View 3 RepliesI have brush off my Flash skills. Usualy I work in FW but now I have to create a banner in various large sizes but with very limited file size so I turn to Flash. My animation needs are very modest: moving ease in/out, rotate back forth and maybe a fade. Have any of you guys have some tips&trix for getting as much (simple) animation with keeping a small file size? Or point me to some tutorials?

after updating to the latest flash player version, i get this double image top and bottom with a large green line running halfway from right to left.the top image is identical to the bottom image.this only happens in ie and does not do this in firefox.after a few days of trying to fix it and couldnt, i loaded an image prior to the flash player update to fix it.this was fine until i had to upgade the flash player again.im not sure if im doing this right but here is a bmp file of what im trying to describe .http:[url]...i can always restore the image again prior to upgrade but i got the feeling this will came back again and the only way to fix it is to fix it right.
First like so many I am new to actionscript and I'm almost there but I cant figure it out. Either way I am putting a scrollbox in each section where there is a graphic. So for every section there will be a new scrollbox with new info. It goes to each section perfectly but as soon as you use the scrollbox and then try to go to another section the content from the scrollbox is still on the page.
View 4 Repliesi am making a flash demo and have a bunch of different sections / categories that the movie will need to navigate to. I created a similar demo previously and used different "scenes" to keep track and organize the different categories. Should i keep using scenes to navigate to or is there a better, more professional way to do my movie?Also, where could i find more information on properly organizing and setting up my flash files? ie: naming conventions, etc.
View 2 RepliesI am creating a website with different sections (home, portfolio... - each of them has a full-screen looped video as a background)I made a separated .swf for each section in order to reduce their size.I just need to know how can I connect these .swf in order to navigate from one section to any other in the website.What would be the easiest way to do so?Is there a way to do it using the available Actions/code snippets included in Flash CS5?
View 8 RepliesI am using a single FLV file. On the player interface in addition to play/pause and stop, I have a number of chapter buttons, which I have successfully pointed to the corresponding points in the FLV file. I need to find a way to capture and hold the relevant start and stop times of each of these chapters so that when I am in each chapter, the stop and play buttons will reference the chapter times and control only the relevant chapter, ie in Chapter Two clicking stop will reset to beginning of Chapter 2, not the start of FLV file. Not sure if there are built-in properties and methods I can use, or I need to create something custom.
View 4 RepliesI am trying to create a nav system that expands to show sub-sections when the user rolls over main section buttons.Let me describe exactly (as best I can) how this would work:A vertical list of 5 menu buttons is stacked and distributed at equal distances.The user clicks a button (lets say Button 2) and Buttons 3, 4, 5 slide down to reveal the sub-nav below Button 2. When the user clicks or rolls back to any of the original 5 buttons, that subnav closes up.Does anyone know of a good tutorial for this type of nav or have anything I might be able to dissect and work from?
View 3 RepliesI'm looking for a tutorial which explains me how to create a simple AS3 image gallery driven by an XML file.
The gallery I need is really simple: an horizontal bar placed on the bottom containing the thumbnails which scrolls left and right according to the mouse pointer clicking on a thumbnail the full image must be shown above the thumbnails' bar buttons for prev and next image clicking on the button which opens the gallery I must be able to pass a variable to make the gallery load the proper xml file (I've got 6 different categories to show)
