View 3 RepliesI have a movie that loads images from an external source based on paths contained within an .xml. As far as I can see, there is no restriction to the size of the loaded image, which are are JPEGs, hence flash will not have these images resized. The images look fine when loaded in Photoshop or viewed separately, but the quality is just awful when loaded within the movie.
I've tried the usual hints like increasing JPEG quality in Publish Settings, but understand that since these images are not imporated into Flash CS5 before compiling, but are instead loaded when the .swf is run, these settings would not have any effect.

Is there a way to test to see if a variable is present anywhere in an array of an undetermined length.
I have people selecting things, and I want to make sure they do not select the same thing twice.
I was wondering, after looking into loading external images via xml- how you would control the size of those images on resize and on first loading.
Do you define the size of the container mc?
Can you apply the same or similar onresize code as you would when applying it too images on the stage?
I have an animation about 30 frames long, the dimensions are 500x700 pixels.I want to use swf instead of gif because of better quality. So should I use png's or jpeg's to animate the swf?Which format does flash like better?
View 7 RepliesTrying to load images dynamically from library NOT externally since i want these images to be loaded when the site is launched. Basically i have several buttons, each button returns an event that throws a specific image name to grab. Here is the function;
function sendDisplayData(e:MouseEvent){
display_mc.displayName.text = e.currentTarget.parent.menuItemName.text; //name of image eg. "myImageName" in the library;
//create the image object
[code]....
So how can i make this function dynamic by using a String and then grabbing the image related to that string from the library.
Im just wondering is there a way I can load flv's externally into flash and then move them around like a drag and drop function?
View 4 RepliesI'm making a very simple cross-fading slide show of JPEGs loaded from a folder. I'm loading them into movie clips with:
Code:
holder1_mc.loadMovie("images/home_flash/image1.jpg");
holder2_mc.loadMovie("images/home_flash/image2.jpg");

is there a simulator or a way for Adobe Device Central to read CS5 created iOS published SWF's or ipa's for testing purposes?At the moment, I make a change in Flash CS5, publish the SWF and IPA, delete the old version from my phone, drop the new IPA in, re sync and test. This is not good for the workflow. What are the options for testing and developing?
EDIT:I am on a Windows machine (Windows 7).
I'm pretty new/bad at actionscript (3) for web. I have a site up for a client/friend [URL], but it takes FOREVER to load. I'm under the impression that a good way to make the site load faster is to load in swf's externally. Right now, the site, in its entirety, is one big movieclip. I have large images (movieclips) for background images. If you look at the site and are kind enough to wait for it to load (aprox. 45 seconds or so) you will notice how the background image changes when you click to go to each section.
I am trying to find a way to load in the background as external .swf's to cut down on the initial load time. I'm also open to any other ideas. Below is the as3 code for my buttons/how they direct the site. I'm hoping to use a similar/generic style to load the background images. I'm hoping to load the movieclips underneath the rest of the site, and use the same naming scheme (e.g. homeBTN.swf) to keep it organized.

I'm working on a slideshow using a class that I wrote that builds the slideshow and an XML file that points to the images. I plan on improving it later but for now I just want it to cycle through a set of images, resize them if they're too big or small, and show a loading bar while the image is loading. It works fine if I test it in the Flash IDE or standalone Flash Player, but if I drag the SWF into Firefox or Safari, the loading bar refuses to show up. I also tried publishing to an HTML file and that didn't work either. I figured there could only be two different reasons why it wasn't showing up - either it wasn't being added to the stage, it wasn't being made visible after it's initially set to invisible. I decided to comment out the part of the code that make it invisible to begin with the loading bar showed up, but it wasn't showing how much of the image had been loaded when it changed to a new picture. Here's my code:

For some reason the pictureLoading function isn't being called when I test it in any browser. I've seen the loading bar randomly pop up a few in times in Safari 4 but then I try closing the window and testing it again and I get nothing. Can anyone help me figure this out? About:plugins in Firefox says I have Flash Player 10.0.22 installed, and I'm using Flash CS3 in OS X.
We're devoloping a flash game which have a php and mongodb backend.. It's kinda like FarmVille and other zynga games.How can we make fully load test to cover possible performance issue earlier?

