Actionscript 2 :: Load Large Image & Mask In Flash?

Jul 24, 2010

I'm just starting out with Flash, I'm using ActionScript 2.0, and trying to acomplish something seemingly simple but it is not happening like I would think it should,'m trying to load a large image about 3000x2000 pixels and then mask it with a small square, so that later I can scroll through the image to view it.Here is the code I have so far, it produces a blank white screen.

createEmptyMovieClip("container", getNextHighestDepth());
container.createEmptyMovieClip("fullImage", container.getNextHighestDepth());
//When I replace the above line of code with the line of code bellow the image is displayed

ActionScript 2.0 :: Scriptable Mask - Large Mask Behind The Whole Of Flash Site?

Aug 19, 2003

what i am doing is to make something along the lines of the "scriptable mask" tutorial Inigo was kind enough to put up.My idea is to have a large mask behind the whole of my flash site, this masks a colour image with a black & white one (nothing tricky). The image I am using is actually 5 separate images combined, and each is a pic of certain parts of the site.I also have a very basic set of buttons along the bottom... each corresponding to each section.

All I want is to set it up so that when I mouse over the buttons, the _x of the mask moves to correspond with the correct image... really very basic... or so I thought .If anything it should be easier to do than what is in Inigo's tut (where he uses the _x of the mouse to move the mask)... i just cant seem to get it to work with a nice easing effect (its easy to get the mask to simply snap to each coordinate, but I need it to smoothly move).

Create Own Mask Around A Jpg Image By Drawing Around It On The Mask Layer

Dec 4, 2009

maybe point me towards a better way to mask. png file is way too big. I have been using the mask layer option to create my own mask around a jpg image by drawing around it on the mask layer. There has to be a fetter and faster way to do this. Is it possible to maybe have a specific color range have an alpha value of 0. Similar to green screening whereas If I put the item I want to clip on a green background flash will auto take out the green for me. and by auto I mean action script maybe. I think this can be done but im not finding it.

how are these guys clipping these images [URL] they have the movie clips set up where the black background on the 3 layers of shoes is getting masked out. When I go into the shoe movie clips I see there is a black background but it just disappears when I go back to main timeline.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Flash Tweening A VERY Large Image

Mar 6, 2011

I am working on a project for a client, and our designer has created a very large (7000px wide by about 600px high) image, which is split up into several 'screens'. The image is one long continuous image, so can't really be 'chopped up'. There are left/right arrows on either side of the scene which, when clicked, go to the next screen and play a short animation (basic movieclip fades/movement etc) for that screen.

My problem is that the panning left and right is starting to get a bit jerky - most likely Flash not being able to cope with tweening such a large image. Is there an easy alternative to using tweens in this case? I'm using TweenLite (AS3). I am happy to provide an SFW/FLA, but only in private to an experienced developer, hope thats ok.

Flash :: Loader Won't Load Large Images?

Jun 9, 2011

I have some pretty large PNG images stored in a database (example 1000x15000 px, 4.5MB). I am trying to load this using the Loader class...the problem I am having is when I call load(), nothing happens. No events, no errors.I can take the same image and embed it. As long as as I set the height to less than 8000px it works fine. If I convert the embedded image to a ByteArray and try to load it, nothing happens.

Jquery :: Flash-like Photo Gallery Large Image Animation

Jul 12, 2011

I'm doing photo gallery and like to enlarge an image when I click on it with some animation like it's in flash (the picture slowly expands first by x-axis and after by y-axis and the space around the picture dims), that it scales to it's largest possible size to fit in screen, but it can be any other animation. I found some topics about this, but I don't want to use any 3rd-party plugin (including flash, drupal...) to do it. Maybe it can be somehow done by jQuery...

Actionscript 3.0 :: Flash - Load Multiple Large Images And Video?

Nov 22, 2009

I am creating a Flash site for a client who wants to display many (about 15) fairly hi-res photos as well as a video. I am using the Video class to display and control the video, and the Loader class to load the photos. I preload them from an XML file up front, while "loading..." is displayed.

The video plays immediately after the loader finishes, and the user can also choose to view the slideshow, which has left/right arrows which show each photo with a simple fade tween between each one.

The problem I am having seems to be that when all these assets are loaded, the video and the "fade" effects are very choppy. If I cut down on the number of photos, everything works fine; but I have to include all of them, plus the video.

