I have a file full of text; if this were html, I'd just make an iframe and in the frame, I'd have the text page with "back to top" links throughout. But since this is flash, I'm loading an external text file, and I'd like some "back to the top" links within it. I know how to do a "back to the top" in html, but it doesn't seem to work in a loaded text file in flash. Or is there a better way to present a lot of information in flash?
View 7 RepliesI have created a flash website that looks like this (see below). When you click on any of the menu buttons (home, architecture, etc), the menu bar stays stationary while everything else slides horizontally. The title of the page (black with yellow outer glow) scrolls horizontally as well and stops as you see here to show the next page has "arrived" or loaded. There is no page loading or timeline jumping in Flash. It's all programmed for the menu buttons to trigger the entire site to start moving.
My problem is trying to figure out the best way to show images for the portfolio. Each page will have pics depending on the category, and I am wanting to display them as best as possible. I considered using a Web Gallery made through Bridge, but it makes an HTML file that won't slide like the rest of the site will. I am needing the images to slide as well like the rest. Because of this, the images at some point have to be Movie Clips so the script will move them accordingly.
Is there any way to have the images as MC's, bring them into view, and then somehow make them clickable that starts up LightBox2 or a Bridge-made Web Gallery of those images? Or am I screwed?
Suppose there is a button on stage - on press - I want to [display / start to run] a movie clip present in library (should i place it on stage?) I tried:

I'm kinda noobish when it comes to getting information from XML information sent to my flash file from the socket server. OK so for example the server sends me this:

View 3 RepliesFlash MX (not 2004), Actionscript is pre 2.0 I believe.I have a drop down menu.When I roll over the button, a movie plays (the menu).An invisible button sits around that menu and the button itself, and when rolled over, the movie collapses.My issue was that when I dragged the cursor quickly off of the button, the menu wouldn't close.I got a helpful response from kglad saying to bump my framerate up.I did, and the problem happened less, but was still present.I bumped it all the way up to 120fps and the problem is still present, but the occurance has decreased significantly.So then I got to thinking: Is there a way to have the movie (the drop down menu) timeout and collapse if the pointer isn't present?I've heard of movies timing out if there is no click, but I'm wondering if there's a way to do the same thing when there's no cursor.I guess I could also have the menu collapse if there's no click after a while, but that seems awkward.

When publishing this FLA, the mac finder gives this message "flash is trying to access files on your external HD. Allow?"When I allow it, all goes well. When I don't allow it or when the external HD is not present, flash cannot embed fonts.I do have the proper fonts on my system and in the library. I don't have these font problems with other FLA files.If I copy all the internal frames and library elements into a new clean FLA, the problem still exists...

I would like to be able to see all my files grouped by type, but they are not in alphabetical order, which kind of defeats the purpose. Unless I am missing something shouldn't this be an issue for Adobe to fix?
View 2 RepliesI need to import three pdf text files into my Flash CS4 for use in a project I am trying to complete but every time I try to import these pdf files to the library I get an error which reads "One or more files were not imported because there were problems reading them". I am using Adobe Reader X, which is the latest reader available, Flash CS4 and Windows Vista Home Premium and I cannot understand why I cannot import pdf files to Flash.

View 6 RepliesFor whole damn month I spend writing script for a actionscript application on Flash CS5. I had my Window$ Crashed!! and when I tried opening the flash file, it says "error opening File!". my swf is sized 0 KB, I even bought a decompiler, Trillix Flash Decompiler and tried to decompile the swf, it says swf corrupt. Now all I have is some classes and external swfs. Those thousands of as3 codes inside the fla file and the library objects are all gone.

But, I don't find any solution even in google.I have created a swf file, which when gets executed, gets data from backend database and displays as items in Combo-box. In swf file, if we select an item from Combo-box, collects data from database and gets back to flash and displays them as items in Combo-box. Each item has a specific image(.jpg file)associated,which gets displayed on stage of flash file(.swf file) upon selected from combo-box.
I am calling/invoking the flash file, When I click on a Button/select a tab created within my Java application.But,when the button gets clicked/tab gets selected, Combo-box is visible in flash file, but with no elements when we try to click upon it and the following error is getting displayed in a dialog-box:Title of the error is: An action-script error has occured.[URL]
Is there a way to extract a single file from a zip file in Adobe AIR?
I'm using NoChumps zip library to extract files from a zip. In this library the entire IDataStream is loaded into memory and after that you can extract file entries easily. In cases where the zip is 5 to 10MB there are no problems. But when the zip is 80MB, which many are, 80MB is loaded into memory. This causes the app to crash and run slow on mobile devices. According to the zip specification,
"A ZIP file is identified by the presence of a central directory located at the end of the file, this allows appending of new files. The directory stores a list of the names of the entries (files or directories) stored in the ZIP file, along with other metadata about the entry, and an offset into the ZIP file, pointing to the actual entry data."
Also, I do not have control of the size of zip files but most average is 60 to 100MB. Files inside are ~4MB.
I'm trying to control the behavior of components in my Flash Library using a .as file class, but it doesn't seem to be working.
For example, if I have a Button in my library called exampleBtn and attempt to do this in the .as file:
exampleBtn.visible = false;
... nothing happens. The button is still visible in my application when I run it.
Can anyone explain the workflow to make a Flash library component accessible in a .as class file using Flash CS5?

So, this URL is exactly what I need, but I don't know how to extract all these URLs from the .swf file I have. I don't have any experience with flash, but I think that URLs should be in the .swf file. I tried "grep '110206os_o_003_T1C1_2pw26' adspage_slider-2.swf", but didn't get any result :(((
Is it possible to programmatically extract image files from a SWF file using C#? If so, how would I go about doing that? I know this question doesn't have a lot of detail but I'm just getting started on this and know very little about Flash.

Is there a way of forcing Flash to create an export(jpg or swf)of all the graphics in a library without having to manually drag them onto the stage or into a scene before publishing or exporting them? I'm thinking there might be an SDK or utility or something that can read fla files and export everything programmatically.

When I looked at the source(I don't have the fla) with Sothink SWF Quicker I could export the sound but not the video.
What I did see was that the video was without sound(wierd but true).

View 9 RepliesI am working in two different applications, one to be compiled for desktop use (AIR) and one to be compiled for the web. They are part of the same project and use the same visual components, but they are completely different apps. When a visual component is changed in one application then it should also change in the other one. Is this a good situation to use a shared library fla? I am new to the concept of shared libraries and I am considering the options.
On one had I would not have to update 2 applications everytime I change something, on the other, I would always have to recompile the library folder when I do the smallest changes to a component.
