Reducing File Size When .JPGs Are Included?

Dec 10, 2009

At my job I frequently have to create Flash banners for major newspaper's websites. The specs that usually come in require a max file size of 30k or so. Usually my art department will hand me 3 or 4 screens that they want to simply move through in a loop. No biggie, until they start adding images to the files.

When I complain to them that the images are making the file sizes too big I am usually queried as to how other advertisers on these sites have full video in their ads. I understand that there are pre-loaders as well as allowed larger file sizes if you pay more for the ads.

getting image sizes down in Flash so that the images don't end up looking horrible?

Professional :: Jvm.ini - Too Low - Can't Run App - Too High - Flash Won't Open

Sep 28, 2011

So I recently switchs to a new computer. Installed flash and got everything up and running. On the old computer, I was forced to set the jvm.ini to use -Xmx512M in order to run the application (it's kinda big) But now, if I set it 512, flash will not open... I get the Java enviroment error.

Now, I lower the xmx value more and more and more until flash FINALLY opens without an error... I load up my application and when I try to run it, I get the java memory heap error and it tells me to adjust the jvm.ini file. Anyone know how I can get flash cs5.5 on a windows 7 64bit machine with 8 gigs of ram to open with a larger jvm.ini value?

Professional :: Make A High Resolution Gif In Flash?

Apr 7, 2011

So I've been surfing the net trying to find a way to get a 100% resolution from Flash to Gif and can't find it.Here is the deal, I've got Adobe CS5 and I started doing animation in photoshop. It took forever but once I got it done it looked awesome and I could easily transfer it into a gif via 'save for web and devices".Because it was taking forever I decided to learn flash and after a day I got the basics pretty much figured out and made my first .swf file. I then went to turn it into a Gif and the resolution sucked and the timing was off.

Media Server :: High Bandwidth Is Used By The FMS 4.5 When Serving A VOD File?

Feb 9, 2012

We noticed that when we are streaming our own VOD file that we had copied to the server, which is an .MP4 file encoded at  1200 kbps using either HDS or RTMP (, which I suppose the server recodes on the fly ) we are getting the incoming stream at the average bitrate of 14 Mbit/s, and it looks like bursts of 25 Mbit every couple of seconds.

However if we try a sample file, such us sampl1_1500kbps.f4v we are getting an average of 1.2 Mbit/s with peaks of 1.5-2 Mbit. The tests are conducted in our company LAN. So what is the reason for this? And is there a way to control/restrict the output bandwidth for our own file without re-encoding? I'm not talking about several streams with different bitrate for the same source aka adaptive bitrate but rather about the single stream bw)

ActionScript 1/2 :: High Score Table Writing A Simple Text File With Flash And PHP

Dec 23, 2010

I am having a problem getting Flash to work with PHP as I need Flash to read and write to a text file on a server to store simple name/score data for a games hi score table. I can read from the text file into Flash easily enough but also need to write to the file when a new high score is reached, so I need to use PHP to do that. I can send the data from flash to the php file via POST but so far it is not working. The PHP file is confirmed as working as I added an echo to the file which displayed a message so I  could check that the server was running PHP - the files were also uploaded to a remote server so I  could test them properly. Flash code is as follows:

//php filewriter
var myLV = new LoadVars();
function sendData() {
//sets up variable 'hsdata' to send to php
myLV.hsdata = myText;
myLV.send("hiscores.php");
}

I believe this sends the variable 'myText' to the php file as a variable called 'hsdata' which I want the php file to write into a text file. The mytext variable is just a long string that has all the scores and names in the hiscore. OK, XML would be better way of doing this but for speed I just want to get basic functionality working, so storing a simple text sting is adequate for now. The PHP code that reads the Flash 'hsdata' variable and writes it to the text file 'scores.txt' follows:

ActionScript 2.0 :: High Score List - Flash Cannot Create A Simple Text File

I don't have php or asp but do have cgi capability. Does anyone know where I can find a simple cgi-script that will allow me to write the text the cgi receives to a simple text file: game.sco I want to be able to write a single long string to it so that I create a string of values and can load it back in using flash loadvariables. I can create the string in flash... but how do I write it to a text file using a cgi script? the text file would include this string...I already know how to read it and split it to parse it into arrays:

Professional :: Flash Player 10.2.159.1 Standalone Application CRASH With High Graphical Processing

Apr 16, 2011

Flash Player  10.2.153.1and  Flash Player  10.2.159.1 are crashing my standalone application. Later with  version 10.1 the application run ok, never crashes but was taking more than  90% CPU. The  new Flash Player solve the problem of resources, and drop down CPU to  30%, but  the application crashes always after a while, unespectly, or if I open the window of other application.

In  the other hand when I disable the harware acceleration at the swf  settings, the application goes crazy and start to make rapid flashes, and frame rate goes down to 8. [URL]. Right click on the Flash logo, Settings,then UNcheck the hardware acceleration in Display Settings.)

I'm  on a Mac Mini Core 2 Duo with Mac OS X 10.6.7 (the last Snow Leopard  these days). The graphical card is Nvidia GeForce 9400M.

I  did test the application at a Mac Book Pro core i5, Mac OS X 10.6.7,   graphica card Nvidia GeForce GT 330M and the application is more  stable but finally crashes too.

Finally if I export my application  with GPU Hardware acceleration at Publish Settings, my application  crashes almost inmediatly after I open it in each of the computers.

My guess is that the new Flash Version is using my graphical proccesor in a corrupted way.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Sharp Images With BitmapData

Dec 12, 2009

I'm scaling down images loaded from as3 and I want them to stay sharp. They are scaled because I have a liquid layout which resizes a "body" movieclip that contains the images (loaded from xml).

I used code from here to scale bitmap, but I don't really understand it. [URL]

My biggest problem is that since the images are loaded as displayObjects rather than bitmaps, I need to know how to change the bitmapData of each displayObject.

Second problem is that I need the code the change the data, but not scale it down also(it is already scaled down). How do I do that?

Here is my attempt...

Code:
//code is executed when image is first loaded (I don't care if it is resized afterwards)
//thumb is the displayObject that is my image

[Code].....
