Professional :: How To Add Classes

Jul 27, 2011

I was learning Actionscript a while back but had to stop when I came across this question. I added a class using the blank class space on the property bar on the right. After making my first class and after saving it, I exited using the 'x' on next to the class' tab. Then..... I was confused because I didn't know how to add a another new class. Where can I add or how can I add a new class

Professional :: Unloading Loaded SWF Classes?

Jun 6, 2011

The first part is that I am downloading a SWF from a server that has a bunch of exported images in it. I am doing a lookup of the class names for these images then using that to load the data into the application. Later on down the line it is possible to download a separate SWF that has images in the same format with overlapping names.The issue here is that when loading the second SWF with duplicate names it doesn't overwrite the data as one might expect, it uses whatever was loaded first. So I need to know if it's possible to either make it overwrite the classes with the new data or throw them away before loading the new SWF so the old ones don't get in the way. Is this possible at all

What is the difference between importing a class and extending a class, I know that when you extend you add all the properties/methods of that class to your own class, but I am still un sure of what this actually does for you and your program, I am pretty confused on the topic and I couldnt find the difference between the two on the internet, also how do you know which one of the two you need to do?

Professional :: How To Set MovieClip Position Relative To Stage With Classes

Mar 1, 2011

I'm developing my first flash app. I'm trying to use classes because they'll be very important in my future app. I created a simple movieclip with a star. However, instead of putting it directly on the stage, I'm calling it from library, using the addChild method to place the star in the stage. To do that, I simple right click over the movieclip icon->properties->check export to action script->and I give a name to the class (for example: myMC)

Then, inside the class I wrote:
package {
import flash.display.*;
import flash.events.*;
public class myMC extends MovieClip {
var star:myMC=new myMC();
public function myMC() {
[Code] .....

As I am placing the two variables origin_x and origin_y inside the constructor, I'm expecting to get 250 and 200 respectively. After drop the star, I want to send it to it's original place, and that's why I need to keep this values. And here's the problem, origin_x and origin_y are both ZERO, instead of 250 and 200... The value is not relative to stage. I managed a little bit and I found this post : [URL]. Unfortunately I tried to replace by the suggested code, but both values remain zero. An interesting thing, is that if I put the star directly in the stage instead of calling it from the library as I am doing, I get correct values in origin_x and origin_y.

Professional :: Obfuscate Classes Contained In SWC From Code Hinting?

Mar 23, 2012

Is there a way to hide various classes from appearing in code hints while using a compiled SWC?We are trying to create a SWC that can hide classes unnecessary/hidden to third party developers. There is only one class they need to reach, however that class reaches out to so many others. We tried namespaces on our classes but that doesnt work. It only works on methods, variables and properties.Not sure if there is some metadata available to hide those classes from auto complete. That would be sweet.

Jul 25, 2011

I'm currently developing a game in flash and want to be able to divide up my .fla assets in a way that means artists can work on a game menu .fla in isolation from the game.fla and rest of the game code.If I could briefly explain how I've approached this so far, I would be extremelyMy project is setup like this:HighScoreMenu.fla -> document class HighScoreMenu extending GameMenu class.game.fla ->document class game.asgame.as class loads the published HighScoreMenu.swf and manipulates the menu i.e. animates on and off screen via inherited functions in the GameMenu class.

Now this seemed to work to begin with, until my code evolved and upon going to publish my HighScoreMenu.fla flash started complaining about symbols being used in Game.as that were in Game.fla... If I'm only publishing the HighScoreMenu which extends from GameMenu then why is it even looking to compile Game.as

ActionScript 3.0 :: Unexpected Errors, Multiple Helper Classes, Extended Classes?

Jan 9, 2010

The examples I'll use don't do anything - they're classes without ANY members - no variables, methods, anything.

Let's say I extends Sprite and call it MySprite.

I save it in test.core

[code]...

Now I create another custom class called MyWindow that extends MySprite.

I save it in test.windows

[code]...

Then I create another class that extends MyWindows (the example I'll use is a document class - but that doesn't matter - I've tested using an instance too).

[code]...

Notice that I'm not even trying to instantiate the helper classes - just having them there throws the error.

If there is only a single helper class, everything runs fine.

Also note that - as far as I can tell - this only happens when extending one class from another package, then extending that class with more than one helper object.I'm pretty sure there's no namespace bumps or typographical errors, as this is a very pared-down version of the original application.

EDIT: seems the problem exists even without the crossing packages - even extending MySprite in the document class with multiple internal classes generates this error.

Actionscript 3 :: Inside The Library Use Of A Bunch Of Classes/packages - Expose One Of These Classes?

Feb 3, 2012

I am creating a library in AS3. Inside the library I make use of a bunch of classes/packages that need not be exposed to the end user of my lib. I want to only expose one of these classes.

I guess my questions are:

1) How are libraries commonly distributed in AS3?

2) Is there a .jar equivalent in AS3 that developers can include, but will only have access/knowledge of the classes I've declared as public?

Professional :: Built-in Flash Classes Such As Flash.display?

Feb 13, 2010

It seems that the code of flash's classes under enFirst RunClassesFP9flash are not complete but merely prototype declarations. Where is the actual or working code and why are they not using package { } keywords? Instead they declare classes using the intrinsic class keywords. What is intrinsic and why would i want to have intrinsic classes? Can i also make intrinsic classes? Why are some classes under "fl" like import fl.transitions.Tween; and others are under "flash" like flash.display.MovieClip.

Additional: The classes in enFirst RunClassesFP8flash are not complete... Where are the other classes like flash.display.MovieClip located? I only see BitmapData under display. There must be another "flash" folder not under FP8 and FP9 but i can't find it with a simple search. Also enConfigurationActionScript 3.0Classesfl is incomplete i think. Is the organization of files bad? Some imports are with "fl" others are with "flash"

ActionScript 3.0 :: Custom Base Classes And Custom Classes

Jun 25, 2009

I've created a base class to house some basic functions I'd like to have across several movie clips in a game I'm making, however, when I link a custom class to the same movie clip I get the message; "The base class will not be used because the class specified is already defined and extends its own subclass. If you wish to use the base class, specify a class name in the Class field that will be auto-generated or enter the default base class 'flash.display.MovieClip' in the Base Class field." I removed the 'extends MovieClip' inside the Class but it still shows the message. Does this mean that I cannot use a custom class and a custom base class on a movie clip?

private namespace nsOne = "com.packageone";

Am I using namespaces incorrectly or is there a different way to do this without having to write out the entire package name anytime I want to use these classes?
