I have brush off my Flash skills. Usualy I work in FW but now I have to create a banner in various large sizes but with very limited file size so I turn to Flash. My animation needs are very modest: moving ease in/out, rotate back forth and maybe a fade. Have any of you guys have some tips&trix for getting as much (simple) animation with keeping a small file size? Or point me to some tutorials?
View 6 RepliesWhat is a reasonable file size for a Flash wide skyscraper ad? I know the IAB is a max initial load of 40k for standard ad's, but what about Flash? Either I'm losing my mind or my client is for them wanting something under 30KB. I've used AS3 for almost all animation, I even killed all animation and I still can't get it under 30KB. Is there some kind of compression secret that I'm missing?I've compressed the images before import.I've reduced quality of the images inside Flash as much as possible without killing quality

View 3 RepliesI have this banner that needs to have a several rows worth of paragraph text animate horizontally through it. Ideally, the text should also be possible to update from outside of flash. As for the scrolling text, working with that much text as one long row of letters doesn't seem feasible, so I'm wondering is there a standard way in Flash CS5 of working with large amounts of animated text? Not the user editable kind like text fields and such, but presentational text.
Obviously it's not efficient to have one long string of text that extends several screens beyond the display, as is the case now. Editing just one letter can take several seconds of scrolling as the string is currently over 3000 px wide, and it's not even all the text that's going to be in the final animation. It'd be great if it was possible to type that text through some web based cms, and have it automatically transferred to the Flash banner,
Im currently working on a project where I have a 92x92 pixel image that needs to tween into a 711x300 pixel image. The images are the same but cropped to these sizes via photoshop, imported into flash, then converted to graphic symbols. I want to have the 92x92 image tween into the 711x300 image.
I say tween, but the two tweens aren't working correctly, I can't seem to find a "crop" like function in flash that will let me adjust the large image for when its supposed to be small, then have it tween between the two sizes as i need them to.
Situation:I've got 2 swf files,1 is a preloader which loads the 2nd swf file, my site.Both of them, if started separately,work correctly.Problem:when I put the files together,linking the site's swf to the preloader,I get a null element error and the site loads no correctly.What I've understood :The preloader is ok, because I can remove the error message working on the site's swf AS code.In the preloader's code I have some lines to center its animation on the stage, I do that like this:

then using myStage.stageWidth and myStage.stageHeight I calculate the clip position
Also on the site's code I do the same to center a movieclip using exactly the same code, but it doesn't work and I've found that the problem is the myStage variable, not because it has the same name as the variable on the other file (I've tried to name it myFrame).It looks that on the site's swf the myStage variable can't be assigned and then results to be null.
Question: How can I obtain the stage's height and width since var myStage:Stage = this. stage; doesn't work?
I'm back in video after a decade long absence and I'm completely new to YouTube because I've been living on a continent that rarely even has Internet. I've got some old footage I need to put on YouTube, but YouTube's specs are a bit contradictory at times.Starting from the get go, I have several questions and I hope you can point me in the right direction. It sounds like an FLV file is what I should go for, so I'll base my questions on that. Don't hesitate to answer between the lines. And don't hesitate to tell me to change tracks.
The most clear export I can make from my old Avid editing program is an uncompressed QuickTime movie. I can't find anything in the YouTube specs about QuickTime moives. They don't say they're good. They don't say they're bad. Can I convert to an FLV file and upload to YouTube with good results? When I export non-HD material from my editing program, what frame size do I export?When I convert to an FLV file, what size do I re-size to? Is it possible to change the font size for just some of the text inside a dynamic text box to be changed like this? I cannot get it to work properly. The reason I have it as dynamic is because it needs a scrollbar.

View 2 RepliesSo I'm creating an AS3 doc with a lot of jpegs and pngs. I'm really new to flash and the last swf I made was 5.6mb, way too big from what I read. But I haven't been able to figure out how to avoid this...I can't decrease the images sizes anymore for quality's sake. Can I store the images externally so that only the ones needed for that scene load at that time?

I have been trying to create a gif web banner using flash. Everything look great in flash, flash player and quicktime but when I export or publish as a gif my background image is grainy and pixelated. My document is saved as 500X90. My background image was saved out of photoshop as 72 dpi. 500X90. I tried saving the image as .tif, .png, .jpg, all with the same result.
I'm not sure if this is the problem or not as I'm a freshman user but I have the background image running on its own timeline that runs the length of the movie. Also the animated text/symbols created in flash look perfect when I save it as a gif the only thing effected is the background image. I'm stuck, I have looked all over the web for the answer. On a side note I'm using a Mac running os x 10.4.11

I need to create a Flash banner. Fairly straight-forward in terms of looks - a long list of services that scrolls from right to left and then loops continuously.
I'm using Flash MX 2004. So far I've created the text - it comes on from the right and leaves on the left. The problem I've got however is how to make this a continuous, seamless loop. When it goes off on the left I can't figure out how to make it come back on from the right.
I am trying to create a scrollable banner flash, exactly like [url]... does it. I have all of the adobe products. Is this kind of thing hard to create?

Does the original banner size target another swf? I am just confused how the, say 300x250 banner, only shows that size on a site, without showing the expandable part...

Images are stored in a remote server). The bitmap data display should show 8 images at a time and corresponding text. We can see rest content by scrolling (kinetic scroll is implemented). How can I go for it?Some questions:Is there any limit for size of bitmap data ( As per link there is restriction on the height of the bitmap we can create in AS2 (max value is 2880 which is not enough for some 30 element list If we create individual bitmap data for 30 individual PNG files, we find some jerks in scroll. How can we have smooth scrolling?

I need to create an expandable flash banner. I have tried using the DartMotif Tutorial and installed the plugin etc. However when i get so far it doesn't work. I've done the tutorial about 3 times now and still get stuck on the same part.
I was wondering if there is another way of creating expandable flash banners? Or, if anyone has a different tutorial. The tutorial i'm using was downloaded from [URL] called Motif Expanding Ad Tutorial.doc.
I come across this free tools of making GIF banner at this site :[URL] As far as I could guess, the creator made it in Flash, I m trying to make an equivalent Flex application, and here some problems I encountered : -When press Generate Text button, I guess this application should make a new movieclip ( in Flash ) addEventListener to it,so it could be drag&drop, inside the movie clip was a Child of TextLabel with the fontFamily,fontSize,color depends on the combo boxes ==> So in my Flex application I tried to use the RichTextEditor Components, it worked great ( provide text/font/size/color selection ) but when I make a new button, say "Create Text" , I make a new label, but problem is that in programmatic API, Label wont have property such as fontFamily, fontColor, etc to be set with, so I only get the text by myLabel.text = richTextEditor.text, is there a work around ?
- When I use AS to change the rotation of the label, the label did rotate, but the label.text no longer display, =/, button reacts the same when I change the rotation, the frame would rotate without text inside the button frame, like always =)), is there a work around for it ?P.S : Is it possible to export from flex application a canvas to a GIF ?
