View 2 RepliesThis is with Flexbuilder 3.2, Eclipse 3.3.2.I am moving my development environment to a new machine. Actionscript classes that compiled in the old environment now get a compile error:
A file found in a source-path must have an externally visible definition. If a definition in the file is meant to be externally visible, please put the definition in a package.I do declare the package in these classes - I think failure to declare the package is the usual reason for this error.To add to the mystery, many classes in this project compile without errors.
I am doing an Actionscript 3.0 project which involves introspection. I am wondering if there is a way to get all the classes within a given package structure.

I'm trying to set up an AS3 project using a single package, that will have multiple classes coded in seperate files.I am looking for examples and tutorials for this kind of project.As I understand it, these files must have the same package, and their class must be public. This will allow the multiple files and various classes to be used in the single package.[code]Either of both of these files could then be imported into the main movie and their classes / functions used in the package.

I'd like to separate the functionality into separate classes for each of the following:1) A class for loading the XML file(s) (there will likely be more datagrids and more xml files)2) A class for "drawing" the datagrid based on the xml.... others you can think of?

View 0 RepliesWhen I create anything in a library, it's basically a class right? Meaning I can do essentially the same thing with use of a package in an AS file? In AS 2.0 this would probably mean I can add specific functions on this class as I can do when I use flash's object interface and add script to the specific class object itself. However, in AS 3.0 you cannot attribute code directly to an object right?
This leads me to my second question. I basically want to create a flash mp3 player (I've coded this already), but make it so that it is an entire package of contents, so I can add it to my website when a mouse event is detected and then take it off the website once it's no longer needed (to conserve memory and assure an overall nice experience). The problem is that I have many objects and subsequent functions (play button, pause button, etc), and want all of this to be contained in one file. Is this even possible?
I have x amount of classes in a package eg. "com.trevorboyle.lotsofclasses" and I keep adding more (These classes will probably all be static and will probably all extend the same class).I wish to create a drop-down list of all these classes, preferably without having to manually create an array myself.
Once a class is selected from the list, I'll be able to use getDefinitionByName to return it, because I will know it's name at this point.The question is, as I believe there is no support in AS3 to list all the classes in a specific package, is there a design pattern that handles this?

View 6 RepliesI'm running into this weird thing with ASDoc. It will only document one package function per package.For example.I have these two functions:
gs.util.printf
gs.util.ftrace
In these files:
gs/util/printf.as
gs/util/ftrace.as
The only function that get's documented in ASDocs is "printf". But I know it can do more than one. As an example, in the livedocs [URL] There are more than one functions documented.
Using flash professional CS5.5 - creating an Air for Android app. It appears you can't deploy any additional files, other than the swf file, In Air debug launcher (mobile) the additional files deploy.But as soon as you deploy it for real on an android machine it fails to install the extra files. (it's a small sqllite file).I have looked in the final APK file using zip and they are there in the assets folder.

I was learning Actionscript a while back but had to stop when I came across this question. I added a class using the blank class space on the property bar on the right. After making my first class and after saving it, I exited using the 'x' on next to the class' tab. Then..... I was confused because I didn't know how to add a another new class. My question is- how do I "package" the files together so the .flv and .swf open together and I also need to ensure that no one else can open and edit them in Flash(ex- someone receives the files, has flash on their computer and can alter my original content).

I have a project that i'm working on, and in the project it's important that i have an object that i can create with actionscript that already has two arrays inside of it. To do this, i made the movieclip, i checked export for actionscript in the library, and in the custom class that corresponds to that object i made the arrays with the following code:

View 2 RepliesThe first part is that I am downloading a SWF from a server that has a bunch of exported images in it. I am doing a lookup of the class names for these images then using that to load the data into the application. Later on down the line it is possible to download a separate SWF that has images in the same format with overlapping names.The issue here is that when loading the second SWF with duplicate names it doesn't overwrite the data as one might expect, it uses whatever was loaded first. So I need to know if it's possible to either make it overwrite the classes with the new data or throw them away before loading the new SWF so the old ones don't get in the way. Is this possible at all

What is the difference between importing a class and extending a class, I know that when you extend you add all the properties/methods of that class to your own class, but I am still un sure of what this actually does for you and your program, I am pretty confused on the topic and I couldnt find the difference between the two on the internet, also how do you know which one of the two you need to do?

I'm developing my first flash app. I'm trying to use classes because they'll be very important in my future app. I created a simple movieclip with a star. However, instead of putting it directly on the stage, I'm calling it from library, using the addChild method to place the star in the stage. To do that, I simple right click over the movieclip icon->properties->check export to action script->and I give a name to the class (for example: myMC)
Then, inside the class I wrote:

As I am placing the two variables origin_x and origin_y inside the constructor, I'm expecting to get 250 and 200 respectively. After drop the star, I want to send it to it's original place, and that's why I need to keep this values. And here's the problem, origin_x and origin_y are both ZERO, instead of 250 and 200... The value is not relative to stage. I managed a little bit and I found this post : [URL]. Unfortunately I tried to replace by the suggested code, but both values remain zero. An interesting thing, is that if I put the star directly in the stage instead of calling it from the library as I am doing, I get correct values in origin_x and origin_y.
Is there a way to hide various classes from appearing in code hints while using a compiled SWC?We are trying to create a SWC that can hide classes unnecessary/hidden to third party developers. There is only one class they need to reach, however that class reaches out to so many others. We tried namespaces on our classes but that doesnt work. It only works on methods, variables and properties.Not sure if there is some metadata available to hide those classes from auto complete. That would be sweet.
View 3 RepliesI'm currently developing a game in flash and want to be able to divide up my .fla assets in a way that means artists can work on a game menu .fla in isolation from the game.fla and rest of the game code.If I could briefly explain how I've approached this so far, I would be extremelyMy project is setup like this:HighScoreMenu.fla -> document class HighScoreMenu extending GameMenu class.game.fla ->document class game.asgame.as class loads the published HighScoreMenu.swf and manipulates the menu i.e. animates on and off screen via inherited functions in the GameMenu class.
Now this seemed to work to begin with, until my code evolved and upon going to publish my HighScoreMenu.fla flash started complaining about symbols being used in Game.as that were in Game.fla... If I'm only publishing the HighScoreMenu which extends from GameMenu then why is it even looking to compile Game.as
