What I want to know is if it is possible to record a sound clip using a microphone and then upload it to the server using a swf applet in a webpage. Im an experienced java/javascript programmer but just starting out with flash/action script. What technologies will I need to do this? Can I do this simply using simply an swf file and an apache/php or jsp page?

My solution is built using .NET.Most similar apps that I've seen use Flash on the client and presumably Flash Media Server on the server. We don't have the kind of budget for FMS. View 3 RepliesI'm setting up an application where I need to record users' voice every so often during the course of the users' interaction with the application. Recording is fine, and the quality is fine, but now my issue is understandng how Flash handles the microphone when it gets attached to a stream for publishing.Basically, the problem is that when I "publish" my stream, the voice gets cut off (clipped) at the beginning. So, I initially thought this may have to do with buffer settings on the FMS server side, but it wasn't. Then I investigated client side stuff. For some reason, my internal mic .activityLevel property is -1 even though I have called Microphone.getMicrophone(). According to Flash's documentation, this shouldn't be the case:

I want to capture audio samples from the microphone in my adobe AIR application and then save them to an flv file. I have the following code:

The problem is that I suspect that in my handler I am only getting raw samples and not compressed samples. The reason for my suspicion is that the number of bytes I get per message is equal to 20 ms (which my definition is 1 speex frame) of raw audio and not compressed audio. Also the number of bytes doesnt change if I change the encodeQuality. Reading the documentation suggests that adobe will only compress the audio before transmission to a flash media server or another peer. Is there a way to publish and read the stream locally in order to get compressed samples. ? Or any other way to get the compressed samples?

View 2 RepliesI am unable to uploade the file "expressInstall.swf" generated by Flash CS4 AS2.0. DreamWeaver displays the following error message:
"Scripts:expressInstall.swf - error occurred - An FTP error occurred - cannot put expressInstall.swf. Access denied. The file may not exist, or there could be a permission problem."
I am working on a mac but my question is what files do I need to export out of CS5 to include in my upload besides the index SWF and index html? Do I have to export each individual page? Each individual photo? each individual button, ect? Or is there a main folder I can export and up load to my server. Also for all the photos I have put into the project, do I need to upload them as a seperate folder, if so, is there a specific name I should label it so it registers?

View 1 RepliesI have bought Learning AS 3.0 (O'Reilly) but I have been having difficulty getting one of the tutorials to run. The tutorial shows how to record data from a microphone to a byte array, playback the saved data and save as a WAV file. For some reason, I can't get this working. When the swf runs, the Flash Settings screen doesn't pop up to request permission to access the microphone but I can still trace properties such as gain.

View 8 RepliesI develop failover fms application with server-side action script. But i have a problem that FMS can't continue to record stream with record mode "append".
Environment: FMS 4.5.1 r484 on CentOS 5.5/6.0
Goals:
I have 2 same data streams in failover application and republish primary to livepkgr application.
I have to store of last 10 hours intact recorded video (DVR).
Failover app logic:
1. I create NetConnection and NetStream to livepackager;
2. When primary stream is connected it attach the primary stream to livePackager NetStream
3. If primary stream is disconnected it reattach the backup stream to livePackager NetStream
Problem: I have testing environment. It stop primary stream every 5 min, and started primary stream 5 min after stopping.
It work's, fine, but after a few hours testing LIVEPACKAGER falls. It can't record a stream, NetStream.Record.Start -> NetStream.Record.NoAccess -> NetStream.Record.Stop
Search a solution: I try to relaunch recording process and have no success. try to shutdown/start livepackager, it's same, try to restart server, same no success.
I cant stream.clear() or record with mode "record" cause it clears my dvr cache, I cant clean stream directory in livepackager application.

I am doing a simple project for school, and I had to develop a website off of a premade template, the URL is [URL]. If you go to the about page there is supposed to be a video in the TV that plays, when I use the FTP server to upload the swf and index.html file, where am I supposed to put my video file so flash finds it and it plays? also having the same problem on the portfolio page with my pictures not being there. When I click the small icons on the left, the larger picture is supposed to show up in the right picture frame.
