Professional :: Loading External Swf Then Going To Frame In Root Timeline?
May 10, 2011when a button is clicked, I want an external swf to load and play, then I want to go back to a particular frame in the original timeline.
View 2 Replieswhen a button is clicked, I want an external swf to load and play, then I want to go back to a particular frame in the original timeline.
View 2 RepliesI am building a small banner, which ideally will have a random string of text fade in (long enough to be read), then fade out...to play another random text.
Each of my texts have been built as movie clips... they fade in, stay up long enough to be read, then fade out. At the end of this, I need the movie to go back to frame 1 of the main timeline, as I am using the following script:
Code:
_root.onLoad = function() {
//generate a random number from 1 to 11
var nRandom = 1+Math.floor(Math.random()*12);
//tell timeline to goto and play the random number 'nRandom'
gotoAndPlay(nRandom);
};
Each of my text movie clips are on a different frame, so I need to call a new random _root frame to play from within the movie clips. So far, all that is happening is whichever movie is chosen to play, goes in a loop.
How do you tell the root timeline to root.gotoAndStop(2); from the timeline of a movieClip added using addChild?In the maintime line I have
addChild(fade_eng);
and in fade_eng I have the following on frame 20
root.gotoAndStop(2);
this.gotoAndStop(1);
But I am getting 1061: Call to a possibly undefined method gotoAndStop through a reference with static type flash.display:Stage.
I am using Flash CS4 and Actionscript 2.0, and I want to be able to run a certain command for a time I am making only on certain frames...

This doesn't work. The reason I am trying to do this, is because every time I complete a level the timer is still going at the 'congratulations screen' and then when I go to level 2 the timer would start up again, and the seconds would go twice as fast.
Im trying to tell my movie to goto and stop on anoter frame on my root timeline and then play a movie clip on the new frame... This is probs really simple but it is early.

I have been searching on how to do this but I haven't found anything that I can use yet. I have a flash template that has about 6 different flash files. There is a menu on the right side that allows you to call the other files like this.

I've been going through online tutorials and so forthand yea I'm still a newb. I have a flash site I'm designing and this is probably a simple answer. I've figured out how to incorporate the external flashes using buttons and loader, please see the script below. The main problem I am having is I want to load my 1.swf file as the main home page. When I load the flash is comes up empty instead of loading the swf file when the flash is first opened. I can use the button to load it back, but how do you get it to appear once the flash is initailly loaded instead of just pulling up a blank page?
Code:
on (release) {
//load Movie Behavior
if(this.home == Number(this.home)){

How do I make it so that the movie clip animations play when I'm editing the root timeline?
View 3 RepliesI am in the learning process. Working with FlashCS5 and AS3. if the issue appears to be too simple for you. Placed a movieclip(mcassessJohn) on the main timeline and moved to the frame labelled "johnFeedback" in the movieclip timeline using the following actionscript code.

I have an application swf that loads a big external swf with all GUI components/assets (skin) in it.I want to display a progress bar during loading of the external asset swf file but the images for the progress bar are also included in the external swf file.Is it possible to load only a portion of the external swf before loading the rest. The idea is to load the progress bar images from the external swf, then construct the progress bar and than load the rest of the swf. I was thinking to put it on different frames. Frame 1 containing the progress bar graphics and frame 2 the rest of the assets.
View 3 RepliesAn external swf file (swfEx), which contains a button, is loaded into another swf file(swfLd). When clicking the button contained in swfEx, it should navigate to a certain frame of the main timeline of the swfLd movie and at the same time remove swfEx from swfLd.
View 2 RepliesI have an external swf (is is an intro, nade in aftereffects)..and it loads in the main timeline of the site with a preloader. Everything is ok, but, when the intro in done plating. It stops and I want do see de site. I mean from the last frame of the external swf, I want to jump to the second frame of the main timeline.
Here is the script:
stop();
var req:URLRequest = new URLRequest("intro.swf");
var loader:Loader = new Loader();
function fileLoaded(event:Event):void{
addChild(loader);

How do I link a button thats embedded in frame 2 (music page timeline) to a frame in the main timeline ( frame 3= biography page)? Both pages are on the same scene with link buttons embedded in each page independent timeline.
View 1 RepliesI have a button that when pressed goes to the next frame of a external swf file loaded into a movie clip. When the last frame of the external swf is reached, I want the button to go to the next frame of the main timeline (which in turn loads another external swf and the process repeats itself over again).
I assume I have to use an if/then statement, but what exactly is the if clause?
Not sure if I'm in the right place, I apologize in advance if so. I'm somewhat proficient with html, but fairly new to flash, using cs4pro, as3. Here's my dilemma. Converting an existing html/css site to flash. Flash is main site now but a few html pages are still linked, a buy page and a form page, a few others. I can get the all the external html pages to link to a frame in the flash movie, and I can get the flash to link with all external urls.
My problem comes when I move to a frame outside the main timeline. The movie is lets say 393 frames. All symbols/content are on seperate layers, and so is the action. Once the full movie ends, I have several frames past that where I have basically created frames for additional "pages" and created anchors for those frames, new layes for content, new layers for anchor (labeled) and new layers for a stop(); on each frame, I extended the pertinant graphic frames out to 410 from the original movie.
Now when the movies runs the buttons appear at about frame 115, so in the action layer I coded a keyframe and then added frames of it out to frame 410 or so: I have attached the .fla Now I'm lost here. When you navigate the site, from home lets say to an external link (button) like members, the html member page opens, and if you click home button, back to flash frame, and all works, all buttons, on the home frame 393. But if you go to any of the external htmls, and then go back to any other frame like frame 401 the about page, and all the rest 402 403, etc, the page appears properly, but then none of the links function. the site URL is [URL]there is a flash intro too, swf in question is actually at[URL]
I need to determine when the first swf has finished to load the second and so goes on but I couldnt find a way to even trace de current frame in the timeline of my external swf.How can i determine the current frame in the timeline of a external swf?even with a enter frame event to check the current frame has not workedIve even build up a class to give the parameters to the main SWF but has not worked.I need to compare the current frame with the total frame and when got the last frame, and the end of the animation, unload this first movie and load the second.

