Professional :: Why Flash Adding Points To Imported Illustrator File

Jul 30, 2010

This has been a long time question, why, when you bring illustrator artwork into flash does it add so many unnecessary control points to the object? something as simple as a circle with 4 happy control points in illustrator suddenly becomes a 20 control point circle when brought into flash. It has been this way forever and I know that there is no setting to change this?

Modify An Imported Illustrator File After Import Into Flash?

Jan 28, 2011

I'm trying to come up with a convenient workflow for importing .ai Files into Flash. While the import works fine, there is one major drawback: If an artist decides to update something within the .ai file, then it is frustratingly hard to make that change in Flash as well, since it is not possible to just "update" any of the imported assets from Illustrator.

There is an "update" function available in flash for imported graphics which are linked to bitmap files (.png, .jpg, etc.), but so far it does not seem possible to kind of link imported assets to an external file and maintain that link.

Or does anyone know of a way to use Illustrator files as a basis, import into Flash, and make it possible to re-import the .ai file and actually overwrite all library items that already exist? Usually Flash creates copies of the imported ai file.

Which I'm not too fond of, because Flash ofcourse isn't a drawing programme like Illustrator.

Professional :: Importing 3D Illustrator FXG To Flash?

Jan 18, 2011

I have a simple rectangle with a 3D-bevel effect built in Illustrator that I need to export as an FXG file for use in Flash. When I export from Illustrator to an FXG format, it creates bitmaps and embeds those in the FXG file.if i import directly into Flash CS5 there are transparent gaps (and the symbols created are very complex), and it warns me that the objects aren't compatible with flash and they should be converted to bitmaps firstIs there a way to export the object to an FXG file and keep it in a vector format?if not, and this may be an Illustrator question, is there a way to create the same kind of effect so that I can get an end FXG object that will work in Flash?

I'm itching to find the most effective way of importing my illustrator vectors into flash but keeping the file size as small as possible. At the moment i'm literally copying my vectors in illustrator and pasting them in Flash, it clearly works but the file sizes seem really high and its hindering the performance of my fla. Is there a more effective way of exporting? or optimizing the imported vectors once they're inside flash?

Oct 20, 2010

I have just moved to CS5 and have found that an important part of my workflow has been compromised as a result. Whereas I love to use Flash as a drawing tool and move elements from here to illustrator, then from Illustrator to Photoshop as a shape layer - I have found that Illustrator CS5 renders everything that I paste from flash as a bitmap.I note that there are several options inside Flash to determine how it imports Illustrator files, but I cannot seem to find similar options within Illustrator to change how it deals with objects pasted from flash.

Professional :: Imported Photoshop File Exported As?

May 27, 2010

I've imported a multi-layered Photoshop file (that contains layers with elements smaller than the project size... so each layer is alpha with an element floating somewhere on the canvas.I was pleasantly surprised to see that it not only imported into Flash CS3, but also kept all the alpha and successfully exported as a Flash file with the alpha (of each layer) intact. I didn't think it would be able to do that!Anyway, the one thing that concerns/interests me is whether whatever it's doing is compatible on all systems that it'll reach.  At first, I thought it was converting each layer into a PNG file, since (to the best of my knowledge) jpegs dont' support transparency, and the layers were not converted to vectors.

So, what exactly IS it doing to each layer?  What is it exporting them as?  How compatible is that on other systems (browsers, O/S's, etc) these days?  Also, are PNG files now fully supported in all browsers and systems?I'd hate to build my whole site, only to find that it's not compatible on some other system....Bit of back story...  I'm creating a multi-layered interface (background, then another level with some random loaded swf file, then the 'moving stuff' (nav buttons, titles, etc), and then an odd shaped frame on top of that.  Previously, I did it by making everything with Flash vectors... but this time, I tried making all the elements/layers in Photoshop with just bitmaps (rather than vectors), as I wanted a bit more detail.

Originally, I was considering vectorizing them, so it would be all vectors and no bitmaps.... but with all the gradients and details, they would be an inefficient nest of vectors.... quite a mess. So, then I considered doing most of the screen as a bitmap background image, and putting the 'moving stuff' as vectors on top (...and perhaps use masks so that they appeared to go behind the frame and foreground items... but I was worried that (on perhaps other systems or configurations) the image and the vector matte wouldn't align for some reason.

Flash Freezes Up On Importing File To Stage From Illustrator CS4

Professional :: Center An Imported .swf File On Stage (ALL 50 Frames Of It)?

Apr 24, 2011

I am a Flash novice who was asked to do a brief training exercise on importing a simple .swf (3D animation) into Flash. However, I cannot figure out how to center the .swf on the Flash stage. Flash always places it in the top left corner of the stage, and while I can center each individual frame of the 50-frame animation by using the align feature in the properties window, I do not know how to center the entire 50-frame clip all at once. Do I have to use ActionScript to do this? And if so, what is the exact code I would need for this, and what exact procedure would I follow?

Actionscript 3.0 :: Display Video File In An Imported SWF File Fullscreen In Flash?

May 23, 2011

I am using a flipbook Flash/Actionscript 3.0 framework for a digital magazine[url]...

You can have videos embedded in the pages of the flipbook, but they can not be display fullscreen like Youtube videos, for example.

The flipbook can also import swf files to display as pages of the flipbook, so another way of embedding videos into a page of the flipbook would be to have the video player in the swf page you are embedding. This gives you more control over the style and the positioning of the video.

My question is: Is there a way with AS3.0 to togle the embedded video from normal predefined size to fullscreen and back?

Professional :: Importing Text From Illustrator?

Jun 22, 2011

I'm using the CS5 version of Flash Pro and Illustrator on a Window box running XP serv. Pk 3.These are the AI Import Preferences:I'm trying to import some text, grayscale with suitable stroke and drop shadow, from a finished Board in Illustrator.  I've made PNG's, to allow for a transparent background, at both 300 and 600 ppi.  I know these are large, but it doesn't matter too much in this movie.  It worked well in the Color version.

When I bring them into Flash there is a distinct difference in the quality of each, of course, but both are jagged when transforming them down to the size needed.  The ones at 600ppi are better but there is still a visual distortion due to the jaggedness.

Professional :: Saving Bug With Importing Files From Illustrator?

Jul 22, 2011

At work we've been having a particularly irritating issue with svaing flash files in CS5.After making some changes to a flash file, and trying to save it, the flash file simply doesn't commit the changesand keeps the earlier version. We believe we've isolated the issue to importing from illustrator (CS5).It seems if you copy any rasterized images, or vectors with effects on them (such as drop shadows, glows etc)saving starts to have some issues, the saving itself seems to work fine, but reopening the files with often result withflash being reverted to a pervious saved version.I'm not sure what is the exact cause of the issue, but I do think it's certainly linked to illustrator importing.Has anyone else had issues with saving, and it rolling back to previous saves, and is there any way to avoid/fix this issue?
