data twice for example.. instead of transferring int value as <Customer CustomerID=23/> it transmits <Customer><CustomerID>23</CustomerID></Customer> .. now here is where bandwidth conservation becomes an issue.
FLEX Can not read GZip and DEFLATE compressed HTTP Response ( So cant use any of them )I heard of some WSCompression but it requires WSE 3.0 now I am skeptical to introduce too many dependency in my hosting environment which requires too much management and overheads. Is WSE 3.0 only dll library which requires no installation on production server? Does it require rewriting all WebService attribute? Or is it simple one time configuration and more or less, anyone knows does it work with Flex ? Flex dynamically generates web services, and we use lot of its auto generated code, now if we want to support compression then do we need to rewrite lot of code?
Simplest solution I can think of is, reduce unnecessary XML tags and reduce them down to attributes to save bandwidth. Is there an easy way to achieve it, our classes has more then 50-70 properties, I understand it will be nightmare to add attributes to each property but we dont know how to do it in case of SOAP.

We've got a Flex/Java application using BlazeDS and we're investigating reducing the size of the payloads being passed between our server and the client.Since AMF is a binary format and supposed to be fairly compact, is there any benefit to turning on GZip compression? Has anyone else done this before and did you see any significant gains from using compression?I just performed a simple test to determine what kind of compression ratios we might expect if we were to enable gzipping. I just captured the AMF payloads in some files and just gzipped them using the Linux command line version. I didn't specify the level of compression, just the default i.e. 'normal'. It appears that on average there is a 9% reduction in the payload size, with some payloads getting as much as 61%. Can anyone see a flaw in this method and what level of compression can be used in HTTP gzipping?
View 3 RepliesI have a project where the resulting application needs to download several huge images (4095x4095), which takes a serious amount of bandwidth. Jpeg is not really a good alternative here, as I would need a very low quality to get acceptable file sizes. Does anyone know of existing AS3 code libraries for loading jpeg2000 or any other wavelet or better compressed images into Flash?