Any link or flash file which explain how to apply mouse move effect on images of gallery. I mean image sof gallery simply move with mouse direction and stop on mouse stop.
View 1 Repliesi need to pan a large image. I didnt used the kirupa example, because this was more what i was looking for. The problem is that a i need a close button so i can go back to the small image (unload it). Example:picture1.swf (contaings a medium size picture) when i click over it, goes to picture1_big.swf where i can pan the image.The problem is that if i put a close button it doesnt recognize it. Everything is made with AS.
View 1 RepliesI would like to create a dynamic 3 layer image that can have any of the 3 layers changed. i was thinking of doing this with alpha mapping where I have a back, middle, and front layer each defined by an alpha map. So if the style or shape of these changed I just render the texture with a new alpha map to define what portion actually takes the texture. So for each of the 3 layers there is a type(defines the shape), the texture which is applied to the shape, and an alpha map that is used to specify how the shape takes the image.
Imagine a fruit basket that can have the fruit switched out or the basket, and any combination of textures applied. You could potentially see the inside of the basket which may have a different texture than the outside. The fruit would all be one image that would then fit into the basket, and finally the basket would render. Then if you swap the color of the basket but keep the same model it would update, and you could then swap the model of the basket and keep the same color. But i'd want to do it where I have 1 texture that can fit over all the baskets but is just chopped off using alpha mapping.
I want to create a tile map and my fla is 600 x 400. Now I create 7x7 Sprites (Size 40x40) and I want them to be in the middle of the scene with text around (not in the map!). One way is do update the sprite containers, but this isn't "smoothly", I wanna scroll the content, when a new raw appears.
View 0 Repliesin AS3 we use somthing like this to save image from SWF:
<AS>
import com.adobe.images.JPGEncoder;
var jpgSource:BitmapData = new BitmapData (sketch_mc.width, sketch_mc.height);
jpgSource.draw(sketch_mc);[code]....
Is it possible to save this sketch_mc in a larger size? Suppose its dimensions are 200x200 can we save it to 1000x1000 or something like that?
I am working on a project for a client, and our designer has created a very large (7000px wide by about 600px high) image, which is split up into several 'screens'. The image is one long continuous image, so can't really be 'chopped up'. There are left/right arrows on either side of the scene which, when clicked, go to the next screen and play a short animation (basic movieclip fades/movement etc) for that screen.
My problem is that the panning left and right is starting to get a bit jerky - most likely Flash not being able to cope with tweening such a large image. Is there an easy alternative to using tweens in this case? I'm using TweenLite (AS3). I am happy to provide an SFW/FLA, but only in private to an experienced developer, hope thats ok.
Requirement: Create single very large bitmap data which contain some 30 PNG images loaded and for each image it should have some text. Images and text are loaded dynamically (AS2 code. Images are stored in a remote server). The bitmap data display should show 8 images at a time and corresponding text. We can see rest content by scrolling (kinetic scroll is implemented). How can I go for it?Some questions:Is there any limit for size of bitmap data ( As per link there is restriction on the height of the bitmap we can create in AS2 (max value is 2880 which is not enough for some 30 element list If we create individual bitmap data for 30 individual PNG files, we find some jerks in scroll. How can we have smooth scrolling?

