I need to find a way to detect keystrokes when the flash file is not selected and send that information to an .swf file. The file would be stored locally (not on the internet).
View 3 RepliesI'm using AlivePDF in a project, and this is actually the first time I've used it. I've gotten it to work just fine except for when I send the PDF file to a server. The problem is the save() function makes a few assumptions:
1. it assumes I don't need to send any other information along with the PDF file.
2. It assumes I want to pop open another page.
3. It assumes that Flash doesn't need to know what's happened to the file after it was sent.
What I want to do is send the PDF file along with some other data with a URLRequest, and then get the response back from the server, and depending on the response move on. AlivePDF seems to have this "one size fits all" function for sending the PDF to the server. has anyone dealt with this before? Any resources I can look at? I've been all over Google trying to find answers, but I'm kind of at a loss.
I am trying to send some information to a javascript function on the same html page as the swf file is in. I used the tutorial here on Kirupa but for same way it doesnt work.

And I have made a script that sends some variables (that a user inserts in some input forms) with some var names, and then php handles it and insert it into my MySQL database its kinda ugly that a page pops up and opens the php page.So I was wonderin' if there is some way to send the variables to the php file and process them inside the flash file. without openin' some fancy browser window ?

I'm trying to figure out the best way to create a search box that searches an XML document and returns the results. So far I know how to do a search that returns exact matches but I want to make it so if someone typed in say "Manager" it would return results that Also had "Sales Manager" or "Account Manager".
Currently I have

Which only works with exact results. What is the best way to get around this? Do I just need to bring in everything from the XML file and then compare it using .search()?
I have a video in .flv format that I have converted into .swf. And this .swf file, I have added it in into my main flash file by using Loader. And now, I want to detect when this video will finish playing so that I can go to the next frame which is not looping the video again and again.

I have a task to upgrade a web site. I have a map of ND with some cities on it. I needed to add a new city to the SWF which did not seem to be hard (asuming I did it correct). The action on all the buttons for each city look like this except the name after the # is the city selected.

Currently I'm making a Designer (tShirt Designer) application. What it does up till now is let you put simple tekston the front and back (the front resides on frame 1 and back on frame 2), it lets you upload an image scale, rotate and position it.
Now what I'm curious about and don't know anything of is how do I send this information to the responsible company or server or email that print/make these shirts. I though about a simple way of sending it the same as you do a email form, but then it made me realise, how does the company know, how, where and how big the text or image must be.
i'd like to know if its possible to save information obtained from users to files if the user is accessing the flash file from a cd. I would also like to know how it works if possible. And can the flash file be in .exe instead of .swf?

I've developed a neat WindowSWF panel after watching Lee's demonstration video. I got everything I needed to work, but I'm having trouble getting information from my sound files. Basically I have a list of sound objects (.wav format) in my library and I want to find the duration of each file so that I can add them to existing movie clips, then add or remove frames depending on the length of the sound file on the frame. I've been pouring over the jsfl actions libraries and can't find any method to get the duration of a selected sound file.
View 2 RepliesI need to check for file existence in Flash on x number of videos. I've tried LoadVars and MovieClipLoader. LoadVars works but it actually loaded the entire video before reporting its done. Without a way of knowing that its started, I can't delete it before its done. I don't what to load the entire video, i just want to check that its there. MovieClipLoader has onLoadError and onLoadStart, which works because I can unload the MovieClip right after its starts loading and know its there and if there's a load error I know it's not there. Should work, but I need to run that x number of times to check for the other videos.

I'm currently working on a test site for myself as a self-learning piece that will be a CSS laid out site with some Flash elements. Anyway, I'm completely stuck on this current problem..I will be placing a SWF file that will live on each page but will need to do different things based on which page the browser currently is on. It's nothing complex...will probably be something as simple as "on enter frame, if the browser is on this page 'http:www...', then jump to frame '#' ". This is how I'm placing the SWF file through the CSS.[code]
I read that "FlashVars" was the start of how to do this but as you can see in that last line, that's as far as I got on the CSS side. I have ZERO clue how to make the SWF file detect that value or detect the page the browser is on and then do something with AS3. Does this all make sense? I've searched through books and online for a little over 6 hours today and have not been able to figure this part out. Is it a simple line of code I need in the flash file or am I embarking on more than I can handle at this stage?