I am storing all the Loader instances in an array, and when they are requested, I add them to the stage and fade them in. When it finishes fading in I remove the previous one from the stage. So they are all stored in Flash's "memory", but there is only one Loader or Video instance on the stage at any given time. Is there a better way to handle this? Perhaps some way to cache the images but not bog down Flash's memory? I would prefer to have everything loaded up front in order to avoid needing a "loading..." for every slide.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Flash Hick-up/Skipping Large Image Horizontal Scroll?

Dec 22, 2010

I've asked collegues and others, noone seems to have an answer to this.

I'm making a site that uses the Parallax Scroll effect, that is, when mouse moves and the movie scrolls, different layers move with different speeds - making it appear a bit 3-D.

Thing is, the original "world" which I import from Photoshop is very large, more than 9000 pixels wide, I don't know if this actually is the problem, but here it goes:

It skips, or hitches, from time to time. I of course want it to run smoothly.

I've tried several things but nothing seems to work:

Actionscript 3 :: Image Circle Mask Using Adobe Flash

Apr 27, 2011

I am wanting to achieve a particular image effect using Adobe Flash (Actionscript 3). I would like an image (width 200px, height 600px) to appear on the timeline by being revealed by different sized circles (varying from 30px-5px). I am thinking of using an image mask and creating seperate circles across the timeline, so that when the movie plays, each random sized circle, one after one, will reveal the image at the end. So this is probably going to be quite time consuming. Also, does anyone know of any flash image effects helpers in general, I'm looking for something similar like green socks except for image effects...

Flex :: Get Dimension Of Locally Loaded Large Image?

Feb 12, 2010

I'm trying to read the width and height of a locally loaded image. This seems to work for images that do not exceed the dimensions limited by the Flash Player 10 [URL], but as soon as the images are bigger, the width and height remain 0. The strange thing is that now and then, I can read the dimension of these bigger images, but most of the times not. I understand that this might be because of the player limitation, but then I would at least expect the error to be consistent.

I want to check this since there is no use in loading such a big image as it will not be displayed anyway, but it would be good to provide a detailed error message to the user.

Here's the code that I use to load the image locally and read the dimension:

private function chooseImageButton_clickHandler(event:Event):void {
var allowedTypes:String = "*.jpg;*.png";
m_uploadFileReference = new FileReference();
m_uploadFileReference.addEventListener(Event.SELECT,

ActionScript 3.0 :: Optimization On Load Time (Large Images And Sounds)

Jan 27, 2011

I have an all flash website that works by having each portion of it to load and unload in the center of a frame based off the navigation chosen.Load times on everything but one part of my site are ok.The dimensions of the part inside the frame are 968x674.I know that's relatively large for a flash file, but that can't be changed at this point.Within the page there are objects that come up when you find an item on the screen.Its a dialog box and it shows text, an image, and has a voice over that reads what the text says.After you're done looking at it, there is an x-button to dismiss the window.There are 15 of these and they are exported to the actionscript.I add them in the actionscript via addChild.

The other huge thing is there is a ton on the screen.It starts you off in an environment, and when you click 3 different sections, it zooms into that portion allowing you to look for the items you're trying to find.There is also a man that talks and animates in the beginning and at the end.We are planning on taking out the end part and putting a text box up. URL...The two parts of the site we are trying to optimize is the main menu when you first are at the site, and the "Explore" section.(Just click on the cloud on the front page.

Allow Users Of Site To Download Large Volumes Of Image Files From Amazon S3

Jul 27, 2010

My website allows users to upload photographs which I store on Amazon's S3. I store the original upload as well as an optimized image and a thumbnail. I want to allow users to be able to export all of their original versions when their subscription expires. So I am thinking the following problems arise.Could be a large volume of data (possibly around 10GB)How to manage the download process - eg make sure if it gets interrupted where to start from again, how to verify successful download of files.Should this be done with individual files or try and zip the files and download as one file or a series of smaller zipped files.Are there any tools out there that I can use for this? I have seen Fzip which is an Actionscript library for handling zip files. I have an EC2 instance running that handles file uploads so could use this for downloads also - eg copy files to EC2 from S3, Zip them then download them to user via Flash downloader, use Fzip to uncompress the zip folder to user's hard drive.
