I have a simple html page witha flash button. Upon clicking on the button, I would like to retrieve certain information from the js in the html (a URL for example) and execute it from the flash button.
View 3 RepliesI'm currently writing a feature for an interactive periodic table which dynamically displays the name of the element and other properties when you hover over the element. I have thought of three ways to do this and I am wondering which is the best, memory-wise and speed-wise, for loading this information.
make a class with an array ( new Array("hydrogen", "helium", "lithium",...etc.)), instantiating it, then accessing the info with object.arr[i] make a class with a static array (otherwise, same as no.1), importing it, then accessing the info with class.arr[i] put the information into an external xml file and accessing it from there. The 3rd method seems excessive as you have to go through the hassle of adding event listeners for URLloader every time. Is there any difference between the 1st and 2nd way? (What is happening in terms of memory when you are importing a class - is the entire array added to memory?)
I'm kinda noobish when it comes to getting information from XML information sent to my flash file from the socket server. OK so for example the server sends me this:

View 2 RepliesCurrently I'm making a Designer (tShirt Designer) application. What it does up till now is let you put simple tekston the front and back (the front resides on frame 1 and back on frame 2), it lets you upload an image scale, rotate and position it.
Now what I'm curious about and don't know anything of is how do I send this information to the responsible company or server or email that print/make these shirts. I though about a simple way of sending it the same as you do a email form, but then it made me realise, how does the company know, how, where and how big the text or image must be.

View 3 RepliesI have a file full of text; if this were html, I'd just make an iframe and in the frame, I'd have the text page with "back to top" links throughout. But since this is flash, I'm loading an external text file, and I'd like some "back to the top" links within it. I know how to do a "back to the top" in html, but it doesn't seem to work in a loaded text file in flash. Or is there a better way to present a lot of information in flash?

View 2 RepliesI have a web page with a couple of Flash Input TextFields. When I press a button on my web page, I am using javascript (jQuery) to get all the values from the text fields and checkboxes etc on the page.
In order to get a value out of my Flash TextField, I understand that I have to use the ExternalInterface API. I am using ActionScript 3.0 and Flash CS4.
In the flash IDE, I have a layer with just the textbox instance and another layer 'actions', which has all the actionscript.
As soon as I put: import flash.external.ExternalInterface
in my code, then the textfields full functionality does not seem to work on the webpage.
I assumed what I had to do was something like:

then I thought that perhaps I had to call a javascript function to return the textfields value like so:

I have tried putting the ActionScript 'actions' layer in a package, but it didn't help. I have spend my whole day trying to find a good way to access ID3 tags in AS3.0;In my project I am making a sound object and assigning it a URL: Then I stream the sound into a sound channel:[code]I want to read the ID3 tag somehow and display the artist name or anything in the ID3 tag, onto the screen.I Have the URL change through user input, and naturally I want to update all the information with the new ID3 tags information.[code]
View 9 RepliesI am trying to retrieve some information back from my LMS and into variables in Flash with AS3. I used to be able to do this without any problems in AS2, but can't seem to find a way to make this work in AS3. In AS2, publishing with the "Flash with SCORM 1.2 Tracking" option, I could call a line like the following:
fscommand("LMSGetValue", "cmi.core.student_name,_root.stuname");
This would grab the student name from the LMS and store it in Flash in the variable named stuname.
Any way to do this with AS3? I can set values back to the LMS no problem still through fscommand such as score or completion, I just can't get anything back from the LMS such as student name or lesson location.

I say adverts, there more like a ?what?s on? synopsis of our website on a area specific homepage. We have 22 area homepages that need to display certain adverts.
What I?d like to be able to do is setup an admin system for my boss to use so he can control via the admin system the adverts to be displayed on each area homepage. I?ve seen that you can import database information via text fields on the movie itself but I?d like to be able to set the movies up so they pull the relevant information into the action script (basically referencing which file name to load and in what order.

I've been asked by a client to create a flash rolodex.Basically it will look and act like the rolodex object to hold peoples information. He's seen the pageFlip application which i'm sure your all familiar with and wants it to look like that.

So far I know how to do a search that returns exact matches but I want to make it so if someone typed in say "Manager" it would return results that Also had "Sales Manager" or "Account Manager".
Currently I have

Which only works with exact results. What is the best way to get around this? Do I just need to bring in everything from the XML file and then compare it using .search()?
I need to access information of a sound placed on the timeline of my swf. I can't use as3 to trigger them because it must be synchronized with visual stuff on the timeline. Other reason is that I'd like to diplay a caption text of the sound (stored in some xml files). For this to be possible I need the name and length of the sound on the timeline to show the caption text properly, at the rigth time / duration. I googled if there is a way to access a sound on a timeline and it seems impossible.