Does anyone know of a good tutorial or solution?[URL]...
I have a series of JPEG's labeled frame1.jpeg, frame2.jpeg, and so on... I want to play them sequentially as a movie. Earlier, I had success loading a single frame, but now I have trouble loading all the frames one by one.[code]...
View 5 Repliesi have a movie that has worked fine in past during Html test but ive been doing some dubugging using the flash test latly and it runs fine here but when i go back and try to test in Html mode no errors come just the movie never fully starts (starts up about as much as if there was an error).
View 5 RepliesI'm new to AS3-What I need to do is load each jpeg in an array into a new Loader, then find the image's dimensions before attempting to load the next one. A Loader makes its info available through the LoaderInfo class. Loader has a property, contentLoaderInfo, that itself is an instance of LoaderInfo. When information about the Loader's requested file become available, it broadcasts Event.INIT. The AS3 language reference gives the following example for handling an Event.INIT event broadcast by a flash.display.Loader's contentLoaderInfo property, which itself is an instance of flash.display.LoaderInfo:[code]The AS3 reference says that neither Loader nor LoaderInfo accept any parameters in their constructor.
View 2 RepliesI am only perfect with basics of AS3 and flash. I need AS3 code or a basic example/tutorial for loading of .jpeg images into flash from database.I had searched through google, but, any of the example won't match. If anyone has their ideas, atleast send me the algorithm for your idea, so that i can try by implementing the
idea. I think, once again when I open this topic, i will be getting my requirement.
Im making an image gallery. I want to load the large jpeg images externally. I wanted thumbnails at the bottom to fade up as the images load up, then when they are ready to be displayed, they are actually fully loaded and ready to be displayed and dont take any more than a couple of frames to become visable, but this is eluding me.
I'm currently using Flash 10.0, and the mx.controls.loader from the flash components to load the images into, which works fine other than getting to it before the images are loaded. An Actionscript 2.0 that creates a loop over a few frames until the external image is loaded then moves on should enable me to get it done, but no luck so far.
I thought this would work:
if (this.getBytesLoaded()>=this.getBytesTotal()) {
gotoAndPlay("the label name on the next frame");
} else {
gotoAndPlay("the label name on the previous frame");
}
but it continues on the timeline even when the external image is not fully loaded yet.
how do i know the size of a jpeg image before i load it into a mc ? the point is that I'd like to make a preload for each dynamic image i load
View 2 RepliesI'm using this actionscript to load a jpeg from a MySql database
Code:
_root.detailfade.detail2.photoContainer.loadMovie(myLv["pic"+(numb)]);
All images loaded are in landscape proportions. I would like to resize the images that are loaded to a set height (the photo might have to be either enlarged or reduced) but maintain the proportions of the picture (i.e the resize the width to keep proportions)
Suppose I want to dyanamically load 10 jpeg thumbnails. I have given them files names "image0.jpg", "image1.jpg", "image2.jpg", image3.jpg" and so on.Now, I might write out the code to do it ten times, like this:
var image0:loader = new Loader ();
image0.load(new URLRequest ("images/image0.jpg);
var image1:loader = new Loader ();
image1.load(new URLRequest ("images/image1.jpg");
But it would be much better if I could write out it out in a loop, and have the actionScript assign names to the variables. I don't know actionscript so well, but I feel I want to have something like this:
var [name+i] :loader = new Loader();
[name+i].load(new URLRequest ("images/"+[name+i]+".jpg");
Now I've just made that code up, but there is some logic in it, which I hope makes my question clearer.
I am trying to load an image into a movieclip and a link for a button from a text file. How would I do this?The text file looks like this:
HTML Code:
&imageURL=http://www.domain.com/images/picture.jpg
&linkURL=http://www.domain.com/link.jpg
With a code like this or something?:
Code:
var photo:LoadVars = new LoadVars();
photo.load("photo_text.txt");
loadMovie("â„‘", carousel.photo.empty);
[code]...
but this didnt work.
Does any one have a idea about how to do a packet loss test like in ping test from flash technologies (Flash or Flex)?
View 1 RepliesI need to be able to load a jpeg/png image from disk and show it in flex and send it to a server as a base64 encoded string. But once the image file is loaded, in my flash.display.LoaderInfo object, the bytes property (type of ByteArray) contains more byte than the file content.

I'm working on a project, and trying to get the Flash CS3 ScrollPane to work.
Ok trying to load some jpegs into a scrollpane dynamically.
I opened a new Flash file, and got it working with the following script:
Code:
this['scrollpane'].contentPath = "empty_mc";
this['scrollpane'].content.attachMovie("content", "inst_content", 1);
this['scrollpane'].content['inst_content'].loadMovie("sax.jpg");

I have come up with a different scenario when am working with videos. I am trying to load a flv externally. And when am compiling the flash file i got this strange error and nothing is loading (ie flv file) Warning: Filter will not render. The DisplayObjects filtered dimensions ([width], [height]) are too large to be drawn.
View 1 RepliesPossible to embed a .swf on other site, then load an external file(.swf, .jpg, etc...) from my own server. hence, i could change the content without doing anything to the embedded .swf
View 1 RepliesFor some reason my slideshow gallery will not work with specific swf files. I can't find any correlation between the ones that work and the ones that don't work - stage size, length, as3 version, actions, ect don't seem to matter.
I'm tempted to chalk to up to a bug in CS4 and try to install CS3, but I was wondering if anyone has ran into this before.
I have a file full of text; if this were html, I'd just make an iframe and in the frame, I'd have the text page with "back to top" links throughout. But since this is flash, I'm loading an external text file, and I'd like some "back to the top" links within it. I know how to do a "back to the top" in html, but it doesn't seem to work in a loaded text file in flash. Or is there a better way to present a lot of information in flash?