I have an external swf "advert_3.swf" loading into the main index.swf.
advert_3.swf has two buttons: one needs to go to "services" frame the other to "events" within a content_mc which is in the index.swf.
that is in the index.swf:
ActionScript Code:
var request:URLRequest = new URLRequest("advert_3.swf");
var loader:Loader = new Loader();
loader.x = 35;

I have created a online portfolio that loads in External swfs. Everything works fine on its own but once the external swf is loaded into the containing swf I lose control of the external swfs timeline. Is this a bug or is there just something I am forgetting
[Code]..
So when I click the send button it sends the message, but does not go to the next frame. It works on its own but won't work once loaded into another swf.
somehow I switched the setting for selecting some frame in the timeline. I was used to click once and have one frame selected. Now it selects the whole time of a keyframe when I click on it not just the frame I clicked on.
how I can set it back how it was?
I'm loading an external swf into an empty mc called "emptyMC" on my main timeline. That loaded swf loads another swf into an empty mc called "view2" when a button is pressed. Code:
on (release) {
loadMovie("tabletennis.swf", "_root.emptyMC.view2");
}
The above code isn't working right. I'm not sure how to target each empty MC in sequence in order for this to work.
I'm loading an interactive external SWF into my main timeline. The SWF is a game and when it's completed successfully it plays an animation on the _root timeline. I'm aware that the external SWF _root action is now referring to the the main timeline, but I'm not sure how to make it refer to it's own.
View 1 RepliesI just don't know how to target it. I'm trying to load an external swf, when releasing a button. The problem is the button is not on the main timeline, but instead nested in a movie clip. I just don't know how to target that button. I tried loading the swf with a button on my main timeline and it worked, so I know the problem is not with the movie clip loader class or the actual swf itself. I actually learned this from a note midway down the page in one of your tutorials..... [URL] how can i target that button that is nested in that movie clip?

So I am working on a portfolio site for a friend. She has a few photo galleries. Each one on it's own frame with an empty movieclip that loads an external .swf gallery (has pre-loader bar). There's three Sections so I have three buttons with _root.gotoAndStop("framelablehere"); behaviors on each frame.
What happens is if the external .swf file is loading and you decide to click to another section while the .swf has not finished loading my whole timeline freaks out and plays threw all the frames in my main movie. So it goes threw every section of the entire site! I have multiple stop();'s threw out my main movie. Basically one for each frame in my main movie plus more in the external .swf's.
You can check it out here [URL]- Just go to Projects>Photography and once you see the movie loading click to another section and watch the spasming begine~
I'm using Fl for the first time and I'm trying to create a slideshow. Everything was going fine until I realized I had spaced out the different image timelines too far to the right. Now that I've moved them all leftward I have these blank ends that make the slideshow end with a long empty nothing. How do I cut those timelines off to eliminate that dead time?
View 3 Repliesi have one button (enter_btn) inside of one moviclip(enter_mc), and I need to know how to call the button through my frame root?
I use one movieclip only to make a fade in of my button in only one frame of my frame root.

I have a series of MCs in my root timeline. On each frame in the root, I am simply running 'stop();' to allow the MC within the frame to play through all the way. Once the timeline within the MC reaches the last frame, I have the following AS to go back to the root and play the next frame (each frame is labelled):
[Code]....
In AS2 I need code for a button, on the main timeline, to go to a frame in a mc off the main time line. I have attached a picture of the time lines in case I have not articulated my needs well.
View 5 RepliesI've got a .fla with different buttons. when I klick them different loaders loads ext swfs.
Code:
var myloader4:Loader;
this.revista.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, movie4Click);
function movie4Click(event:MouseEvent):void {
gotoAndStop("white");
var myrequest:URLRequest=new URLRequest("rec.swf");
myloader4 = new Loader();
myloader4.load(myrequest);
stage.addChild(myloader4);
Underneath the loaders on the label "white" I have to buttons, next and prev. I want to, when I press them, to go to the next frame of the loaded swf. I've got 6 diff ones. (myloader1-myloader6).
I have two flash files, say a.swf and b.swf.a.swf is the main swf file, embedded in an HTML page for a webpage. There is a preloader in a.swf too. In b.swf, when I click a specific button I need to load a.swf, but not from the preloader, from the content. To be precise, the content starts from Frame 24 of a.swf (obviously Preloader ends in Frame 23). I believe, the frame 24 has to be loaded in a.swf when I click the button in b.swf.
View 2 RepliesI am loading external file swf at frame 30 (as one of my pages). When I click button at example 50 or 61 (another pages) how do I remove the loader. I've got lots of errors.
