ActionScript 2.0 :: Better Way To Present A Lot Of Information In Flash?
Jul 9, 2008
I have a file full of text; if this were html, I'd just make an iframe and in the frame, I'd have the text page with "back to top" links throughout. But since this is flash, I'm loading an external text file, and I'd like some "back to the top" links within it. I know how to do a "back to the top" in html, but it doesn't seem to work in a loaded text file in flash. Or is there a better way to present a lot of information in flash?
I am thinking of creating an app which will read the contents i mean the library of the fla/swc file and use it to check whether the items present in that swc/fla is used in as3 project.... can do it manually... but wanna automate it..
I'm kinda noobish when it comes to getting information from XML information sent to my flash file from the socket server. OK so for example the server sends me this:
[Code]...
I want to get the name of the user and the X and Y position! Is there a way I can get this information without a load of fuss from functions and other junk remember im kinda noobish.
I want to build a program built around my pc specs. Is there a way to access such information as how much ram I have or how much cpu usage is being consumed, etc.?
The site I'm making uses a tabbed navigation and MooTools to fade the pages in and out. One of the pages has a Flash player embedded on it, and all of the others consist of pure HTML. The problem occurs on the HTML pages -- somehow the Flash player is causing the HTML pages to display oddly. Vertical borders and text will be jagged in the same locations of the top and bottom of the player.!
what would be a good solution to the following scenario: a page is supposed to have a few flash buttons in it. we want to check if the user's browser supports flash (a given version i suppose) and if not - display gifs or jpgs instead.
Why do I get this error saying parent does not exist when I try to remove a movieclip. In the first case, the movieclip cannot exist either on screen/memory if it was not 'contained' by either a movieclip or stage. How can this happen, can somebody explain how this "movieclip" loses its parent reference to the stage or container mc. The debugger stack shows the value of movieclip.parent as null.
The issue is loading data from an XML file and having it present in a Flash website. Its a 'book review' thing (i've altered the XML and AS3 for posting here, so the XML looks a little like this:
I'm having trouble getting a decent system running for playing multiple independent flv movies in a container clip using the flv component back-to-back. I guess what I'm looking for is tips or examples of creating the video equivalent of a slide show - with options to skip next, previous and go to a specific clip.
Basically, at the heart of it, I'm just setting flvcomponent.play(newcontentpath) via actionscript. But that causes a skip of about 0.5s while flash switches gears and begins the next clip.
Does anyone have any tips on achieving good transitions in actionscript2? More generally and tips on dealing with video via actionscript .
I would like to create an AJAX style pop up to present photos from a flash movie. I found a tutorial, but it didn't work for me. I'm trying to trigger it off the gerURL function of a button, but nothing popups. I have verified that a simple link in <a> from the html page the flash movie is on works fine, so it's just the call from flash itself.
There is a library component represented by Class A. But constructor of this class requires some parameters. When the component needs to be added dynamically, it's fine because of code :
var abc:A = new A(param1,param2)
But what if my movieclip is already present on the stage. I notice it gives out error, that the parameters are null.
Is their any way to insert constructor parameters for movieclips already on stage.
I have a simple html page witha flash button. Upon clicking on the button, I would like to retrieve certain information from the js in the html (a URL for example) and execute it from the flash button.
Which is the best way to present an swf file from html?Is it better to embed the swf file directly into the html page, or is it better to <a href= > it from the html file?
within a few banners that I'm realizing I insert a variable, clickTAG, as a step in the url of the landing page after the click.Because the variable changes, I would like to capture this variable externally to externally store how many times you see a banner and how many times you see another.I like using some language asp, php or javascript to extrapolate outside this value?
In my flash application, I want to have information about the system the flash object is running on.Is there an object which handles this?My application runs in a browser mostly, so I also want to know the browser in which the application is running. Can I also access this directly from within the flash player or do I need to communicate with javascript then?
i want to make flash programs that send information to the web server that cannot be revealed by the user. of course the user will be able to see that HTTP request that is being sent, but i want to encrypt the data before transferring it. what's the best method to achieve that ?
i would build an app to take the serial number of hard disk of an other hardware serial number (hard disk, cpu MB). Do you know if this is possible with adobe air, silverlight or other similar technology?
I am now using FancyUpload to make an upload tool for my website, for the video module, so user can upload their video in FLV format with limited size and time
With the limited size i can handle it, but with the time . I dont know how to know the total length of FLV file
I'm doing some crawling with Python, and would like to be able to identify (however mperfectly) the flash I come across - is it a video, an ad, a game, or whatever.I assume I would have to decompile the swf, which seems doable. But what sort of processing would I do with the decompiled Actionscript to figure out what it's purpose is?
Currently I'm making a Designer (tShirt Designer) application. What it does up till now is let you put simple tekston the front and back (the front resides on frame 1 and back on frame 2), it lets you upload an image scale, rotate and position it.
Now what I'm curious about and don't know anything of is how do I send this information to the responsible company or server or email that print/make these shirts. I though about a simple way of sending it the same as you do a email form, but then it made me realise, how does the company know, how, where and how big the text or image must be.

three nav buttons which add movieclips to the stage using the addChild method bascially each new movieclip should remove the last one present on the stage. My code so far which is not working is the following:-
Flash MX (not 2004), Actionscript is pre 2.0 I believe.I have a drop down menu. When I roll over the button, a movie plays (the menu). An invisible button sits around that menu and the button itself, and when rolled over, the movie collapses. My issue was that when I dragged the cursor quickly off of the button, the menu wouldn't close.I got a helpful response from kglad saying to bump my framerate up.I did, and the problem happened less, but was still present.I bumped it all the way up to 120fps and the problem is still present, but the occurance has decreased significantly. So then I got to thinking: Is there a way to have the movie (the drop down menu) timeout and collapse if the pointer isn't present?I've heard of movies timing out if there is no click, but I'm wondering if there's a way to do the same thing when there's no cursor.I guess I could also have the menu collapse if there's no click after a while, but that seems awkward.