I'm trying to read the width and height of a locally loaded image. This seems to work for images that do not exceed the dimensions limited by the Flash Player 10 [URL], but as soon as the images are bigger, the width and height remain 0. The strange thing is that now and then, I can read the dimension of these bigger images, but most of the times not. I understand that this might be because of the player limitation, but then I would at least expect the error to be consistent.
I want to check this since there is no use in loading such a big image as it will not be displayed anyway, but it would be good to provide a detailed error message to the user.
Here's the code that I use to load the image locally and read the dimension:
private function chooseImageButton_clickHandler(event:Event):void {
var allowedTypes:String = "*.jpg;*.png";
m_uploadFileReference = new FileReference();
m_uploadFileReference.addEventListener(Event.SELECT,

I'm just starting out with Flash, I'm using ActionScript 2.0, and trying to acomplish something seemingly simple but it is not happening like I would think it should,'m trying to load a large image about 3000x2000 pixels and then mask it with a small square, so that later I can scroll through the image to view it.Here is the code I have so far, it produces a blank white screen.
createEmptyMovieClip("container", getNextHighestDepth());
container.createEmptyMovieClip("fullImage", container.getNextHighestDepth());
//When I replace the above line of code with the line of code bellow the image is displayed

i have 2 buttons and one large image. this image has about 10 product images inside of the clip.here is the idea...i want to click on the move left or move right button, clicking on the button will move the MC containing the Product Images to the left or right.the thing i am not getting is normally when i move stuff on the X-axis i have more than one button and attach the actions to each button. but i only have two buttons now. one for left and one for right. now i am confused.
View 14 RepliesI'm doing photo gallery and like to enlarge an image when I click on it with some animation like it's in flash (the picture slowly expands first by x-axis and after by y-axis and the space around the picture dims), that it scales to it's largest possible size to fit in screen, but it can be any other animation. I found some topics about this, but I don't want to use any 3rd-party plugin (including flash, drupal...) to do it. Maybe it can be somehow done by jQuery...
View 1 RepliesI'm trying to tween a large image 6917x1500px. I'm moving the x,y and scaling this image. It's a jpeg, and the image really chuggs at certain sections. Has anyone tweened an object this large before? Should I be trying tween lite? I don't think that will work, because it just has less settings.
View 5 RepliesI coded a multiple file uploader using the FileReferenceList and PHP. It works great for me all the time on my Fios internet connection, which is by far faster then DSL, etc... So my issue kinda went unnoticed until I got on a DSL connection. Now, many of the files I was uploading seem to be timing out, but there is no indication of this. No errors, etc... just stops its progress and NEVER finishes. Tried bumping up the script execution time on the server

View 1 RepliesMy website allows users to upload photographs which I store on Amazon's S3. I store the original upload as well as an optimized image and a thumbnail. I want to allow users to be able to export all of their original versions when their subscription expires. So I am thinking the following problems arise.Could be a large volume of data (possibly around 10GB)How to manage the download process - eg make sure if it gets interrupted where to start from again, how to verify successful download of files.Should this be done with individual files or try and zip the files and download as one file or a series of smaller zipped files.Are there any tools out there that I can use for this? I have seen Fzip which is an Actionscript library for handling zip files. I have an EC2 instance running that handles file uploads so could use this for downloads also - eg copy files to EC2 from S3, Zip them then download them to user via Flash downloader, use Fzip to uncompress the zip folder to user's hard drive.
View 1 RepliesI've asked collegues and others, noone seems to have an answer to this.
I'm making a site that uses the Parallax Scroll effect, that is, when mouse moves and the movie scrolls, different layers move with different speeds - making it appear a bit 3-D.
Thing is, the original "world" which I import from Photoshop is very large, more than 9000 pixels wide, I don't know if this actually is the problem, but here it goes:
It skips, or hitches, from time to time. I of course want it to run smoothly.
I've tried several things but nothing seems to work:
[Code]...
My application consists of displaying a large custom tree like structure to the user that can eventually grow to massive proportions like the dimensions listed in the question. I allow them to export the image with the following line of code tied to a button click event:
var image:ImageSnapshot = ImageSnapshot.captureImage(this, 72, new PNGEncoder(), false);
I've managed to export images close to the dimensions listed but around there it start to get the error message listed below after spinning for close to 15 seconds:
Error: Error #1000: The system is out of memory.
at flash.utils::ByteArray/writeBytes()
at mx.graphics::ImageSnapshot$/mergePixelRows()
[Code]....
Is the flashplayer plugin for my browser running out of memory? I noticed in my task manager it got up to about 1.2GB of memory usage(I have 4GB on my system). If that is the case is it possible to limit the memory usage for a given function like the ImageSnapshot.captureImage() call above?
Is there maybe a way to generate the component into 2 or 4 ImageSnapshot objects and piece them together afterward?
I am trying to create a web site suing adobe Dreamweaver and flash, for the first time.I am trying to upload a webpage that contains swf.When I check mu site I could only see a blank page with the webpage title at the top of the page.When I contacted the webhosting company they say they can see the message that a newer version of adobe flash player is required. From my computer I cannot even see the message.The helpdesk person said there are possibly two reasons for it. Either there is a problem with the code in flash or it is too large.Are they too large to upload? If so, what is the maximum size of file can I upload on a webpage?I know they are basic questions but I am trying to create website on my own.
View 2 RepliesI am preparing a navigation (using panning) movie in Flash. There is very big (6000x4000) image (area photo from top) on the stage and it's position moves once user moves his mouse. Thus, user can navigate on the area.But flash really drives me insane while working on this movie. It usually suddenly stops and quits with error.I'd like to ask what can i do? should i use a different method???It seems, Adobe becomes stupid on large files and there are bugs in somewhere Flash. For example; how can i use a method like Google Maps (it loads an another image when you move another position. Not loads all images together and doesnt consumpt large amount of resources.)?
